When my wife bought me a BMW 325i as a present, I was happy, but a part of me became sad. I knew that BMW repairs are expensive and we had had terrible luck in the past when dealing with import mechanics. Problem is that BMW has special diagnostic gear, so most mechanics can only do simple work on them. I had dealt with a few other import mechanics and they were horrible.
I met a German Army Officer who told me about Autobahn and Martin (the owner). He recommended the place to me, I had nothing to lose, and here was a German who was recommending a mechanic to work on a BMW. I was sold.
His shop is near Hampton University and it isn’t much to look at. I had to make an appointment due to the amount of business they had. A man named Buddy works the desk and seems to run the place. Their prices are fair and they have fixed every weird gripe that I have had on my 325i. After dealing with overpriced import places, I would recommend Autobahn. I was also impressed with some of the used cars he had. For those guys that like supped up Volkswagens, he had a bunch of them, along with the Mercedes and BMWs in the lot. You just have to overlook and get past how the building and some of the interior looks.

A very nice independent European auto sales and service company, run by a great German expatriate who was trained in auto repair in Germany before his arrival in the US, and who has been successfully practicing his trade in Hampton for maybe 20 years. I first met Martin when he was still running his repair-​only business out of his house, and at that time he concentrated exclusively on Mercedes Benz. Over the years the business has grown, and now is housed in a very nice showroom and repair facility on Pembroke Ave. He now has a a thriving resale business (primarily German cars), and continues in his repair business that now includes working on Mercedes and other German vehicles, as well as a few other higher-​end European brands.
As the business has grown, Martin has resisted handing over the day-​to-​day activities of the company to hired employees, especially in regards to his service and repair work. For the service customer, this means that a very competent technical set of eyes and hands will examine your vehicle, and help diagnose and repair the problem, no matter how small. Although I now live too far away from his shop to be a steady customer, it’s been a real treat to watch this very talented and pleasant young man grow his business over the years. Success couldn’t have come to a more deserving fellow.
