Thyme & Season

The prepared food and soups here are truly delicious, well executed, and they keep a fairly wide variety of dishes throughout the week. I tried foods, especially vegetarian and vegan, that I normally would find to be too bland or boring and somehow they still taste amazing here. I think all their effort in back really pays off. I wonder who their ace is in the kitchen who develops their recipes — they ought to open a restaurant as well. The groceries they carry are quality although the variety is limited. I don’t think lesser variety of goods is a problem as long as they are carefully sourced for quality and value, which I believe they are here. Too many options in this country is what makes people crazy. The only reason I can’t give it 5 stars is because the prices are noticeably higher than other stores for the groceries and supplements. Due to their size and inability to get greater bulk purchase discounts I’m sure it’s what they are forced to sell it for — and not just because they want to make more money. Overall I’d say this place is worth the visit and probably the healthiest most reliable place to get food in a 10 mile radius.

We took our first shopping trip to T&S based on a tip on the Beyond Meat web site listing it as stocking more of their products than any other store in the area.
We were impressed with most of the store and most of the prices; shocked at how high the vitamin & supplement prices were and disappointed there was no seating for their fresh hot food offerings similar to the Guilford market.
All in all we were pleased and VERY happy to find a store less than 20 minutes away that stocks about 85% of what we need to supply a vegetarian and dominantly organic lifestyle. We couldn’t shop at the similar store in Middletown with out winning the Lottery and Thyme & Season is very doable. We are looking forward to shopping there a couple times a month.

My boyfriend and I stopped into this place while we were road tripping and needing some healthy car snacks. Great selection with reasonable prices, we easily found what we were looking for. Their deli has lots of vegan options, including vegan cheeses and pastries, and portion sizes are generous. The only funny thing is that if you eat in the dining area the otherwise tranquil atmosphere will occasionally be interrupted by the sound of their extremely loud smoothie grinder. We didn’t try their smoothies bu hopefully they are worth the disruption!

This is a nice go to organic store, of course you pay for what is there. They offer various herbs, spices, teas, and organic items that you just can’t find anywhere else locally. Overall the staff is friendly, the store is clean, and the variety is there. The only downside is the rt 10 and small parking– it is a fight to just get out of the lot and onto rt 10– and forget about heading toward Cheshire– you will never leave. LOL

Of course I’m grateful to have a health store in this area. I have not yet been to Foodworks, so if better, I will make the extra drive as I don’t love this place. The vegetable soup bloated me last week. Idk why. And, when I’m thinking ahead, I prefer to stop at Whole Foods en route to Hamden. This store has such an old vibe and not in a cool hippie retro way. Old as in stale and outdated.
What I am giving 1 star for is the way they push bags on you for one item. You are a natural store for Heaven’s sake — set a precedent. In Santa Monica, they now charge the customer to take a bag. Be different here. You don’t need to charge but how about encourage people not to take one.

Such a disappointing experience tonight. To be fair I did show up at closing. I get it, you want to leave. But why not tell me as I walk in that you are closing momentarily? That would have been kinder than coming over to me announcing the time. I did not see any times listed on the front door. I’m not saying the hours aren’t posted, just that I didn’t see them. And really isn’t that the point of having hours posted? Your customers need to see them. What store closes at 7:30pm? That seems so random. As I went to pay for my two items, I was informed that «customers need to use the baskets provided.» I always carry my own shopping bag and if I’m just grabbing a few things, I just put my items in the bag and take them to the checkout. I have never been told that before by anyone and I’ve used my bag hundreds of times at many different stores. It just seemed so rude and unnecessary. Maybe that is their policy, but it was pretty clear that she was thinking about shoplifting. I paid for my two items and left, vowing never to return.

I’m used to natural foods stores that are generally much larger, with much bigger produce sections. So I had to adjust my expectations a little when we drove up.
It’s a *tiny* store, but surprisingly packed with many interesting whole food and small producer made items.
The apples and juices we scooped up here went into preserves for family and friends small Christmas gifts. I was happy to find pretty much everything I needed.
(As an aside, we couldn’t find ground cardamom anywhere around here! I’d love to know who stocks it!)

Here a couple times a week, T&S is consistent and convenient. Have always found the staff friendly, courteous, and helpful. The supplement department is exceptional, Linda is a treasure. Decent bulk section. Good at special orders. Its a small space but they do a good job with it.

The store is rather expensive even for a health food store. The variety is pretty good even though a pretty small store. We bought some 3 bean feta salad and no carb bread. The salad had no seasoning and was pretty bland and gave bought better flavored ones from a regular grocery store. The no carb bread was horrible. It tasted like cardboard and did not even toast well. I have had no carb bread before and although the texture is definitely different from regular bread it had done flavor and this was not even consumable and vista $ 9.99. Definitely not a place I
am going back to but I am just visiting the area so not likely anyway.

A pretty decent place for Organic food.
Prices are just as high as other organic supermarkets so you really cannot complain about that.
I personally feel that a lot of the stuff that is carried here can be found in a Stop and Shop in their organic section, but I saw a ton of stuff that also was not carried anywhere else that I have been.
Staff put me off a bit. One of the workers was running around in a get out of my way fashion whereas the ladies in the back and at the register were extremely friendly.
They put out free samples, but no one is watching them so I didn’t even bother to try one.
I hear their soup is to die for, but unfortunately I didn’t feel like dying so I will have to take a rain check on that one.
Parking lot is huge, but it is a disaster to get in and out of.
If you live in the area, it is very convenient to stop by.
I would definitely come back here to stock up on my organic fix, but it is not worth the weekly trip.

Dark chocolate caramel pecan turtles in the candy display by the cash register are the best ever.

Cute little market that is close to me, I just wish it was a bit bigger with more stock because they are always missing that one item I need.
Fantastic selection of produce that you will not find at other stores (I saw persimmons the other day for example) and a large selection of soy cheeses and dairy alternatives which helps me out a lot!
They always have a daily soup as many have mentioned and the wraps are fantastic I love grabbing a hummus wrap because of all the veggies they put in there it is actually filling.
If you are looking for any natural supplements this is for sure the place to go, I would say 25% of the store is a long aisle dedicated to them.
I tend to find something cool and new tucked away every time I am here and even though the prices are high it is well worth it.

I love this store. All if the food is all fresh and organic. The prices are reasonable and I have yet to buy anything that I did not like. They have a decent selection of prepared hot foods, salads and wraps as well.
The store also has an impressive variety of dairy products to chose from. One of my favorite things there is the BBQ tofu, it is absolutely amazing!
If you are in the area this store is definitely a place you have to visit I promise that you won’t be disappointed. I also game to mention the huge selection of beverages and homemade chocolates are beyond impressive.

Food haven for those with food allergies or Celiac Disease on a gluten free diet. I found products here that I haven’t seen in years or simple don’t exist in NYC for prices I was willing to pay, but are very reasonable at Thyme & Season. Excellent frozen section and baking mixes. Stocked better than Whole Foods for dry goods. Poor fruit and veg selection. These folks can order anything for you that you’ve been hunting for. Amazing find!

Review in full: Ok, I am going to be honest. I am writing this review about Thyme & Season’s soup (see the following paragraph) but given that this is a grocery store and not a soup shop, there are some formalities to get through here. Thyme & Season is akin to whole foods. They’ve got your free-​range this and your gluten-​free that. They’ve got more granola bars then you can possibly hope to shake a stick at. If this is your thing then you have found your holy land in Hamden. I, on the other hand, am a morally depraved omnivore with the diet of a billy goat. I don’t care how my food spent its time on this Earth or what chemical they’ve marinated it in, if it tastes good I am A-​OK. To this end, I usually try to avoid places like Thyme & Season. The moral mark-​up just isn’t worth it for me.
So how did I find myself reviewing this morally-​conscious grocery store? The siren song of soup, my friends. Thyme & Season offers daily hot lunch and soup specials. It is here where they really get things right. I will step over my own mother to get a cup of their senagalese chicken peanut soup. It is that good. Seriously, stalk their web page and look for a day when it is being offered. Get in your car and plunk down the $ 5 for a cup and thank me after you have devoured it. The remaining options are none too shabby either. Creamy french onion soup, chicken jambalaya, and the mulligatawny all hold their own. The point is that they mix it up here and they all hit the mark. With winter coming up this is an option that you should not overlook.

I get a kick out of Whole Foods type store, but this is scaled down and small.
Organic Marshmallows, dried seaweed chips, cocoa popcorn, vitamin waters galore, and ice cream that is 150 calories for the entire container? Sign me up.
Some items can get pretty pricey, so you might need to be a bargain hunter there.
Great selection of serve yourself dried fruits, grains and nuts too.

So recently after a lot of thought I came vegetarian. I stopped in here and this place makes this new lifestyle a very easy decision. Today I tried the vegan nuggets w/​spicy ginger sauce. Amazing. If you eat meats they have a great section for fresh farm feed animals. After research what is put into the food we eat this establishment provides the natural and health quality of food

Very lousy quality of produce and bulk foods. The romaine was so old and wilted, unfit for human or animal. Looks like they strip off the outside rotten leaves and wait for someone to buy the remains-​awful. All of the produce is priced very high and looks over-​ripe, bordering on rotten. I bought a container of salted sunflower seeds, that I had to return as they were rancid. No dates on any of the bulk items, be careful. My elderly mom was the one who had to eat the rancid seeds and had a tough time ridding the rotten taste from her mouth. The staff is snarky and will fight you over a return.

Great natural foods market with a great selection of foods and products. The perfect place to stop in for a quick take out vegan or vegeterian lunch, or to grab a few local organic ingredients for dinner.

Has some good health food stuff here. I was able to find Fish Oil pills, and some other supplements. Much more expensive than ordering on Amazon but hey they have stuff that you can take home with you today!
