My husband and I moved here from NY lived here for 7 months. We decided on this complex because of the «home buyers clause» they have in their lease and knew we wouldn’t e there long. Thank god for that. The apartment was «broom clean» however things like the stove and tub were less to be desired. The tub clogged and the stove was disgusting with grease, not to mention the stove didn’t even work. There were only 2 settings, EXTRA HIGH, burning our food, or very low, not cooking it. That being said, we knew it was temporary. During our time, we went from Oct. to February WITHOUT heat, calling management several times with no response. In the summer the apt was infested with bugs, again calling maintenance with no response, and there was a hugs hole in our ceiling which one day let a little visitor (a squirrel) in the apartment with animal control having to come at 1AM. Upon leaving, we paid all the fees that were required, and even paid BACK money they said we owed since we didn’t stay the whole year. When we finally got our deposit back, they took out «cleaning fees». We left that apartment not only «broom clean» which is standard for apartments, but since I had to SCRUB the sticky crap off the floor when I first moved it, it was cleaner then when we arrived. My opinion, take your money else where. There are plenty of complexes in the area that I would take a change on over this disgusting excuse for an apartment.

Unbearable noise, insecure and poor quality upkeep and indifferent maintenance. To start, the noise is ridiculous. Old and poor construction makes for terrible noise: I can hear every footfall of the people upstairs! The squeak of many footsteps is so loud it makes my cat jump. The property manager implied that noise is not a big problem here, since this building is all one-​bedroom apartments, so there should be few children, which are often the most uncontrollable noisemakers (I have grown kids; I don’t mind regular kid noise). The people downstairs have a little boy and girl and two yappy dogs (in a one bedroom!). I think they babysit because I sometimes hear babies crying intermittently. The children frequently scream in delight or misery, I’m not sure which sometimes. I never see any adults, ever. Kids play in the parking lot and in the dumpster alley behind the building. Dogs bark hysterically all the time, often into wee hours like midnight, 1, 2 or 3 AM. When I complained to the front desk/​building manager regarding the noise, she said they recommend we speak to the neighbors directly. I knocked on the neighbor’s door and no one answers; I can hear the children play-​screaming and the dogs barking through the door. I did not want to escalate matters by calling the police.
Maintenance requests are ignored. After I requested a security-​related repair several times and received no response, I went to the office in person, where I was directed (yet again) to call the maintenance «hotline» because the front desk does not handle repairs (so I guess nobody does). The message-​only hotline phone never yields a response.
The interior of the apartment is clean; the common areas such as the hallway are not. They stink of urine (from diaper trash left in hallway) or cooking odors. Amenities? The pool is overrun with unsupervised children of many ages; I guess older (young) teens are watching the smaller ones. I did not want to be the only adult present so I don’t use it. The basement laundry room is overpriced (it’s obviously a big money maker for the complex); the machines damage my clothes and the room (as does the entire basement hallway) stinks of mold and mildew. The people who remain in this property long-​term do not have the resources to move (disabled, older and alone) or they consider this place an improvement over their previous living arrangement, which gives you an idea of the community in the building. I’m here for grad school and don’t want to move now for cost and convenience, but I will get out of here as soon as my lease is up in a year, if I can stand it. I might just leave mid-​year and lose my $ 1000 deposit. Live elsewhere!

The worst part of living at Sermonte Apts is to deal with the maintenance. They are slow to respond. We had our microwave handle broken, and called the maintenance to fix it. They actually never showed up. The microwave handle was already very loose before we moved in. After we moved out, we were charged $ 294 from our security deposit. When we call the maintenance (the guy called Edwin) to ask them clarify the charge, they never return our call.
The other problem with the apts is that the A/​C pretty much does not work. They claim the A/​C to be new. So, we had the A/​C always on but the rooms were still pretty cold in winter and hot in summer. And we had to pay a lot of money for electricity.

Had problems with this place from the start. Move in day they didn’t even have the right amount of keys made. We then moved in in 90 degree heat with no ac because it was broken. The sliding blinds broke, the ones by the deck door were off the track, one of the closet doors was broken, a shower curtain fell on my roommate during a shower, there was no power in the outlets in the newly renovated bathroom and THEN we find out when the cable people came to install our Internet and cable that the wires didn’t run to our place! By the time that was fixed and we got it installed we’d been out Internet and cable for at least two weeks. We are recent college grads and missed out applying to important jobs because our Internet didn’t work. On top of those we were unhappy with other aspects of the place too. We had a meeting with the property manager about our complaints and he was very nice and understanding as he’s always been and gave us free pool passes for a guest for each of us. Which was nice. The pool here is nice. But now that we’re in our SECOND heat wave of the summer we have broken AC. Again. And it’s been this way for days now. Nothing like not being able to move or cook or do anything in your apartment cuz it’s 95 degrees and you’re on a top floor! The maintenance people office staff and property manager are great. But for a partially renovated new apartment, we shouldn’t be having problems like this. We’ve leased before and we called our maintenance department only three times in a year when we tripled that with issues at this place in the matter of like a week and a half. Do yourself a favor and rent somewhere else. If you must rent in this area there’s like six other complexes on the same road. But after the issues or had with this place, I don’t even have an ounce of consideration of staying here after my lease ends or recommending to a friend. It got two stars because of the nice staff and the nice pool as well as the nice looking appearance of the place. But functionality? Down right terrible.
