Pillar Point RV Park

Our experience at this RV park was great. The hostess is really nice and very helpful. It was nice to be pretty much on the beach, with easy access to the water, and short walk to the harbor area, shops, and great restaurants. We will definitely come back.

I stayed at Pillar Point in Half Moon Bay for two weeks in my truck camper while taking a class in Menlo Park during the summer of 2015. if you want a location close to the Silicon Valley area, there are not many choices other than HMB, and since the campground at the State Beach was booked up, this was my second choice. The drive over the hill took me about 25 – 30 minutes each way to/​from HMB each day.
As far as private, paved RV campgrounds go, this place is nice. I will probably come back again if I can’t get a spot at the Sate Beach (I don’t really need hookups and generally prefer public campgrounds with more space and better scenery).
Positives:
— nice location right on the beach and not too far from HMB proper
— very accommodating and friendly on-​site camp hosts
— easy 10-​minute walk or 3-​minute bike ride to local restaurants and shops down the beach
— decent space in each spot (as far as private, paved RV campgrounds go)
— seems clean and well kept
— first come/​first served only — both a positive and negative I guess :-)
Negatives:
— seemed a bit pricey, but then I am used to public campgrounds and hardly ever stay in these types of places; location, location, location…

We’ve been to this location many times and everytime we come here we were rudely greeted by the camp host. I don’t know what her name was and the problem but she has no sense of customer service .
There were 3 sites available when we pulled up. The hostess told me 2 of the 3 were too small for our trailer, that’s fine but the 3^rd she’s waiting for a guy to show up. This is a FCFS park! It was completely unfair for us that she saved a site for someone else.
So we waited outside of the park for a site to become available as other campers were packing up. At this point we have waiting nearly 2hrs for a spot. Everytime we come back to check she would rudely tells us that our site is not available.
The bad part is she does not answer her phone. And the live feed on the website does not give the available sites for certain size RV unit.
We changed our plan after all.
PS. You will have a nice time there but stay out of site of the hostess.

Beautiful surrounds, great location, but the advertised wifi is atrocious (with a relatively cheap easy fix… why don’t they??). One gets used to the traffic sounds, but depending on your sensitivity, the fog horn might drive you nuts… and, of course, don’t count on wifi during any sleepless hours.

Great location, very helpful camp hosts. I do wish they would turn off or down the
outside TV. It seems to get louder at night when everything else quiets down. Woke
me up in middle of night then kept me awake for hours! I have no trouble with the
fog horn. Even the traffic noise doesn’t bother me. But the constant loud talking on the
TV that nobody is watching… seems so unnecessary.

Beacon from the point is a drag go’s off every 6 seconds 24 hours a day and it’s a piercing sound, heavy traffic, no HD on their cable hook up. Great views clean $ 78.00 for ocean view.

It was nice… 3 years ago when it wasn’t so snobby. The new dog policy is ridiculous. We’ve brought out Rottweilers here for years and now the new owners aren’t allowing it. So we drove from Sacramento to here and need a family member to come get her. SO DUMB. and people are so rude and snobby about our dogs walking on grass near there camp. Really people? Never again here.

We arrived on September 1, 2015 to September 13^th, and like most new RVers, had trouble with parking and hooking up to water. The park hosts, Terry and Patsy, along with their spouses, Ken and Mark, came to our rescue and fixed the water hook up. Terry and Patsy are excellent hosts and guides to back in your RV like a pro. We immediately became friends and my husband and I could not thank them enough for making sure we had the best vacation at Pillar Point RV Park. We love this park with the ocean view, excellent restaurants, and bountiful wild life. The scenery drives along the Cabrillo Hwy towards Santa Cruz are fabulous. Thank you again Terry, Patsy, Ken, and Mark for your gracious friendship. We love you guys! Can’t wait for our next visit

If you can get past the traffic and don’t mind the fog horn this is the place!!! We came in on a Sat and stayed till Monday. The park is location location location. Super clean and super friendly.

can’t stand the loud fog horn at night and the hwy behind us. The lady was disgustingly rude. We were disgusted and my family were insulted.

We had a wonderful stay here. Yes its just a parking lot with hookups but its location, location, location. Also Terry the manager could not have been more welcoming or helpful. The park was quiet and dog friendly. Bring a bicycle. The bike path right in front of the park is not to be missed. The marina to the north, beautiful beaches and cottages to the south. You can buy fresh fish off the boats in the marina. Pillar point has eight restaurants in walking distance to choose from. Like having a beach house for a few days. I had no idea Half Moon Bay is so pretty and fun.
One bad thing — the fog horn drove us crazy at night, even with a fan and ear plugs. It was not that loud but fog horns are a piercing sound for a reason. The fog horn sounds every ten seconds, 24 hours a day. The Hwy 1 traffic noise did not bother us — in fact the reverse. At night with little traffic the fog horn was much more noticeable. Bring a white noise machine, bring ear plugs and enjoy the view and your special stay at Pillar Point.

I know the RV camp is great, but the website is terrible, I was trying to find out how the rates were, and the website made you sign in, I did the email and password thing, and that didn’t work, then the help thing didn’t work, all I wanted to know how much does it cost to stay there. The rates should be easy to get. Having to sign into a place just that is crazy. Well I guess I wont be going because I can not find out how much a site will cost. Very sad.

Pillar point RV park is a great experience… The camp hosts are awesome… Very friendly and accommodating and the neighbors are great too! Such a friendly place and everyone is a dog lover! We brought our English bulldog puppy and he couldn’t have gotten more love than he did here. We have stayed here 3 times and it is so perfectly located… Close (walking distance) to fabulous restaurants, great shops And a wonderful seafood shop. The spaces are a tad bit tight (we have a 34 ft road warrior and we fit but thank God the RV behind us left before we had to try getting out) but seriously no complaints at all about this little slice of weekend heaven. And the scenery and the beach cannot be beat! Love this place.

The view from our site is fabulous. First come first serve. My suggestion, get here on a Monday or Tuesday to get ocean view site. Close to restaurants and of course the beach. Highway 1 is right behind you but who cares when your front yard looks like this:

Last weekend 5−30−14 we had an opportunity to tryout the RV park at Pillar point and really enjoyed Pillar Park in Half moon bay, Clean, Close to home and Close to restaurants. The other RV ers were respectful of our privacy and Friendly saying Hi as they pass by, nice walking areas by the water and several stores close by. We would recommend This RV Park and we will go back in the future.

Location was great, joined my family for the weekend, walking distance to lots of cool places. Kids found a starfish, baby crabs & saw a school of dolphins swim by! Other people saw whales, sad we missed it! The only negative is the direct beach in front is polluted with oil from the boats at the harbor– water is brown & signs warn of touching that water, so you have to walk to another section if you want to play in water– which is NOT close by any means if you need to walk back for a bathroom break. It’s a cool place and very popular for fishing, no bathrooms though– just your rv & parking lot. Very pet friendly!

one of my favorite RV parks… reviews state small spaces and noisy neighbors… not our experience at all. Ample room in our spot for a 35 foot RV bus AND my Subaru Impreza hatch back (although a free parking spot was also included in the cost of the spot). Hookups and an ocean view all within in walking distance from multiple locations and easily bikable to anywhere you want to visit in HMB… this place is amazing. The hosts were attentive but not overbearing at all… super relaxed. The price is premium, but so is the experience, and when you consider electricity, water and cable/​dumping included as well as a car spot, it’s only $ 25 or so more expensive then the state park which doesn’t offer the same location and amenities. The only downside is the no reservation policy… check out is at 12 noon so show up around 11 – 12 and scope out the good spots!
No camp fires… bring a portable fire pit, also no picnic tables… bring your own table/​chairs and camp chairs… as well as bikes!
Bring a crab pot and some old bay… bring a small portable cooler and walk down to the pier and buy crab when in season for $ 5/​pound…

My parents have stayed at many RV parks, and I’ve visited them at almost all of them, and Pillar Point seems to be their home.
The Camp hosts here are as nice as can be and have quickly become like a family to my parents. I don’t think they are ever going to leave!
This park is located RIGHT on the ocean and offers a view that you cannot get anywhere else. Gorgeous sunsets, majestic waves, and beautiful fishing boats are just a few things you will see right from your site.
Half Moon Bay is also a fantastic location. You may feel as though you are «In the middle of no where» but in fact you are just a short drive or bart ride to SF!
