Nice stuff in here but extremely rude owner. Assumes we can’t afford anything and turns her nose up at customers, or glares at them incessantly as she follows you around the store. No thank you go find another line of work. Sign at the door says come on in but the atmosphere is anything but welcoming. Maybe they should change the sign to say bugger off?

This is my favorite place for buying art lighting and glass! It is such a treat to go into this beautiful gallery. It is definitely worth the trip to Half Moon Bay. The owners are very nice to me, always! The gallery is very small, contains many breakable things, and is sparkling clean. It is not a place to bring kids nor pets.

This store has unique and beautiful pieces. I’ve been in the store many times and have found the owners to be talented and wonderful people. I don’t know of another store like this!

I hate this shop. The old lady seems to hate me for no reason. Stupid little witch. Every time i see her there very bad vibes. The store looks great though. Ive always wanted to go in and check it out. Unfortunately she scares people away. She yells at people if there kids go in or they start touching her product. Yes I understand stuff could brake in there but she is nobody to tell people what to do.

I continue shopping here for the most eclectic and beautiful gift items I have seen anywhere… I just purchased a beautiful multi-colored glass clock with pendulum and am absolutely over the moon with it. The paintings on the copper that the owner paints are great pieces. I have one now but am wanting another one along with his beautiful lamps that he creates… you have to see them to believe just how amazing they are so I thank you for your service and wanting you to know how much I enjoy shopping at Light & Art on Main Street in Half Moon Bay. I look forward to doing my Christmas shopping with you!

This shop owner is the reason I won’t venture into the shop. Although the items look gorgeous from the window, going inside is another story. The negative vibe is felt when this woman is around. I overheard a customer who was looking at a clock and asking, «Who is the artist?» and she responded, «What’s the difference!» The first and only time I went in and mentioned to the owner that I was thinking about one of her items and she said, «If you want it — you buy it», rudely. She’s needs a therapist more than she can ever know.

I loved my experience buying a piece of art from Light & Art. Working with the owner and the artist both was a real treat and a memory I will always cherish. I came in with my BFF, and we were enthralled with all of the beautiful art. My eye was captured by a piece that was oil on wood that was of the ocean. It was stunning, emotional and breath taking. I kept trying to look at other things, but my head kept turning back to look at it. I ended up buying it and had it shipped to my home at a reasonable cost. It was promised to arrive in 7 days and arrived in 5. It was packed very carefully and well, protected from any water damage or bumps during shipment. Everyone that has seen the piece in person or via photograph is in love with it and understands why it captivates me. The owner gave me a small gift before I had decided on my purchase as a token of friendship since she was quite friendly and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. I was celebrating my birthday, and she wanted to give me a gift. I was deeply touched. It wasn’t a sales gimmick or anything else. She was completely genuine. She also offered us some chocolates! The artist came in while we were there, and it was a delight to meet him. They allowed me to take their picture to remember them. The artist was really touched by the tears I was shedding from the joy I had over the beauty of the piece I chose and how wonderful it is. I would highly recommend checking out Light & Art. They have works made in copper and glass, along with paintings, jewelry, night lights made with stained glass, and much more.

While the items look lovely in the store, the shop owner should take a step back and think about how she speaks to potential customers. She rudely accused me of taking pictures of some of the pieces in the store when I was simply texting my husband letting him know where I was as we both were doing some shopping along Main Street. I walked out immediately. I plan to never walk into this store again.

This is a wonderful store with exquisite merchandise. The owner is an incredibly sweet woman if you treat her and her store with even the tiniest bit of kindness and consideration, and her pieces are second to none. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences here. I can’t recommend this store enough!

I have visited this store three times, actually two, the last time(this last Saturday) I was brushed off by the owner as she stood in front of her door blocking the door. I asked if she was closed and was told«I’m out here». I assumed this was her way of saying she was on break. Her products are beautiful but her attitude is so off putting that I struggle to give her my business. In reading the other reviews I would guess that there is some level of profiling going on. Being elderly or Prussian(as one reviewer stated) is NO excuse for being rude, if you don’t want customers don’t 1. Have a retail store. 2. Locate that store in a highly trafficked tourist town. I will continue to visit the store because I am drawn to the works. I have never taken a child into the store and am a very polite person. I have worked in retail before for many years and no one is deserving of poor attitude where the only action is to walk into the store. I suggest everyone take a look at her items, some are incredible but just be forewarned of her demeanor. Reviewers should not be rude, crass or wish hurtful things on anyone. The owner has her way, I disagree with it but I wish her the best and hopefully her family might be able to smooth out some of the rough spots.

My wife and I love shopping at Light and Art. We feel very lucky to have found a new friend in the owner/shopkeeper. She always helps us find just the right item either for a gift or for ourselves. Her stock is gorgeous, the store is artfully arranged with hard to find items, and our treatment makes us feel very special. For all of these people with the negative reviews… maybe a look in the mirror or thoughtful self-reflection about your child’s or your own behaviors would be in order.

Don’t shop here! The mean lady everyone is referring to yelled at my 3 yr old for picking a tiny flower outside of her store! She made her cry. She should not be allowed to run a store in Half Moon Bay. I really hope no one shops here who has kids especially. DON’T SHOPHEREPLEASE!!!

Beautiful art work. Rude sales lady! I understand we are not to touch the items, but I picked up a night light to see if I wanted to purchase it. She then immeditately bickered at me not to pick it up and the price of $ 45. Horrible customer service. So rude.

We thought it was just us. My husband and I stopped in to look at the beautiful items we could see through the window. From the moment we walked in we felt like we were being sized up. The woman did say hello but seemed very rude after that. My husband asked about a certain vase. Her comment was«are you an artist? Are you trying to imitate this?». He told her he was not. Asked about another piece and she asked if he was a glass blower or something. Felt like she couldn’t wait for us to leave. We were interested in some pieces but her rudeness drove us away. Be sure to check out the other shops in same section. Wonderful handcrafted wooden furniture and art pieces a few doors down. Spent our money there instead.

I wish there was ZERO stars. This woman was unbelieveable. NEVER has such a nasty experience. I thought we were being Punked! Didn’t even get to see their wares as we could not wait to get outta there! I thought she hated Asians, but evidently she hates humankind. But GO just for the experience. It’s almost entertaining… heh

Beautiful stuff. Okay, so the German woman isn’t super friendly but she has been kind to us. When we got married, we bought some small gifts here for our wedding party, didn’t spend much. When I paid for them and told her what they were for she had a huge smile. She then gave me a pendant free of charge which I still treasure today. We’ve bought some great gifts here and my husband bought me the most beautiful vase here. Gruff on the outside, pussycat on the inside.

Nasty old woman that runs this joint is off-the-hook, certifiably c-r-a-z-y! I visit HMB3 – 4 times a year, and have tried to shop in this store twice in the course of the past three years. The first time I thought maybe she was just having a bad day or ran out of meds between paydays. Most recently, I was with my partner and two friends — and we’re all professional, clean, nicely-dressed, responsible adults who enjoy buying nice things. I warned my friends that my first time attempting to shop there was about as enjoyable as a colonoscopy. As we opened the door, the old nutcase bolted up from her little perch, ran toward the door, and literally screamed«NO, NO, NO! WE’RECLOSED! I AMONBREAK! NO, NO, NO!» WTF?! It was 2:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday. I said«Your sign says open and the door is unlocked.. . » She just kept screaming, «NO, NO, NO!» After shooing us away and shutting the door behind us, I thought I’d give the pathetic old hag a hand. I gave her time to sit back down on her perch, walked back into the store and turned the«Open» sign around to «Closed,» this time ignoring her shrieking«NO, NO, NO!» Just trying to help out. Really.

The cranky old lady is simply Prussian. Thats silly. I love the woman and as a customer, not a tourist, she treats me and other like customers very well… and we return! She knows all the artists she sells and ihas passion for the art. True, capable of disdain. But I have many pieces in my home along with much art. Lastly her store is a destination for day trip tourist on Main Street Half Moon Bay.

The stuff in this store is absolutely beautiful. Glass sculptures that catch the light perfectly are all throughout the little showroom. There are signs that say something like«look with your eyes not with your hands» or something like that, but to be honest, I can’t blame them. It might come across as snooty to some, but really, think about it from the owner’s perspective. This stuff is all one-of-a-kind, not mass-produced(it’s art for chrissakes) so if you go fondling it(or worse, let your gross clumsy kid touch it), it’s gonna get all smeary or sticky or broken. We asked the woman in the showroom to pick up a couple pieces to show us up close and she was perfectly polite about it. She did watch us like a hawk when we first came in, but llightened up when she saw we were gonna play by the rules. That’s all you gotta do! Definitely check it out of you get a chance, even if you do just window shop, because this stuff is gorgeous. And the prices seemed reasonable to me as well, which is unusual where art is concerned.

Very stuck up owners, looked us up and down as soon as we walked in and whispered to eachother while staring. The stuff inside is pretty tacky.
