John C Moon, DDS

Dr. Moon has been my dentist for the entire time he’s been practicing in Half Moon Bay, so I have a lot of experience with him over the many years. I feel very lucky to have his level of professional expertise available locally. He’s done many procedures for me and all have worked to make my teeth and mouth healthy and happy. He claims to know my teeth with «one hand tied behind my back and a blinder on» and I believe him because he can clean my difficult teeth in a hurry and make them bright and shiny; I have problems with recession but in spite of the extra care involved, Dr. Moon does a wonderful job cleaning my teeth. Also, and this is a biggie, Dr. Moon does many procedures himself without referrals elsewhere, including root canal, which tells you something about his level of expertise. The office staff is also very helpful – my wife and I have had dental «emergencies» and staff have worked hard to get us in. I can’t recommend Dr. Moon and his office highly enough.

This Man and his staff saved my life!!! Had just moved back to HMB and did not have a doctor yet’ let alone a dentist. Was driving my daughter to school while eating a piece of toast (if you can belleve it) and my tooth exploded in my mouth! Needless to say it was the worst pain I had ever been in. Blinding pain. I have gone through child birth and even tatoo’s but this specific pain put that stuff to shame. I continued to drive (not sure how) while holding my head able to see only with one eye in tears just trying to get my kid to Cunha. I knew I had seen a dental office across the street and was praying they’d be open. I kicked my kid out of the car, parked as quickly as I could and ran crying my eyes out holding my face into the office. I was in so much pain I could barely even talk. At first I think I stunned everyone a little because I was out of my mind feeling like I was literally dying, but they took me in immediately. There were no questions. They got me in a chair and in came Dr. Moon. I had an abcess tooth and probably needed a root canal. He said he couldn’t help at that very instant but would get me in that afternoon to take care of it. In the mean time he numbed me beyond belef just so that I could handle myself until then. The man was my savior. NO JOKE!!! He was wonderful his staff was wonderful. Especially Nancy the lady in charge. They are kind caring folk. From that day forth Dr. Moon has been our dentist. My children and even my husband who never goes to see the dentist like Dr. Moon. He is a great dentist but also just a nice guy. I would recommend him to any and all people. Give him a try.

Great example of having an energetic doctor John C Moon whom is funny and has a great sense of humor and also performed good dental work to my mouth. This doctor is a must see and schedule appts to as well.

Dr. Moon is my new hero. Confronted with extraordinary tooth pain like something from a scene in Marathon Man, I rushed to appointments with dentists and specialists in San Francisco and over the hill in Redwood City. Everyone was nice, knowledgeable, with strong credentials, and thorough. I’m certain I would have received excellent care from any of them, eventually. But the course they advocated was uncertain and their availability was limited. I kept hearing a voice in my head saying «Is it safe? Is it safe?!» Further I had a feeling that whatever they did was gonna also involve a serious extraction from my wallet.
Luck would have it that I then stumbled on Dr. Moon’s positive reviews on Unilocal.I figured what the heck, give a local boy a shot, get another opinion first. Plus I needed a new regular dentist anyway since I’m new to the area. This wasn’t just a good decision, it was a GREAT decision.
Dr. Moon was available on my schedule and was immediately compassionate and attentive to my pain. He reviewed the possible treatments the other doctors considered but then just called it like he saw it: Skip all the specialist work and just extract the tooth in question, in his opinion this outcome was probably inevitable anyway. I said okay, and then, as he was examining my mouth, I asked him when he was going to be able to do it. He laughed and said «What do you think I’ve been doing?» It was so painless and quick I didn’t even realize he was already done!
Turns out he was exactly right — once we had the tooth in hand it was clear it was cracked in a way that would have rendered all of the surgeries the others wanted to try worthless — or worse. I would have just had to have the tooth pulled six months later anyway. His candor and expertise saved me a ton of time, money, and anguish.
His fees were quite reasonable and the women that helped him with the procedure and with admin stuff were also A+. The whole experience could not have gone better. He even called me on the phone the next day just to see how I was doing. I have since been back for a scheduled follow-​up exam and a dental cleaning. I can’t believe I’m writing this but I’m actually looking forward to my next dental appointment next year, Dr. Moon and his team are such a pleasure. I have total confidence in the quality of care here.
I gather many people here go over the hill to get dental work, but residents over there are less likely to come here to the coast. That sure is a win for me! Immediate attention from an awesome doctor and such a happy environment. I’m so very glad to have found my new dentist. Shhh don’t tell any of the lemmings over there to come down to the coast, it’s a secret!

Ok… So, like most people, I HATE having to go to the dentist… BUT. I have to say, Dr. Moon makes me a lot less apprehensive about going. He’s caring and descriptive about what’s happening and makes things happen if you’re in need of a particular procedure. Thanks, doc!

I love Dr. Moon! I drive an hour and a half to see him because he makes the experience as quick an painless as possible. Plus, he remembers things I’ve told him about myself and my life. Truly a family dentist.

Ten years later, I still come from SF to see Dr. Moon!
By far the best dentist I’ve been to. Excellent service, super nice, and extremely helpful.
Looking forward to another ten years!
