Johannes Knueppel, DDS

I have been coming to Dr. Olsens practice since he opened this office, and last year started using Dr. Knueppel as well. I have ALWAYS appreciated Dr. Olsens gentle way, and Dr. Knueppel mimics that to a Tee! He is very informative, friendly, and most important (at least for me) gentle! I HATE shots, especially in my mouth, but he as with Dr. Olsen makes it tolerable. I am always in great hands here, and as the new Dentist here, I highly recommend Dr. Knueppel. He really cares about his patients! Either dentist will take excellent care of you, and will work hard to keep your mouth in the best shape possible! A++++ I will never go anywhere else for dental care!

So far I’ve come in for two routine check ups and also purchased an at home teeth whitening kit.
There’s a high level of professionalism and integrity from start to finish.
I started going to Dr. Knueppel’s office last year after not going to the dentist… well, let’s put it this way, so long, I’m not even going to mention it in my review (no cavities though! SCORE! flossing does truly work wonders!!). My dental hygiene is totally shameful, I really have no excuse for not going in for routine cleanings. Even when I told them at this office, I cringed, but I see that Dr. K was unphased and was ready to do work. He rolled up his sleeves and got to work and spent quite a good portion of time reviewing my teeth, gums, and tongue. He and his staff also explained a lot stuff so that I knew what was going on and worked in a timely manner.
I also had a positive experience w/​Dr. Olson as Dr. K was OOO to go on a trip to Africa (I think) to do some dental missions work which is pretty stinking awesome. Speaking of awesome, Dr. Olson is pretty awesome. He is not intimidating and super nice, he even kind of reminds me of one of my favorite elementary school teachers… haha
My experience w/​getting my custom trays for teeth whitening has also been very informative and great. At first I wasn’t so sure b/​c I read so many horror stories of people being in so much pain after whitening their teeth, but I was properly fitted and trained w/​my at home kit, it actually has worked out quite well for me, and they gave me a good amount of whitening solution to last me for a few years and the refills are also available for order at the office in case I needed more, for a very reasonable price.
And they’re on Facebook too! That’s how I found out that they had this deal on the at home teeth whitening kits. If you plan on coming here, it definitely doesn’t hurt to follow them on Facebook and find out the latest goings on there. They participate in food drives, little drawings for free movie tickets, invitation for a free flower on valentine’s day, etc. It’s really quite adorable! Who thought your local dentist office would give so much back to the community?
Although the office building is quite «old school» it’s totally charming like you’re in a cottage in the swiss alps. They even have a light fixture in one of their rooms that look like the sky so you can just stare away while they work. They also have a keurig machine if you need a cup of coffee before or after your visit.
Actually come to mention it, there was this one time I rushed over to downtown San Mateo, got a quick bite, and headed to the dentist, and then i realized, I had a ton of chicken between my teeth. NOT TO WORRY! They happened to have floss, mouthwash, and those one use toothbrushes that already have toothpaste on them and all you need to do is add water! PHEW…
Lastly, these guys are «with it» not only are they on Facebook, their website is nice and updated, very informative, and they have an electronic appointment notification system! This means that you can either go «old school» and just pencil your next appointment 6 months from now, on to your calendar and they’ll call to remind you, OR you can request email/​text message alerts for your next appointment. I don’t know about you, but I’m much better w/​the latter. I was never any good at managing a hard calendar. ever.
And the cherry on top for me is that they’re walking distance from my office, and steps from downtown San Mateo, so for me, personally, location doesn’t get any better than that!
Class act! highly recommended if you’re in the market for a new dentist in the san mateo area…

I brought my two children to Dr. Knueppel. They are 2 and 4 and both had a great experience.
I originally went in because my 2-​yr old was complaining that his teeth were hurting him. Dr. Knueppel was great with him even though he was squirming all around and not cooperating well.
Both my kids needed exams so I made appointments to take them back for full check-​ups. When my son went back for his cleaning, he did great and actually asked me today if he could go back to see the dentist.
My daughter needed to have 2 cavities filled (yikes!) and Dr. Knueppel did them both. He and his assistant were great with her, talking with her to distract her and working super fast. They had her in and out in record time. We did the fillings in two different appointments so that it wouldn’t be too much for her. Even after the first filling, she was fine to go back a second time. I was nervous that she wouldn’t want to, but she was actually excited to go back and sit in the big chair, and to pick a toy when she was finished.
We had a great experience and I’m grateful to have found a dentist that could do pediatric work on my children!

I have seen Dr. Olson for a couple decades and recently had work done by his associate Dr. Knueppel. My experience was great and he was painless just like Dr. Olson. Dr. Olson is known for painless injections and Dr. Knueppel was just as painless. He explains what he is doing and what to expect. I appreciated his gentle manner and clinical expertise. Dr. Knueppel takes his time and pays attention to detail. He is meticulous, takings pride in doing quality dentistry. My mouth feels great and I would gladly have work done by him again. I enjoy a friendly conversation as it helps you enjoy your dental visit, and Dr. Knueppel delivers.

I have been seeing Dr. Olson for many years and now he has a fantastic associate Dr. Knueppel. He is just as gentle as Dr. Olson and just as caring. I was having pain and he spent a lot of time trying to figure out exactly what was wrong. When he did, he did a crown and the pain was gone. He also did some fillings and made them perfect. He is a perfectionist. I couldn’t be more happy with him. I am grateful that he so much time with me and really cared. The whole office staff is pleasant and it is a great place to go to if you want quality work and exceptional care.

In my mind Dr. Knueppel is the best! Kind, thoughtful, meticulous, are all words I would use to describe him. Its obvious from the way he talks through his work that he knows what he is doing and wants each patient to get the best possible treatment.
Part of what I want my dentist to do is to educate me. I would consider this one of Dr. Knueppel’s strengths. I think one of his goals is for his patients to understand how they can take care of themselves and I really appreciate the way he answers questions and explains the work he is doing. I think this really sets him apart from other dentists who rush through their patients. For this reason I trust him and highly recommend him.

Dr. Knueppel is a great dentist! I didn’t go to the dentist for a little while due to negative experiences in the past, but Dr. Knueppel made the experience wonderful (can you have a «wonderful» experience at the dentist? I suppose so!). He has a very warm and friendly presence and takes the time to get to know his patients. He’s highly skilled and I’ve always felt well taken care of.
I especially appreciate how much effort he goes into when explaining the need for a procedure. He understands that some in the dentistry world take advantage of patients, suggesting procedures that really aren’t necessary. Therefore, he goes above and beyond to make sure his patients understand what is needed and why. If a procedure can wait or increased dental hygiene can take care of it, he won’t recommend doing the work and will suggest waiting to see if it heals over time. If the procedure is needed, he takes the time to fully explain what it is and why it’s needed. Because of that, I have full confidence if and when he recommends a procedure. I value that kind of integrity incredibly highly.
I expect to stay with Dr. Knueppel as long as he has a practice — even though it means making the trek from Sunnyvale — it’s 100% worth it! I highly recommend him!

After a string of bad dentist experiences, Dr. Knueppel is probably one of the most trusted dentists I’ve found in years – finally. I agree with Jimmy’s comment that Dr. Knueppel is really skilled with his dental work, and I actually feel like I can talk with him in a genuine way. Sadly, I’ve moved out of state, so his office is no longer a short drive from my house. But happily, I still fly back to San Francisco to have my dental work done by him :). (It’s worth it!) I highly recommend him!
