Great location, horrible room. All the furniture were incredibly out-​dated, and the bed felt like a wooden box. There were lots of stains and holes in the sheets/​blankets (it’s cleaned, but it feels really gross). We booked the hotel thinking it was the nice updated room in the photos on the website, but it ended up being the old, out-​dated room. It’s pretty misleading. They should just renovate all the rooms if they already fixed most of them.

Don’t stay at this dirty hole bad service .some one rip off one of my Nikon lens took it out of my bag. I went out to eat. if you stay you will pay more then once. it NOT a save spot to stay the ice maker was next to my room number 6 some one was putting ice in some thing big this went on all night must had a lot of fish? or Beer? NEVER STAY AT THIS SPOT IF YOU DO YOU ARE OUT $$$$$

My stay with my boyfriend at this hotel was the worst experience I have ever had! Just horrible. I cannot begin to tell you just how bad from beginning to end this was. I would never return, and would discourage anybody and everybody to avoid this hotel!! customer service was beyond horrible. If I could remove the one star I would.

Horrible place and I would suggest you go to Comfort INN on Highway one or the other local hotels! IF YOU can afford? go to Oceano or the Beach HOUSE!

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night and were highly disappointed.
First, the walls are paper thin and you can hear conversations, thumping, and all activities of other guests around you. Secondly, we were rudely awakened by construction starting at 8am below us (hammering, drilling, vacuuming, and loud conversations). They seem to care more about their projects than their guests’ peace, comfort, and serenity. We called in and told them to stop, but nothing ever changed. I barely got a full night of rest here.
The room was ok– a lot of old fixtures and amenities. It did appear a little dirty on the walls and carpet. The bed was comfy, but I didn’t get much sleep in it.
This hotel has a lot of potential to be nice, due to the location; however, it’s really a waste of space and your time.

Nice room, comfortable bed, good-​looking carpet, and charming walls/​décor. The room was overpowered with «fresh air scent», but that’s forgivable and solvable with some aeration. What irks me about the place was the WAFER THIN WALLS and how I could hear every television hum, cough, and word of the telephone conversation of my neighbor who was not really being particularly loud. Usually I’d drown out that ambient noise with the air conditioner, but it didn’t even run. How can a hotel know about this and not fix it? I’m not sure how this detail got skipped over during renovations/​modernizations.
Here are the 3 things ANY hotel needs and must not compromise on:
1. Insulated walls and windows (for a quiet stay)
2. Comfortable bed (and pillows)
3. Working hot water (with adequate water pressure)
If a hotel cannot provide all three of these things, it’s simply not a good hotel. Being reasonable, I didn’t mind the intermittent fog horn outside on the ocean. It was actually comforting and relaxing. The sound of my neighbor coughing and talking on the phone? Not comforting! Not relaxing!
No matter how much I really wanted to like this place, it’s a HOTEL FAIL because it failed the big 3. Dang. Smiled when I walked in, now I am frowning at it. I got a great rate, but the fact is I can get better rates at Motel 6 and have a more peaceful night’s rest. I’m not fussy in terms of amenities; everything beyond a bed, towels, a table and a chair is lagniappe to me. The beauty of the wallpaper in the place doesn’t make me sleep well. Décor is a nice touch, but it’s largely irrelevant.
The other review about the manager with the full voicemail hanging up on someone is very concerning. I didn’t run into any problems during my stay, but I would advise choosing establishments that resolve issues with their guests in an appropriate way. The management always has the opportunity to reach out to guests on Unilocal afterwards to make good on it. When they just have nothing to say, it effectively validates the issue, and it means that the place does not truly care about guest satisfaction on more than a surface level.
2 stars. They can make this 5 stars, but they need to add insulation to the walls.

I had the nicest night stay at harbor Inn. Clean, quiet and great modern facilities! Check out the shower it’s amazing.

I rented this room and was pretty disappointed by the location. I meant to stay at a hotel right on the water; I believe it’s called Ocean Colony Inn. I checked in and then noticed that I could not change the thermostat. They only offer this little, cheap heater. (This hotel is also next to a busy highway and the room is just old and really out of style in its look so I’d really only stay here if it’s a last resort and everywhere else is booked up.)
I took the blame, cut my losses, and left the hotel that night. I checked out around 7. I was only there a couple of hours and most of them was spent on the beach and getting food. It bothered me that I was charged for a room that I didn’t even stay in, so I talked to the manager.
The manager herself is a nightmare to deal with. I talked to the manager Marina, asking for a refund. I told her that I’ve been trying to contact someone for days, and she said, «well I know you don’t care, but I turned the phones off.» (Weirdly enough, I would care about that, because I was trying to get in touch with someone.) And her voicemail was full too, which she wasn’t even phased by. She told me it was «well into the evening» when I left, though I had only been in the room a couple of hours.
She is rude and speaks over you when you’re trying to talk and explain. I wasn’t trying to be confrontational and told her that, trying to alleviate her aggressive and rude tone and she responded with, «Well then why’d you call?!» and then she definitely told me that it was «far too late» to get a refund. This is when I told her it was because I couldn’t get in touch with anyone and she hung up. I repeat SHE HUNG UP. Moral of the story: they don’t answer their phones, the manager is rude, the room doesn’t have heating (and it gets cold in HMB), so I wouldn’t even try to stay here even if it looks like a good price! STAY AWAY!

I would DEFINITELY NOT recommend this motel to anyone. There were many problems. Coffee maker in bathroom very unsanitary, brown stains on white towels, cigarette burn Mark on night stand even though «non-​smoking» room, very hard to sleep due to very busy highway outside window that went all night. I would have accepted all of that and paid the $ 158 to $ 215 per night that I paid for three days while attending a professional seminar in San Francisco, without even complaining, but the total lack of respect and customer service was what really got to me, not the dirty towels or the coffee pot which is probably against health codes. One of the windows also is missing a screen, allowing bugs to fly in and the floor in the bathroom was dirty.
The lack of respect or fairness came into play when the very crabby manager Marina charged me $ 250 because there was A single cigarette butt in a wine glass that I had brought from the outside after watching the sunset at the beach. There was no smoking in the room, however, she yelled at me and told me this was proof there was smoking in the room. She refused to reverse the charge or even talk to me about the fact that maybe there was no actual smoking in the room. No and was caught smoking and there was no smoke. She would not even compromise and refuse to give me the owners name and phone number. I spent $ 500 they’re trying to get a retreat from my professional training and I regret spending even a dollar there and should have gone with my initial instinct when I saw the stained towels, to get out. I recommend you only stay here if you want to be very tired from the noise and stressed from all the attitude! The young lady Lauren was quite kind and I hope she jumps from this sinking ship because there’s no way they can stay in business!!! I wish I could give it zero stars

We had a lovely stay at this sweet inn, just a stone’s throw from the eponymous harbor itself and walkable to all manner of good restaurants. The room was a decent size although only a queen, with a picturesque bay window. The room’s temperature did get a bit warm, but the weather was generally hotter than expected during our stay anyway, and this was easily fixed by opening a window. Don’t bother with the breakfast — it’s bad coffee and a banana from the miniscule «lobby» — but there’s a great café about 100 yards away with good coffee, pastries and full breakfasts. With the hundred dollars plus that you’ll save by booking here as opposed to the bigger (noisier) hotels across the street, you should definitely splash out on a victory breakfast!

This hotel is a great buy! If you want to see half moon bay but don’t want to pay a high price during your stay this is the place to go. The staff is wonderful and they were so helpful to me in so many ways. Plus I got to bring my dog. It was a great hotel. The rooms are nice and your located right next to a really good restaurant. And best of all your only a mile or two from downtown Half Moon Bay.

Needed a place for the night, everything in the area was sold out or not within the work allowed budget. Saw this place had some horrible reviews, thought about trying to find something else but stuck with it.
Glad I did! No, the room is not huge. No its not ON the water. But, I did get one of the remodeled rooms. So its a bed, with an awesome shower, and get I can see the ocean so that’s a perk. It has an awesome little hanging fireplace that’s a room heater and is just nifty and cool.
It’s close to everything.
The only thing that bugs me is that the HD 42″ TV flickers… I can probably fix it though lol.
Yeah the road is right out front. Assuming later I will hear the fog horn sing its sweet songs to me (lol) but its a room that I can sleep in for the night. Oh, and the young lady at the front desk, super sweet awesome service.
Yup, compared to some of the places I have stayed at, and some of the prices I have paid, this place gets 5 stars.
***EDIT*** I had to knock a star off after my night, let’s just say the room may be updated but the beds are NOT! Zero sleep on a hard lumpy mattress. Not a good nights rest.

We pulled in to half-​moon bay tired and in need of a place to stay. The Unilocal reviews were not favorable but we didn’t have many options. Glad we check this place out. It’s not fancy but it’s clean and pleasant and comfortable and right near the harbor. We would definitely stay here again.

I’m not sure what the other reviewers experienced here but we had a great time the room was clean spacious and the staff were courteous. There was a fog horn but soon it became white noise and we could hear the waves. There was a great bay window that we could sit in a drink our morning coffee.

We always have great experiences here and always return every year great customer service at front desk and very helpful room service whenever needing extra toiletries or towels. Always clean when we visit and great view and location

My husband booked their last room online on a Saturday evening 45 minutes before arriving. The site showed it to be on the water and to have newly remodeled rooms. We were looking forward to staying there after a long day.
We arrived and checked in, received our key and went into our room. We were disappointed! This did not appear to be newly remodeled. If so, we would not wanted to have seen the older room. This was a step above Motel6. The linens were stained and thin. The extra pillow did not have a case on it, nor was there one in the drawers. The room was NOT on the water, rather it was off in the distance. Please know, we are not snooty in any way. However, we felt as if we were provided false advertisement by the online photos and the website.
My husband went down to the office to discuss this matter. The reception desk advised they were unable to refund us our money because we did not cancel within 48 hours of booking. If you remember, we booked only 45 minutes before arrival. I called the office several times and receive the same story each time I called. We paid $ 177.72 for nothing. To this day, I have not, and will not receive a refund the for services not rendered. They will not honor the the request for a refund even though we did not stay.
We will never return!

The room was 249.00 per night. Very disappointed. It is our 34 th wedding anniversary. We thought it was on the beach with a nice view but it has a view of the highway. Found potato chips on the floor. Very disappointed. Don’t waste your money.

We stayed here in November and paid $ 100 and were more than happy with our stay.
Yes, our room was like a time capsule from the 1980’s, but the towels were fluffy and clean, the bed mostly comfortable, and the tube TV small, but we weren’t in HMB to watch TV. The shower was high enough for tall people and the water came out strong enough. Were happy to find a refrigerator and microwave in the room along with a space heater (which we didn’t need to use). Best of all, we enjoyed the sunset over the water from our window and were walking distance from our evening plans, so we could enjoy ourselves and walk back.
There was traffic noise, but not too bad. The fog horn was annoying, but not the fault of the hotel. Bring earplugs if those things bother you.
We were completely comfortable and happy there. Would stay again. On our way out we saw some fancier, updated rooms with flat screen TV’s and other more modern amenities, which are more expensive. But, if you just need a place to stay in HMB that’s affordable, this was a good deal.

BUYER BEWARE — be very careful regarding pricing — don’t count on what you book! I booked directly from their website and printed off the confirmation page. When I checked in the front desk agent said she had never seen that confirmation sheet and that the price was different. She asked for the email confirmation (which I hadn’t looked at), when I pulled it up — sure enough the price was substantially higher!!! The agent gave me attitude like I was trying to steal from her. As if I would create some fake confirmation. Absolutely ridiculous and offensive. Management would not respond to two kind emails I have sent them in the last month. I had to fight the charge with my credit card company and I won thankfully.
Aside from that, the rooms do not have any fans or a/​c and it was very hot the day we stayed, opening the windows makes the room extremely loud from the passing highway. Not comfortable. The «view» is over a busy highway. We also found a dead fly IN our sheets (as in, UNDER the covers). Weird.
