ATV Outfitters Hawaii

If we could give a GOLD star we would. This was one of the best experiences we had on the island. We did the waterfall and rainforest trip. The trail was great — my 10 year daughter and I rode in a Polaris and my husband had the solo ATV. No problems and so much fun. As a parent u might thing that a trail would be steep or crazy — just enough to make it so fun.
The waterfall was amazing — we didn’t get to swim because of the earlier rains but it was still just as cool.
If you are on the fence this should push u over wanting to go and experience the fun. Intact our daughter said we should have done the longer one.
Oh by the way — Lebron James visited in 2015 — hello.
Our guides were Darrell and Trisha super nice and very friendly.

We had a great time on this tour, from the great safety lesson and training laps to the swim in the «REFRESHING» waterfall this was one of the best times we have had in all our travels. If you come to the BIG island I highly recommend taking this tour. Our guides Shaleese and Jericho, were very knowledgable and engaging even picked the local fruit for us to taste. And big thank you to Bill. We will be back with the kids!

Had an awesome time riding today!!! Well worth the money! Darryl and his brother «Darryl «Were our awesome guides! Very friendly staff all around and would definitely go again when I come back to visit! They take you up to some awesome view points down by the water and up on the mountain. Even on hot and sunny days like today, we got to ride through some mud!

Great trip through varied terrain and vegetation on a large private preserve. The ATV’s were all in good condition and gave us a chance to travel from 200 to 2000 ft while having fun, slipping, sliding and throwing around a little mud. Thanks to JC and his team for a great tour!

It’s my 1^st time with ATV, but many times for my husband from some where else. We got the side by side one which was very boring, pretty much riding in hot sun & dirt road in very slow speed. A few mins in rain forest and a few mins in water falls, not much scenery in our liking. We had seen better sceneries driving in our own car. It’s a waste of time & money.

This is the second time we have been back to ATV Outfitters after riding with them back in 2009. And once again, they gave us an excellent ride. We chose the Historical Ocean & Kohala Ditch Trail 1.5 hr ride. The scenery was peaceful and breath-​taking. We rode along paths that alternated between straight-​aways, curvy paths through fields, bumpy paths through forested areas and areas along the Kohala Ditch Trail. The lookout over the ocean was just beautiful, where we stopped for refreshments. The other stopping point was over the entire area we had just rode. Our tour guides were J.C. and C.J. J.C. was the one who mainly did the narration and he was very entertaining and funny, which helped make the trip even better.
I was the only female riding with three other guys and I was riding in front. At one point, when we stopped, J.C. noticed my goggles were not right and he fixed them for me, because it turns out the plastic lens had started to come out. I appreciated that he was watching out for things like this.
The ride was well paced, ATVs are not hard to ride and it was loads of fun. This was a very memorable trip and I would highly recommend this company for a fun day!
One note — they do tell you to bring an extra change of clothes with you and seriously do this. I was completely covered with dust/​dirt by the time we were done. They have a hose where you can spray off, or bathrooms where you can wash up. I had dirt UNDER my t-​shirt and my arms were covered with caked-​on dirt. Don’t plan on going to some fancy dinner right afterwards, because I definitely needed a shower! :-)

Fantastic tour of the Kohala area. Our tour guide JC was knowledgeable of the area and of the historical culture. The views of the coast were amazing, passing through the macadamia nut orchard was beautiful and going through the grazing fields was an adventure. This is a great activity for adults and teens. The paths were filled with fun pits and mud puddles that you venture through at approx 20 mph so it’s definitely not an activity for young children or the elderly. The second part of the deluxe trip takes you to two separate waterfalls. If you plan to swim in refreshing water bring a bathing suit and towels. Tennis shoes are a must for a short hike down to the second waterfall. This is definitely a must for the big island!

Outstanding experience. We appreciated 1) emphasis on safety first 2) no hustle for photos or videos to buy 3) no gift shop with tourist trash 4) no tips expected or asked for and 5) great local guides who were having fun and wanted us to have fun too.
This place is what Hawaii is all about. The whole family from grandparents to kids had a great time.

My husband and I did this tour on our honeymoon. Our tour guides Shaleese and Keli’i were super nice and fun. You go by the cliffs and to a waterfall only accessible by ATV which is pretty cool. You do NOT get to go fast, max speed of about 20mph which kind of was a bummer.

CJ & Joey were great, good intro for novice drivers, very professional. The tour was nice, with a stop on the coast and (2) waterfalls…, I got pretty muddy. Due to the rain~ no dust. Really fun outing for all… I highly recommend this adventure!

I went with my wife and sons (9 and 11) and loved it the boys had a great ride and I loved the views. My wife wished she stayed by the pool, what ya gonna do? We did the mid length tour and I would do the Felix if I had it to do over again. Uncle bill and Elmer the cat are great and our guides Joey and Tish we great and Joey had loads of info to share. Super good fun and expect to get very dirty!

Rode to the waterfall and the ride exceeded my expectations. There was some double track and fun terrain, you’re not just on wide fire roads the whole time. Very scenic and fun ride through open meadows, macadamia nut orchard, and rainforest.
Do yourself a favor and bring your own buff. They require you to wear one over your head under your helmet and they also serve as a much needed face mask for the dust. Bring your own and save yourself from wearing one that smells like feet that haven’t been washed for 10 days.
Overall I would definitely recommend this to friends and we had a great time!

Don’t get me wrong, I had fun. It was my first time riding an ATV.
They start you off with practice rounds, just driving around the lawn. When you go in, you expect a lot of forest, etc, but it’s like driving on a normal road. The fastest we drove was probably 25mph. Totally not what i expected. When you actually get to the waterfall, you’re only down there for like 10 mins. Mind you, it’s freaking cold in there so I wouldn’t have wanted to stay any longer, but still fun!
Pretty expensive tour for what you get…

Trip date: July 12, 2014, Group: 8 Adults 3 Children, Products: 10 ATV’s 1 Arctic Cat. Upon arrival at ATV Outfitters Hawaii we were greeted by very welcoming loving native Hawaiians. The business was extremely organized, punctual, safe and careing. Our products and safety gear was clean and ready to go. The safety advisor was very knowledgeable and even ran us through as series of practice courses and service to ensure we was all comfortable and ready to go. Upon meeting out trip guides I felt at ease with the level of confidence and pose they displayed when we were headed to the outback of Hawaii.
Shalees Javillo was our tour guide that covered the rear of our large group. Me and my husband drove the arctic cat and she tailed us to ensure no one was lost and assisted any one who needed help. Shaless was very knowledgeable about the local culture and terrain, she never had a deaf ear when we had a question about anything. I addition Shaless and the whole crew are LGBT friendly and welcoming.
My reckless cousin and boyfriend mistakenly ran into the rear end of each other, the guide was very helpful and ensured we was safe and continued the tour. Once we completed the tour the owner and guides were very helpful and assured us they understand we made a mistake. Instead of charging us $ 800 plus dollars for the repairs, they said they will take the lost because we were such an hones group.
My overall experience was amazing and I highly recommend anyone to ATV Outfitters.

Dayna C. Of ATV Outfitters would like you to think you’ll be riding through an old rainforest which sounds nice but you’ll just skirt the rainforest and barely ride inside it. Good luck enjoying any of the ocean views because you’ll stop long enough to wipe your goggles clean of red dirt before being forced to move on. This is a tour for sucker tourists and is not recommended.

LAST WEEK — Had a GOOD TIME !
We did the 90 minute tour with guide Darryl Kapeliela last week.
Rode up/​down/​through the countryside on rutted trails, some puddles.
It was bumpy enough for me, I’m not a big thrill-​seeker.
Equipment: wear long pants and clothes that you don’t mind if they get splashed with (some) mud. They provide a blue «stocking» to put on your head before you wear the motorcycle-​type helmet, and ski-​type goggles. No photo-​taking while you drive, passengers can take photos though. No GoPro cameras allowed — there’s a sign stating this.
ATV vs. Cart: They have you practice on a short trail behind the store. The woman determines if you can drive a regular «open» ATV, or whether it would be safer driving a «cart/​short truck» w/​roll bars + steering wheel. They thought my wife was having difficulty using the thumb throttle so she was a passenger and I drove the green «cart» — see the photo below. I was a bit slow. OK with us — it felt safer than the ATV. Our teenage son had no trouble at all with using the ATV for the first time.
I’d never driven an ATV before: thumb control on the right as the accelerator, lever on the left to squeeze as the brake, gears-​drive in High, park in Park; it takes some strength to steer with the handles so those who are slight or children might have difficulty.
Route: all on dirt trails, level/​up-​down/​through puddles, open country, bush, macadamia nut orchard, Darryl unlocked & opened many gates. The highlight was going to a secluded rocky beach where we stayed for 15 minutes as he told us about things that he does there (eats crabs raw, gigs octopus, surfs). There’s no narration while you’re driving, only when you stop. We also stopped next to a portion of the Kohala Ditch (Da Ditch — their other tourist activity), but no tours that day since the water level was too low. Water or canned juice was provided. We drove through a field with many cows and calves — none were threatening, some calves ran in front of Darryl for quite awhile!
Safety: We felt safe, no mishaps. It was bumpy enough that I felt my helmet hit the roll bar behind me a few times, glad I had a helmet! They practice super-​safety when crossing streets: both times Darryl and another guide acted as «flag men» to
alert any cars and to signal us to safely cross.
Highly recommend them, it was worth the 45 minute drive from Waikoloa.

STAY AWAY!!! Me and my wife had a horrible experience with them today. The owner only cares about getting your money, not about your experience with them. Do not give them your business, he is not in business to please his customers!!!
THEY WOULD NOT LET ME USE GOPRO TO RECORD OUR EXPERIENCE.
THEY WOULD NOT LET MY WIFE DRIVE THE ATV AFTER SHE SHOWED THE SKILL FOR DRIVING ONE IN THE PRACTICE COURSE.
My wife had an issue with the throttle as it is not twist grip, it is a thumb tab like all ATVs (she has grown up driving scooters and whatnot). She had trouble with throttle for about 15 feet. After that, she completed one lap of the «practice course» and had no issues at all. After she finishes the lap, they made her pull to the side and told her she didn’t have the skill to drive the ATV on the trails… Are you kidding me?!?
So we get all the way up there, pay our money (for 2 drivers), she does a lap, and from one lap they can determine that she will «fail» at driving an ATV… I was so mad, she was devastated, slightly humiliated, and embarrassed. The «trail guides» if you can call them that would not let her even continue after the first lap. I asked multiple times for her just to show them she can drive it, they would not let her do any more laps. So she spend the entire 2+ hour tour sad, and slightly in tears riding behind me instead of driving her own.
The guides were rude and treated us really badly. They want your money, and that is it. They do not care about the experience you have. When I asked the owner why they wouldn’t let her drive, he literally said verbatim «I have over 20,000 customers a year, so I can see things you can’t. Take your [partial] refund ($ 59 out of the $ 159 we paid).» And then he walked away, turning his back to me.
So we basically got ripped off and I will never recommend ATV Outfitters Hawaii to anyone.
