Aunty Sandy’s Banana Bread

This was an unexpected treat in our «Road to Hana» trip. We stopped in to get a drink and chips because we skipped breakfast and it was already 11am. We both got the chili dogs and WOW, they were amazing! I have eaten chili dogs in most every large city and these are as good as any. Look at the pictures already posted and you will see how large they are too. Awesome!
The banana bread was just out of the oven and very warm. It is fantastic and worth every penny. If you have some time to stop here you absolutely will not be disappointed.

It’s $ 6 for a warm, moist loaf of banana bread wrapped in plastic from this roadside stand. No nuts, which is how I prefer my banana bread, so yay.

Is the banana bread actually that good? YES!!!
We came here as a part of a tour group and randomly our guide asked, «Does anyone want to stop for a snack?» «Yes!» My husband replied. We were starving, so this was the perfect stop.
We ordered a tuna sandwich which was just fine. But the BANANA BREAD was amazing. It was still even hot! I had a bit, but my husband ate an entire loaf. Later, he lamented not getting too (even though he was still suffering from a food coma).
Prices are just right.
Lines can get long.
God for the bread!

A must stop on your way to Hana! Their warm sweet banana breads are to die for! On our last trip, after practically inhaling the first one, we bought 5 more to go! Absolutely mouthwatering.

When on the road to Hana this is a MUST STOP! Or, if you are on Maui and want to taste the best banana bread ever drive on the road to Hana and turn at mile marker 16.5 just to get this banana bread — it is worth the drive!
We got 4 loaves and they were warm and fresh from the oven. Oh my!!! This is the most luscious and decadent tasting banana bread. Now I am sure that 1 loaf can be shared by a few people; however, do not torture yourself just get your own loaf. This bread is so good that you will not want to give up even one piece of it to anyone else.
So happy we stopped off at this yummy little find on the road to Hana.

Atmosphere — Tiny little food shack, and yes they have more than bread. But does that really matter.
Food — It is all about the banana bread, hopefully that clarification helps because the business name was not very clear. Mini loafs for $ 6. We got four, one for everyone. I think the first one gone before we got back to the car. The product moves fast as we got to get some hot bread from back in the kitchen. YUM!
Service — Pleasant and fast, what you need when you already know what you want.
Future — Sure it is one of those road side attractions, but next time on the Road to Hana I will be stopping.

Wen u out hea, u gotta stop hea, atleast for their coconut candy or their banana bread. And da people there is always nice.

Warm out of the oven small loafs of the best banana bread??? Yes please!
I’ve been coming to Aunty Sandy’s for about 10 years and the banana bread is the BOMB! The perfect size to share or not. (If it is two of you, just get two loafs. It will save the fighting over the crumbs.)
The shop is on the road to Hana at the 16.5 mile marker on the road, you will see a sign for a road to Keane on the left. It is well worth the time to stop and enjoy the best banana bread in Maui.

I remember hearing about this stop on the Road to Hana from a friend last year. I guess my friend hyped it up too much for me because I wasn’t blown away. It was freshly baked and still warm when we got there which is always good, and I could taste the richness of the butter (?). But I’m a texture person, so I needed some nuts or maybe even a little extra spice like cinnamon. It was definitelty one of the better banana breads I’ve had, but I just needed a little more oomph.

Aunty Sandy’s is part of a great little side trip on the Road to Hana. Ke’Anae is a nice place to get some picture perfect ocean photos and with all that hard work, reward yourself with a little loaf of banana bread heaven. The loaf was super warm and hit the spot for a snack.
I also picked up some pineapple there and it was super sweet and juicy. Even if you don’t make the side trip for ocean picutes, make the trip for the banana bread.

Sam took us here on our road to Hana tour! It was the best snack for $ 6 a loaf. I honestly think it helped with the motion sickness too haha! Perfect amount of sweetness and so moist!

Go for the banana bread, either a loaf for now or dry mix for later. Drive down a bit more for a spectacular view of the lava formations by the ocean.

Great spot to stop along the drive to Hana. A little off the road but worth the drive! Excellent banana nut bread! $ 6 for a small loaf and served warm. Nice small outdoor area with picnic tables to take a break. Would definite recommend stopping! Good service and very friendly. They had a few other items on the menu. Appeared very clean.

This place is always busy they offer a selection of sandwiches, hamburgers and hotdogs as well as shaved ice but we go for the banana bread. It’s the best!

By far the best shaved ice and banana bread we’ve had on Maui. Celia (I might have that wrong), was super helpful and recommended all the top flavors.
Service was super fast and the food was delicious. We’ll definitely be back!

If you’re lucky enough to get a loaf fresh from the oven, you’ll absolutely love the banana bread here! It is super moist and flavorful, I’m drooling as I’m writing this review. The loaf isnt too big so 2 – 3 people can definitely share a loaf and finish it! :)

The banana bread is great here, warm, light, and buttery as everyone says. We grabbed a loaf from Julia’s the day before and had fun comparing and contrasting over the next few breakfasts. Julia ultimately came out ahead, but we really enjoyed both versions a lot. I’d continue to make Sandy’s a stop, especially paired with the beautiful Keanae Peninsula.

Hands down the best banana bread!
Along the road to Hana, one of our stops was the half way point, Ke’anae Peninsula. I highly recommend stopping here for not just the unbelievable views but for Aunty Sandy’s.
After we enjoyed looking around, we decided to get some of the banana bread that we had heard so much about and some shave ice. We knew we were in for a treat after they handed us a super hot mini load of banana bread fresh out of the oven. It was perfect. Great flavor, moist and nice and warm. Delicious. We just loved it! In fact, we enjoyed some for a few mornings following.
Banana bread aside, we thought the shave ice was the best we tried in Hawaii so I would recommend trying it as well.
To sum up, no road to hana trip is complete without a stop at Aunty Sandy’s!

A definite must-​stop when on the Road to Hana. This is almost your halfway mark and what better way to celebrate that accomplishment than with a freshly baked banana bread that is sold still warm from the oven. They go for about $ 5 a loaf, or shall I say mini loaf? Doesn’t matter because they’re probably one of the best banana breads you’ll ever taste in your life. Trust me when I say get 5 loaves from the get go. Unless of course you don’t mind driving up that winding road to Hana for this. As I was saying, this heavenly piece of bread is super moist, perfectly sweet, and has no nuts whatsoever. Just how I like my banana bread, sweet and simple.
Their Hawaiian shave ice is not the best I’ve had. Coarse and thick ice is not my thing when devouring this delight but no doubt it is refreshing on a long road trip like this. My girls killed it in no time.
Be sure to make a pit stop at the Keanea Peninsula which you’ll find just a few yards down from here. Waves splashing on lava rocks causing a little blowhole effect is a sight to behold. Not sure if I was happier to see this or the public restroom nearby.
P. S. This and the Keanea Landing Fruit Stand is one and the same. Confusing, I know. And they accept credit cards now.

Bei Kahului beginnt der State Highway 360, der nach Hana führt. Nach ca. ²⁄₃ der Wegstrecke und gefühlten unendlich vielen Kurven erstreckt sich linker Hand die Halbinsel (Peninsula) Keanae. Hier lohnt ein kleiner Abstecher, um eine Pause an der wild zerklüfteten schwarzen Lavaküste einzulegen.

Vom State Hwy führt die Keanae Peninsula Road zu einer kleinen Siedlung auf der Halbinsel. Bevor man diese erreicht, liegt auf der rechten Seite der Straße Aunty Sandy’s Banana Bread. In einem erhöhten Holzhaus werden die leckersten Früchte Hawaiis angeboten, frisch vom Lande direkt auf die Hand. Erfrischungsgetränke ergänzen das kleine Angebot von diesem Fruit Stand.
Und dann gibt es hier noch etwas ganz Besonderes: Bananenbrot! Zunächst sieht das Brot wie viele andere aus. Sobald man jedoch hineinbeißt, verteilt sich Bananengeschmack im Mund. Ein neues, unbekanntes Geschmackserlebnis und nach einigen Gewöhnungsbissen schmeckt es sogar. Selbst kombiniert mit gegensätzlichen Geschmacksrichtungen wie Käse oder Aufschnitt.
Hiermit und mit kühlen Getränken bewaffnet zieht man ein paar hundert Meter weiter (besser gesagt, man fährt — wir sind schließlich in den USA) und lässt sich noch vor Beginn der Siedlung am schwarzen, kleinen Strand nieder, umgeben von kantigem und schroffem Lavagestein. Auf einem Baumstamm sitzend mundet das Picknick köstlich, brausende Wellen spielen Orchester und vor unseren Augen biegen sich auf einer kleinen Inseln hoch oben auf dem Gipfel ein paar verlassene Palmen (siehe Fotos).
Fazit: Die Tour nach Hana machen viele Maui-​Besucher. Den Abstecher hierher die allerwenigsten. Auch wir haben das Banana Bread nur durch Zufall gefunden. Es ist also ein echter «Geheim-​Tipp». Hinfahren! Mit vier Sternen dekoriert.
