Description

Specialties

Hike into a private 300-foot-deep canyon with great waterfalls that drop into deep pools. We outfit you with everything you need for this tour, including special-traction water shoes, harness, helmet, rappelling device and life jacket (if you want one), backpack, lunch and bottled water. From Central Maui we drive you to our site. The first rappel is an easy 60-foot gentle slope that ends with the descent of a vertical rock wall. You can do this rappel as often as you need to be comfortable before rappelling down the first waterfall. Then it’s time to drop off the cliffs. It’s absolutely safe – if you have difficulty, our guides can stop you at any time. The guide at the top can haul you back up if necessary. You’ll either just walk down the cliff or sail through the air, depending on the structure of the canyon, and you will be able to rappel four or five times so that you’ll really enjoy it. Swim in deep pools beneath the waterfalls. Then hike back up a challenging jungle trail.

History

Established in 2007.

We operated for two years as Maui Canyon Adventures, but then we lost our site of operations. Finally after six years we have a new name, Maui Canyon Adventures Inc., dba Rappel Maui, and a better site at the Wailele Pali property adjacent to the Garden of Eden Arboretum at Mile Marker 10.5 on the Hana Highway. Our operations manager is Dave Black is a renowned canyoneering instructor for the American Canyon Guides Association and author of the definitive books of Canyoneering, Ice Climbing in Utah and What to do When the Shit Hits the Fan. We offer courses in canyoneering and rappelling, and Dave is an educator and certifier for The Emergency Care and Safety Institute for the teaching of Wilderness First Responder courses, advanced Wilderness First Aid and CPR. From the beginning it has been our intention to increase your ability to enjoy our planet by providing you with skills that allow you to enjoy places that would otherwise be considered inaccessible.
