Wonder Book & Video

I went there Saturday evening and was not impressed. There is no database, so finding things is difficult. The audio books are stacked on the floor, which makes it hard to browse. They wanted to charge me $ 28 for a used DVD that Walmart sells new for under $ 20. The man working there was not at all helpful and arrogant. The store is dirty and smells a bit musty. The prices are high for used books and are not priced based on condition. I will never go back there again. There are much better used bookstores in the Hagerstown area.

Delightful. Have found some favourites and beautiful editions here for almost nothing.

They only offered us $ 7 for about forty basically new books. Some hardback. That would have been nice to know before their associate moved everything from the box we brought to their store one. We could have easily just said no in the beginning.

A place you can get lost. In a good way. you can find things you never thought youd see again and things you werent really looking for. Support your local business and give this place a chance. Youll fall in love if you read to find adventure.

Great bookstore, good prices… old stuff, newer stuff… but a treasure trove of old books. Here is why I gave 4 instead of 5
1. No bathroom! come on… a store that big and no bathroom?
2. staff are very blah, not friendly or clever (ive been there about 15 times in the last couple months so it didnt deter me, its about the bookz)
3. No inventory search at all

We visited again last weekend. We drive an hour and a half to go used book shopping and to one of our favorite restaurants. They don’t have a bathroom, so we got only as far as the «this just in» shelves. I filled up a handbasket just with those, so if I had been able to pee after the long drive I probably would have filled up two carts’ worth. Just sayin’.

This is a treasure of a used bookstore. I was pleasantly surprised by how organized the shop is given the sheer volume of books. I like a particular American author who is no longer in print, so it’s always a delight to find a book from the 30’s or 40’s by the author.
They have loads of older craft books and brochures.
I was looking for a manga for 8 yo and they were able to advise on which manga series might be appropriate for that age.

If you like Books and Books and more Books… then you will fall in love with Wonder Books. This place is like a maze with aisles and aisles of books. There are books on shelves, books stacked on the floor, Books on top of stands, Books inside Books… It’s book insanity. and Its amazing! You could easily spend the better part of your entire day just browsing one section at a time. It’s one of those places that you walk into and say… well where should I start, then 5 hours later you walk out with 20 books and you spent like 15 bucks and know more about the great depression and canning vegetables than you ever thought you would. I highly recommend stopping into Wonder Books when in the Hagerstown area.

This is an excellent used book store, with just about every kind of book you can imagine. I have consistently been impressed with its foreign language section. To the reviewer who only knows the outlets and Little Caesar’s, I will thank you to stay in northern VA, where keeping your nose permanently in the air is acceptable. To the customer I saw berating the staff member who couldn’t look up titles on the computer and immediately determine whether certain books were in stock, I will thank you to stay at home, too. The entire point of going to a used book store is to search and to discover. If you are unable to go to the fiction section and simply look for the author’s name (in alphabetical order), then you belong at Borders or Barnes and Noble.

To me, Hagerstown has the Prime Outlets and the only Little Caesar’s that I know of that’s left in the world. That’s it. Those two things pretty much round out my understanding of Hagerstown. And then I discovered this little gem in a strip mall that has a place called Super Shoes in it, which probably sells… shoes. Wonder Book & Video makes me happy just to think about my experience there. This ain’t exactly Barnes and Noble, with its corporate polish, hot lattes and juggernaut-​like delivery of books. What Wonder Book has are not-​so popular books, video games, DVDs. Lots of books, though! Used, new books. A previous Unilocaler, Kate B. of Hanover, PA, suggested that you don’t go with the goal of looking for one specific book – that’s counter to the point of it all. Go to Wonder Book when you have a good two to three hours of your time to just lallygag and enjoy sitting down on the floor and looking through books almost a 100 years old, in some cases. I’m weird in that I actually like to buy books with someone’s notes in the margins. And they have plenty like that here. Did I mention how cheap these books are? Or the free wi-​fi for us Internet nerds? So, there it is. Hagerstown now means three things to me. The outlets, old school pizza and Wonder Book.

I once encountered a man in Wonder Book & Video grumbling because he couldn’t find the book he wanted. «It’s like finding a needle in a haystack!» he complained.
See, that’s the thing with Wonder Book — you can’t go with a goal. It should be approached with an open mind, and give yourself a good time frame so you can browse to your heart’s content. I’ve been to the store many times (including their other locations in Frederick) and sometimes I’ll walk away with nothing, other times I’ll find several random treasures.
And while there’s a great selection of a wide variety of books, don’t expect them all to be in great quality — when they say used, they mean it, and some are batches of books that must have been damaged at some point.

The only downside is that there’s no bathroom, and their staff will redirect you to the chinese restaurant in the plaza. But otherwise, if you’re a natural browser and are looking to expand your personal library with some really interesting finds, this is the place!
