Cute shop with lots of pictures to show its history. I was expecting homemade ice cream, but it’s all Hershey. They did have a decent selection though and they even had a rather expansive sandwich/snack menu. I had a pretzel, but I was let down when I realized it was microwaved. We visited a second time when the weather was warmer and I wasn’t overly impressed with our trip. One of the employees, possibly a manager wasn’t very happy with the size of the scoop my toddler was given. It was a normal size, just big for a little one. I just helped my child eat it. I was also disappointed they had no restroom for customers to use(not ideal for anyone with small sticky kids, especially potty training)…we had walked to the parlor so it was a race to get home to avoid an accident. I tried a specialty slushie drink they had listed on a sign and it was awful, tasted like 3 day old, warm lemonade that was thrown into a cup of crushed ice. We won’t be returning.

Superior? Um, no. This is NOT homemade ice cream. It’s Hershey’s. I guess the freezer was on the blitz because my ice cream was so soft it was melting from the minute I got my cone. The girl claimed that’s just the way that flavor is. And I found a hair in mine. :-(

Pretty good. Homemade taste, good service, small-town feel. I was a little disappointed with the Cookies ‘n Cream, but the waffle cone was good. Parking is a little tight, but it fits with the rest of the shop. Overall, it’s a bit above average.

Almost thought it wasn’t there when I rolled by, but I caught the glow of the lights inside. They had a decent selection of flavors, and the girl behind the counter was very nice. Upon tasting the sweet goodness, I was very happy. Good ice cream; I’d go back if in the area again.

Oh yes — the Superior Dairy! Our family started going here in 1948. I can remember as a wee boy getting ice cream cones here. I would stop there when I went to Surrey Elementary up on Summit Ave., and when I attended South Potomac Jr. High. There used to be a walk-up window, picnic tables and an outside speaker with all the popular hits — for some reason I have The Fleetwoods ‘Come Softly to Me’ associated with this place. I took my daughters there regularly back in the late 1970s, and it had evolved into a walk-in ice cream store. Fair enough — the ice cream was still delicious !! Our family has moved out of Hagerstown, and I live in California now. A couple of years ago my youngest daughter was back in Hagerstown for a visit — and brought me a Superior Dairy t-shirt. So I guess she remembers too … Yeah, I’m a fan !!

Excellent pitstop when heading back to Baltimore on I70. Many dozen flavors of ice cream available in many forms, cup, cone, mikshake, sundae, etc.
