Had a lovely breakfast here. The service was great and the Omelette was delicious. The price was remarkably low for the quality of food. Luckily we went there when there wasn’t a wait, but I could see it being quite crowded on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Definitely a great spot for college students, with a killer special, correctly titled, the hungry college boy.

Today was our first visit to Stables. We’ve lived in the area for decades and never ventured down. We have been missing out! We visited for brunch during the busy holiday season. We were greeted right away and seated within minutes of arriving, even though the restaurant was very busy! The menu and specials were full of amazing options. We had just missed out on the pumpkin walnut French toast special, but that did not bother us in the least. Our children ordered French toast and pancakes with a side of bacon. My husband and I each ordered scrambles. Our food arrived hot and delicious less than ten min after placing our order. The food was delicious! The coffee hot and way better than any dive or diner coffee. I upgraded my toast to the house made pay molasses and it was amazing! The service was super prompt, thorough, friendly, and kind. The restaurant was super clean and tidy. We will be back!

This place has cheap food and a nice country atmosphere and pleasant staff. I rate it as two stars because the food tastes aweful. It is greasy and has no flavor. The pancakes tastes like the hashbrowns tastes like the eggs. I will not be returning especially when I discovered a much nicer place aile down the road(Elson Coffee).

Breakfast all day! Lots of choices and specials. The whole time we were there people were coming in and out. Very popular. Hard to mess up breakfast but everything I saw come out of the kitchen looked great. They have great homemade breads. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely come back here for breakfast.

We love The Stables! Good home cooking, friendly service and very reasonable prices. Couldn’t ask for a better breakfast spot!

Crowded, rough, difficult to get a table, but worth the wait. Great greasy-spoon breakfast fare, delicious omelettes, pancakes, traditional fare. Service isn’t excessively quick. The problem with Stables is that their parking lot is HUGE, their building, not so much. For this reason you get lines sometimes get even longer than those out of the Lone Wolf, but in this place that’s not in a downtown and whose food isn’t trying to be something different. Which is fine, that’s the point of this restaurant is that it’s another valley mainstay for good basic breakfast food– their omelettes, pancakes, hash, really most things on the menu, always hit the spot.

Very strange experience overall. Walked in and wanted to sit at the bar but my husband and i were ushered to a table near a window. The waitress asked coffee? and my husband said yes and she brought 2 out a few mins later. I’m 6 months pregnant and can’t have coffee, and we told her sorry, but we had only asked for one. I asked for a water which was never brought out. About 5 mins later, she looped back around to take our order. I had blueberry pancakes, sausage, bacon, and eggs. Still no water. I asked a different server for a water and they didnt bring me one– I guess they just let the waitress know. I actually went out to the car and grabbed a bottle of water that I had been drinking earlier in the day to drink with my meal. I felt shunned for her mistake in bringing coffee to a pregnant lady that didnt order one. As for the food, the pancakes were completely undercooked. It looked like the person cooking forgot it had blueberries in it and threw them in after it had started cooking because they were all plopped in the center and not connected to the rest of the pancake. They were also small, frozen blueberries, so I ended up just eating around the blueberry pile in the center. The hubs ordered ham, eggs, toast, and hashbrowns, and his rye toast was probably the best thing out of our two dishes. The waitress brought us our check and never returned. Meal came to about $ 19. I saw her grab signed credit card slips from tables before folks had left(rude!) so it’s possible that her shift was over and she left for the day. After a 10 min wait for her to come back to us, we ended up leaving cash on the table and walking out. Although confusing at first, their«cold coffee, bad food, lousy service» logo actually makes a lot more sense to me after dining here. Definitely won’t be giving this place another shot.

All I gots to say is «Starving College Boy» since 2001 when I was an undergrad. It’s been great ever since. Try the banana pancakes you’ll be in heaven.

I wish I could give this the 3 stars that its food deserves, but the ‘lousy service’ tag on the back of server’s shirts is sadly not ironic. After waiting in line we were seated where we promptly… waited some more. No one brought water, no one took our order, no one spoke to us. We flagged someone down to get drinks, and then waited some more as three tables seated after us were given water immediately and had their orders taken. When we finally got our server to even look at us she tersely told us she had a table ahead of us and proceeded to go to yet another group that had been seated after us. This was(and I’m not exaggerating) the LAST time our ‘server’ spoke to us for the rest of the meal. We had to ask yet another person to take our order, which apparently made our server surlier(who knew that was possible) and she glared at our table for the rest of the meal every time she passed. We had to flag a waitress down for water, for coffee. No one, not a single person came to check on us. Our table was not hidden away – we were in the middle of the room and our server had to pointedly NOT serve us or speak to us every time she went to help another table. After we mentioned the lack of service while paying at the register,(we were the ONLY table that had to pay at the register btw, everyone else had their check brought to them at the table) there was no apology or even acknowledgement of the abysmal service. We were just told that the waitress had been busy. She was funny enough, not too busy to serve other tables, check in with them and bring coffee and water unsolicited. She was also not too busy to blatantly glare at our table every time she passed. She WAS too busy to ever say a single word to our party after someone else finally took our order. Finally Stables is ALWAYS busy on weekend mornings; we’ve all been here before and that’s a given. This felt blatant and deliberate and we could not help but notice the only difference between our table and all the others was that we were black.

Pioneer valley does breakfast so well and this is one of the good ones! Nothing fancy– just good ol’ homemade breakfast with fresh made bread. It can get real busy but if you are in the area– I would check it out.

We really like this small, home-cookin kind of place. It occasionally is too crowded for our liking. But that speaks to how good the food is!

This was one of the worst«eating out» experiences I’ve had. My husband, daughter and I went out for lunch and breakfast here after having lived here for 4 years and were all put off by the food and service. No one said anything to us for a while when waiting to be seated, and then once we received service it was not very friendly. The food was awful; no one finished eating. The pancake my daughter got was not the worst, but very bland. It seemed as though they had their regulars there and wanted to keep it that way. I would NEVER go back. Very«towny» atmosphere, in a bad way.

Get«The Blizzard», it isn’t on the menu and it’s about $ 9 for more food than you can handle. Stables is sentimental to me but I hate how crowded it is and the prices can’t compare to the other breakfast joints in the area. Go here if Sully’s is too gross for you, it’s also 5x better than the diner.

Travelers, dont be put off by the appearance outside! Delicious home made breads! Great menu, on vacation we ate here 3 days and each day the food was consistent and yummy! Next time we are in the area we will make the stop! The staff was friendly, attentive and nice to the kids by choice, not force! Does not take credit cards so bring cash, the atm is a 4 – 5 dollar charge!

This place is amazing and always packed. Guess it doesn’t need Unilocal reviews — just travels by word of mouth. Definitely check it out for a brunch spot, but be prepared to wait. The food is worth it! Bring cash, there’s no credit accepted.

Delicious homemade bread puts this consistent breakfast stop over the top for me. Lived in the area for 7 years and this place is by far my favorite breakfast place around.

Opens early and closes after lunch, so get your fix for diner food early and quick. This is the kind of place that everyone has in their home town or little corner of the world that is always reliable and the waitresses seem to be the friendliest on earth. It’s like part of a script for a scene in a tv show or a movie. These places always serve reasonable food that reminds you of home cooking. The wife and I split some eggs, sausage, hash browns and their home made corn bread and banana nut bread. The home made breads definitely are a winner. The sausage was delicious too. Definitely a great place for a hang over cure or breakfast. Lunch will have to wait for the next trip.

The hours are a bit odd as is the fact that a restaurant still exists in this area without accepting credit cards. They do have an ATM but honestly… make the extra effort. Another thing is the hours on weekends, given that this is located next to such large schools maybe staying open a bit later would be more desireable then closing around noon on the days that college kids have off. Besides that, the service is exceptional and the food is phenomenal. The only food that I didn’t like were the grits but given that we are in MA I will forgive them of their sins there. Also, prices are quite good.

The best breakfast place/diner I have found in the area! I will go any time. My favorite is the meal w/cheesy-eggy english muffins(i forget the menu’s name for this!!) very reasonable. Like any good breakfast spot, it gets packed but it is much, much tastier than the route 9 diner down the road(inside a strip-mall parking lot)
