Mezza House

I went there awhile back and the food was ok. I would have liked to go back to try something different; however, the restaurant owner left such a bad taste in my mouth that I wouldn’t go back. They had had some special going on with
and when we tried using it the owner told us he was no longer honoring the coupon. We explained that it’s active on the site and not expired and after much going back and forth he finally accepted it, but that interaction should never have happened in the first place. That is a problem best left to resolve with him and
NOT the patron. Bad customer service.

I had been wanting to try Mezza House for awhile so when I saw that they had a Groupon special I was super excited! I purchased the Groupon and attempted to use it this past Friday (no where on the Groupon or website did it state that it could not be used on a Friday or weekend). We got to Mezza House and waited for several minutes until we were greeted by the waitress even though the owners were sitting at the front table. The waitress finally cleaned a table off and seated us. We brought wine so she opened the bottle but did not bother pouring our glasses which was fine. I informed the waitress that we had a Groupon that we would be using and she immediately snapped and stated with an attitude «we don’t accept Groupons on Friday’s, so if you want to eat you’ll have to pay out of pocket.» I was kind of taken back by how she responded and thought maybe I had made some type of mistake so I pulled up the Groupon on the application on my phone and looked over the paper Groupon that I had with me and realized that it hadn’t stated that it could not be used on Friday’s. I showed the waitress and suggested that they change this on the website so that other customers do not have the same issue. She again responded with an attitude «well I don’t know what to tell you, we don’t accept them Friday’s and we actually won’t be accepting them at all anymore.» I asked her what I was supposed to do with the Groupon then, that I had the right to use it I just purchased it the previous day. She then stated «well can’t you just use it somewhere else?!» (you can’t use Groupons at other establishments). Needless to say we decided not to dine there, we corked our wine up and left. The way that management handled this situation was completely unprofessional, if it was there mistake they should have honored it. I probably would have even still have eaten there if I had to pay out of pocket it the woman wasn’t so rude and disrespectful. I reported the situation to Groupon in attempt to get my money back, I have no desire to be a patron at a place that treats their customers like this.

Have been here numerous times, and always consistently excellent. Staff is knowledgeable and attentive, and often family of the owners, which is a good thing, as they are invested in a great dining experience. If you’re looking for a quick in and out dinner, you should probably look elsewhere, as every dish is prepared to order fresh, even the hummus and baba ganoush. A great BYO gem, we enjoy the Mezza sampler and often split an entrée salad. All the dishes are healthy and homemade, and haven’t had a dish we didn’t thoroughly enjoy. Some of the best dining in the area, can’t stress that enough!

This was my first experience having Lebanese food, though I have had other Middle-​eastern and Mediterranean foods. We were passing through Hackettstown and looking for a new culinary experience.
The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our server (who might also be the owner) was from Lebanon and explained each dish and it’s ingredients. The chef even came out to check on us.
We ordered a variety of dishes to share and experience a range of flavors. Everything was fresh, homemade and delicious! One person in our party is gluten-​free and many of the dishes on them menu are gluten-​free and vegetarian.
Starting with an herbaceous Lebanese Hot Tea. It was very floral made from rose pedals and other flowers. The Phoenicia Fries were sprinkled with a nice blend of spices. They were tasty on their own, but even better when dipped in the Baba Ghanoush or Hummus. These dips, though very similar looking were distinct in flavor and both creamy and delicious. Dip the fries in them, spread them on a pita, or just eat off the spoon! The Lubieh Bi-​Zeit was a preparation of green beans that I have never heard of, cooked in a garlicky tomato and oil-​based sauce. The M’ Jadara was another dish I was unfamiliar with: Lentils and rice topped with crispy, caramelized onions. It is served with a side of whipped garlic (which was also nice to dip the Phoenicia Fries into, as suggested by the chef). Kibbeh is a meatball mixed with onion and bulgur wheat. The Tabboule was a refreshing salad of parsley and minced tomato and onion. My favorite of all was the Falafel. I have had falafel in many different preparations. Many were overdressed, or too dry. This was perfect! Served on a platter with a creamy tahini sauce. For dessert we had a selection of Baklava: crisp and flaky phyllo dough with a variety nuts and a touch honey. It was a lighter version of the Turkish version I am used to.
I was very happy with the food, service and atmosphere. If I am ever in Hackettstown again or craving some delightful Lebanese cuisine, I will absolutely come back. I highly recommend you stop in!

Delicious food… so fresh and tasty. The seasoned fries are simple and so GOOD. We really enjoyed our lunch there and the service from the young waitress was excellent. Really enjoyed our lunch there and we wiill definitely go back.

Visited Mezza last night. Unfortunately, it was our first and last visit, as it was a completely bad experience. To set the stage, we were a party of 7, when we walked in there was only one patron sitting at the counter. We all sat and party of 6 came in shortly after us. Our waitress was not knowledge of the menu at all, and really could only basic information. Additionally there were strange combination deals that really didn’t make sense in the menu. Two couples in our party order the Obsession combination. The three others order specific items from the menu. I won’t speak to specific menu items as it really doesn’t matter as you hear shortly.
So as we proceeded to wait for our meals, and I mean we waited a long time, at least 30 minutes before the first items started to arrive. Side note; the party of 6 ordered and had food on their table in 15 minutes.
Basically, it took about another 30 minutes for our orders trickled to out table. By the everything was delivered the food was mostly cold, and not tasteful at all.
Honestly I can go on and on with details but I would just summarize it as saying we will never return to Mezza.

Amazing food, amazing service! The garlic sauce stuff is out of this world. All fresh food, they don’t even have a freezer!

Pricey but good and not cheap quality food that you get at other places with much lower prices.

Ordered for pickup, a Beef Shawarma, Hummus, and Chicken Shawarma wrap from the Mezza House. Very disappointed when I got home in what I receive for the amount that I paid. The Shawarma wrap was supposed to include fries on the side for $ 9 and the woman said fries are separate and would be a different charge and also she did not have any to serve. I wished she had told me this over the phone initially.
The Beef Shawarma she said it is a platter for $ 18 but it only had tomatoes, rice and something like a salad in the corner of the aluminum container. The beef was very chewy and not enjoyable. Take a look at my photo and tell me if the Beef Shawarma in the aluminum container is a «platter»?
What made things worst, I called to ask her what is a platter and she said if you don’t like the price don’t come back here and then she hung up the phone. The whole experience was a terrible one.
We’ve had superb Lebanese cuisine in Paterson, New York and Stroudsburg, PA.
I will not be going back there.

Amazing Hummus! This is s rate find for Hackettstown!
We just had the Mediterranean platter, enough for 2 – 3. Grilled chicken, beef and lamb along with veggies. It comes with 2 «Mezzas» (the name for appetizers here), more than enough for two. We had the hummus, smooth chickpeas with olive oil & just a hint of garlic served with complimentary pita bread, so good! Will make you understand how crummy the packaged hummus products are. Also had the spicy spinach tart, fresh made turnovers with a yummy veggie filling. Try something different in Hackettstown ! Try Mezza Grill!

We love this place. Great authentic food. Byob! The seasoned fries are a must have and the food is always fresh! The atmosphere is very fitting.

I gorged myself on fantastic hummus, baba ghanoush, tabboule, and other delicacies. The chicken, steak, and everything else were delicious. The walls are artfully decorated and hang great pictures. All of the ingredients are the freshest possible and it shines through in the flavor.
Oh, and they make a great cup of coffee!

We found this restaurant via another site that helps with on-​line reservations so I was expecting great things — and my expectations were met and exceeded.
The restaurant in a small, charming, comfortable space. Our server, Sandra, is knowledgeable and helpful with our menu selections and a joy.
Since this was our first time we ordered the Mediterranean Platter so we could sample a variety of offerings. As the menu states «the ultimate grill» — lamb, beef and chicken kabob and kafta, served with rice and grilled onions and tomato and a choice of two mezza which we chose hummus and m’jadara (lentil rice) served with pita. Everything was delicious, fresh and presented with care.
We also enjoyed a slice of the walnut cake — so good.
PS – BYOB and I love that.

EVERYTHING FROM THE ATMOSPHERE TO THE SERVICE TO THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. I usually don’t take the time to write a review but I feel mezza house well deserves one. If I could give this place ⁶⁄₅ stars I would.
Me and my husband ate here a few nights ago and will definitely be coming back. Our server was a sweet younger girl named taylor. Which is also my name, pretty cool. She was happy to answer all of our questions and make recommendations based on what was most popular. They next time we go to mezza I will definitely be requesting her as our waitress again.
My husband had the lamb kabobs and I had the grilled shrimp platter. We both finished every last bit! And we had appetizers before that (humus and grape leaves. mmmmm).
Mezza house gave us extremely generous portions and was also not too expensive. My husband is a very picky eater– so when I saw him swallow his meal almost whole I was in shock! It was so good we had Taylor put in another order for us to take to go home.
For dessert we had baklava and Lebanese tea. There is nothing else like it!
I would recommend mezza house to anyone looking for something different yet tasty in the Hackettstown area.

Went with my son for brunch on valentines day because Stella G’s was packed with couples. We were delighted by the décor and the friendly staff. The best falafels that I have had and the fries were yummy. I would definitely recommend making reservations because they weren’t ready for everything on the menu. My son had to alter his order because the wait would have been a half an hour. The food was fresh, delicious and plentiful. Will be back!

First Lebanese restaurant I’ve ever been to and I was impressed. The meatballs were out of this world good. The beef kabab dinner is absolutely wonderful.
The service is some of the worst I’ve experienced at any restaurant, though.

We went here on the first Friday in November, which was very soon after Mezza House’s grand opening. We went for a late lunch, around 3pm. I’d love to rate the restaurant higher, but the overall experience was just average.
Positives first:
1. The restaurant has lovely décor — lots of mosaics on the wall and beautiful hanging lanterns — good overall ambiance, even in the middle of the afternoon.
2. The food was very good. I’m not an expert in Mediterranean food, but the spices/​seasonings were delicious and added to each part of our meal.
Now, some anecdotal notes about why my experience was only worth of a 3 star rating:
1. Despite the fact that there was only one other couple dining at the restaurant, the service was very slow. Between the app and entrée, there was a 20 minute wait. The frustration of that was compounded with the waitress telling us, «The meals will be right out,» and then us having to wait for quite some time.
2. The prices, even for lunchtime, were quite high. We spent about 40 dollars, tip included, for our lunch, but when we left, we didn’t really feel full.
This restaurant is a great addition to Hackettstown, or any small town main street for that matter. Hopefully, the wait time has improved since we were last there.

A newer restaurant, Mezza is a much needed ethnic addition to Hackettstown. The people are delightful from Sandra to Habib and everyone in between!
The food was delicious and authentic. Prices reasonable and portions perfect. I went on new Years eve and the regular menu wasn’t offered so I fully intend to go back and have a lamb burger soon! My son had the vegetable meal, I had the shawarma, wife had the kabobs, daughter the falafel. All were excellent!
