Evolutionary Martial Arts specializes in Character Development through dynamic Martial Arts, Fitness and Self Defense programs. We offer age specific Martial Arts programs for Children, Teens and Adults. Our Little Ninjas Program for 3 & 4 year olds in the perfect outlet for the abundant energy of pre schoolers, Our Junior Dragons program for 5 – 7 year olds builds confidence through physical fitness, self defense and focus drills and games in an age appropriate, engaging structured environment. Our Juniors program for ages 8 – 12 focuses on personal responsibility, conflict resolution, fitness and diligence.

Our Teen program for ages 12 – 15 is a confidence building program which teaches practical self defense skills, a positive attitude with a no nonsense approach to breaking the lazy habits and create healthy habits.

Our Adult Martial Arts programs are all based on practical self defense, fitness and conditioning and stress relief.

History

Established in 2003.

Evolutionary Martial Arts opened its’ doors in Hackettstown in September of 2003 under the name Integrated Martial Arts & Fitness West. After a name change and a few locations we have planted strong roots at 111 Main street where we’ve been since June of 2011. We’ve named the new location Evolutionary Martial Arts Shogun Academy after our Owner and Chief Instructor’s son, Julius, whose middle name is Shogun, meaning Leader or Commander.

Our Instructors are all constantly evolving students of the Martial Arts with diverse backgrounds, skills and talents.

Great place! This is not a «buy your belt» martial arts school, this school offers high level instructors who do not just train you their art but they train WITH you! Your not going to feel like you joined the military and fear going to class, you will feel like you extended your family and look forward to going to see your brothers and sisters to train really great stuff! our family has been part of the EMA family for 4 years now and expect to be for many more!

My 4 year old son is in the Little Ninja program and for the past year and a half I am constantly amazed at what a positive impact his experience has made on him. His instructors have astounding patience and focus with their students. It is apparent in my son’s improvement in his mental concentration, his physical agility as well as in his level of respect and kindness towards both his elders and his peers. Best of all, he has so much fun!
I also participate in the women’s kick boxing and I have tried the Fit for Battle (which I desperately want to get back to) and I can honestly say that you will not get a better work out at any other gym or health club. You will train muscles you didn’t know you had and push yourself to limits you never thought you could. Sifu Dave and Sifu Doug have helped me build so much confidence in myself, both physical and mental. They are truly passionate and knowledgeable in their craft.
There is one important factor that can not be left out. Owner Sifu Dave, his family and the instructors are some of the kindest people you could ever meet. They participate so much in the community of Hackettstown and care greatly about the people who live here. You get more than just a membership when you sign up. EMA is a community in itself. They are like a family. We have made so many friends since we have joined and we continue to make more. It’s amazing how they can pull well over a hundred people together with things like a neighborhood clean up, participating in the annual St. Patrick’s Parade, the youth Gladiator Games and, not to mention, the annual, super fun Halloween party!
If you are not already a member of EMA, you should be. It’s a lifestyle choice. :)

A great martial arts school and has exercise classes for all ages. The owners are super friendly and create a family atmosphere. My son is in the teen program and loves it. He has gained such confidence and is taught obedience and discipline. My wife and I attend a fitness class and love it.

I can only rate their kids programs.
BACKGROUND — People argue that their discipline is better than another like — Karate is better than Tae Kwon Do etc… If someone invested 2 or 3 years in a system I’m betting they won’t think it was a bad choice. They will defend their choice to the end — bitter or not. However, most people don’t stick with it long enough to really learn the skills and values they are trying to teach you. So how do you choose? The teacher and the schools personality. You need to find a personality that matches your objectives. We have all seen the Karate Kid movie where the school was very aggressive and taught winning was everything — a classic example of a bad school — IMHO.
THE SCHOOL — Dave is the owner and is very personable. He is well rounded and makes sure the classes are hard & fun. The kids are challenged — sometimes pushed to their limits. This is a good thing — it teaches them that they are capable of more than they think. It also teaches them that if they can’t succeed the 1st time to keep trying and they can make the grade. It’s never about beating someone else but pushing yourself and learning your limits.
Kids ages 8 to 12 are offered 2 classes — Thai Kick Boxing and Ju Jit Su. 2/​3s of each class is spent on exercises and 1⁄3 learning new skills. They build a solid base in strength, endurance, speed and coordination etc. When they are ready they are moved to the next level for more work and more skills.
