Wazabi Sushi

Hamachi w/​Jalapeño, Cherry Blossom, Hulk, and tempura were delish! Great flavors! Great staff! They ran out if yellowtail and the chef personally came out to apologize and asked if we didn’t mind a substitution he’d recommend! The substitution was even better than the original!

Been on a sushi/​sashimi craze lately and decided to check this place out in our area.
I haven’t tried their sashimi/​chirashi, so I can’t speak for that, but here are the deets for their special rolls/​specials.
Ordered their hulk roll, ankimo special (monkfish liver), salmon collar (baked) and the Cosmo roll.
Hulk roll ($ 13.95): assorted fish wrapped with cucumber and no rice. While this dish was light and refreshing, it came in with only 5 pieces and way more cucumber than fish :(ratio of cucumber to fish was not satisfying.
Cosmo roll ($ 13.95): spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and topped with seared albacore and fried onions with a ponzu sauce. Has to be good right?! Wrong. The shrimp tempura’s batter was thick and soggy and def ruined the taste and texture of the rolls.
Ankimo special (about $ 9) monkfish liver sliced in rather thick pieces (like 5 pieces?) over a bed of thinly sliced radish and a ponzu sauce. The monkfish liver was super cold and still frozen in the middle. Bummer.
Salmon collar special: baked salmon collar and probably the best bang for your buck at only $ 5! While it was good, it could not make up for the other items on the menu.
Service was nice, but spotty. Took a while to take our order and get our food. A little sad to be writing this review (was hoping to find a gem in this area) but I hope the quality of the food from this place greatly improves.

We were in the area and decided to look for a good sushi spot to go to. The crunch roll, calamari, and rainbow row were very delicious. Give it a try!

I’ve been trying to locate a good sushi spot near home that is affordable and has decent quality sushi/​fish. I took advantage of the Happy Hour specials (back of menu) which our waitress mentioned later during our menu perusal. It was a Saturday so I double checked that Happy hours applied.
There were 2 in our party. We ordered a large bottle of Sapporo for $ 8 to share and a large hot sake to share. The waitress asked if we just wanted the pitcher for $ 10, but we didn’t feel like getting hammered at 6 pm so we stuck with the large bottle.
I chose 4 sushi items from menu D for $ 25. A lot of their modern sushi rolls had lots of that mayo sauce or eel sauce, so I opted for without. I chose the Rainbow Roll, Spicy Crunchy roll, another spicy one I forgot the name of, and asked for a recommendation for the 4^th. Waitress said that Cherry Blossom roll was popular, and I was leaning towards that one, so I opted for that without eel sauce.
The rolls came out 2 by 2. We gobbled up every single roll and were satisfied with the quantity and quality. Both of our favorites were the Rainbow Roll since I was in the mood for «refreshing» over multiple flavors. After a while the spicy rolls started to taste the same. The rolls were on the skinny side but that’s because rice was minimal. If you’re into sushi rolls with less rice, this is your spot!
The wait for food and drink was average. There was only 2 other small parties dining in at the time. Another party sat down next to us mid-​way through our meal. Women’s restroom was clean and well stocked, albeit awkwardly placed as dining patrons can see directly into the single restroom when the door is open (poor feng shui) and vice versa. Maybe a large screen panel offsetting the door/​entrance might help?
Overall a good experience and will return. We didn’t have room for dessert but there were photos of yummy looking desserts on the wall.

I don’t really write reviews but Wazabi’s excellent service compelled me to. In fact, after many years of using Unilocal,this is the 1^st review I’ve written for awhile. Wazabi is just that awesome! I’m impressed. Here’s why.
Everything we tried is delicious. From the Albacore Salad to the Quartet Roll to the Baked Scallop Cut Roll. And I was so happy that I told the waitress so. The only complaint I had was that the Salmon Skins in their Salmon Skin Hand Roll were «well done» (if you know what I mean). But it was a minor thing — no deal breaker for me. However, I was really surprised when they immediately deducted the hand roll price off the bill without my even asking just because I wasn’t satisfied with it. Now that what I call excellent service!!!

The people here are very nice and Wazabi has better vibes than the last restaurant. The menu is half off for the first month of the grand opening. Definitely should check it out for the first month and then come back if you like it.

This was the first time that we came here and I have to say that we will be back! The staff is friendly, the restaurant is clean, it wasn’t crowded, the happy hour prices were awesome, and best of all the sushi great!

We’ve tried dozens of sushi spots throughout Southern Cal during the last 25 years. My honey and I are sushi lovers and have hit the famous, infamous and unknown. From the exclusive and expensive spots where the chef refuses to make fancy rolls to the popular and trendy restaurants, our goal has always been to find great sushi in a comfortable environment.
Wazabi was a great find. Tucked in a small strip mall in a mostly residential area, it can be easily overlooked. But that would be a mistake. We tried 3 different rolls — all great. Fresh, delicious with beautiful presentation. They’ve got most of the standard rolls and some of their own creations, and their sashima (at least the albacore and their yellowtail) practically melts in your mouth. Our service was prompt, friendly, attentive without being instrusive and that was everyone, from wait staff to bussers to the chefs.
I highly recommend this spot — it’s new and I want to support it because I will be coming back frequently!

My first time here. Very satisfied with every dishes. And great services. The owner very friendly. High quality food. Love it.

So before I start offi need to point out that this place is very new, and it was not packed so I cannot base the service. But being that they were sorta empty service was great, staff was very a-​tentative to out needs. Sushi is a bit pricy and i think they should maybe invest in the plastic chopsticks. They make for a better rating experience. Onto the food I got hacienda roll which was the shit, a philly roll and a grenade which wasn’t too good. Overall k would come back d/​t exceptional service and alright tasting sushi. I hate to do this but I always compare sushi places and this is no (101 sushi roll and grill) but this place does deserve a solid 4 stars I do recommend this place. Oh it’s cool that you get. Free miso soup with Unilocal.Forgot to mention. They should really create a menu with pictures of the sushi not just a name with description

Meh–
i have been here twice, first time was decent enough to come back. Second time back we ordered Udon and few pieces of sushi and an eel roll. The broth for the udon was Miso Soup. Nope, just nope. Sushi was ok, nothing wow but the eel tasted bad and not fresh.
Service was odd. Walked in and seated ourselves. Waiter walked up to us and looked at us, no hello no nothing. Awkward much?
Will not be coming back.

I grew up minutes from here and have always seen the revolving door of restaurants here, but my dad wanted to give it a go so we tried it. The fish seems fresh and the staff is friendly. My gripe is that the fish isn’t sliced thinly enough. I don’t want to feel as if I am biting chunks of raw fish, and I felt that on a couple slices. The shishito pepper was also smothered in creamy sauce that was not appealing. We went during their soft opening (30% off) that made it a steal.

Amazing this place so good I don’t want anyone to know about this place, so I can keep it all to myself.

LUNCH SPECIALS they have some combos you can take advantage of. Ask for the salad dressing on the side because they GLOB it on

NOTE: there are signs around the restaurant that offer free gyoza, eggrolls, or ice cream if you write them a Unilocal review (at least it doesn’t ask for a minimum number of stars so you can still be honest)

First time stopping by this restaurant. They greeted me with enthusiastic attitudes in Japanese when i walked in. That’s something you don’t get to see a lot at other restaurants. The waitress recommended a seafood salad to me. It was a best seafood salad that I have had so far from many different Japanese restaurants. Their sauce that came with the salad was amazing.
I just needed something to end the night, so I ended up order Takoyaki. It was really tasty.
P. S. Don’t forget to order miso soup, too.

I will give this place two stars because it’s a new establishment (otherwise. rating would have been a 1)
Came in on a Sunday afternoon. Decided to try a new sushi spot and this place came up on Unilocal.30% off of everything? SOLD.
We came in and were sat promptly. We put our order in (instead of telling her, she wants you to write it down on the sushi sheet) and everything was fine.
What we ordered: Lunch combination with chicken katsu and sashimi and another Lunch combo with beef teriyaki and a California roll. We also got two handrolls on the side (BSC handroll and a Thousand Oaks handroll which was basically a shrimp tempura handroll)
Our food took FOREVER to come out first of all. When she brought out the combos, mine was missing the sashimi (which really should have came out first) and had inadvertently switched our orders. I tried the katsu and it was cold. not even joking — it felt like it had been sitting out for 20 minutes. It was not crispy — it was soggy. HORRIBLE. I also subbed for brown rice and she brought out white rice. She didn’t bring out the brown rice until the very end of the meal (but she comped it because it was her bad) The sashimi finally came out and it was pretty good. Probably the highlight of the meal.
When my handroll came out it had spicy tuna in it. It was basically a spicy tuna hand roll with a piece of shrimp tempura in it. I told the waitress and she said she would get it corrected. It came back 15 minutes later corrected but there was spicy tuna all over the shrimp tempura in my handroll. They basically took the shrimp tempura out of the previous handroll and stuck it in the new handroll they gave me. seriously? How can you serve food like that. it was super soggy and cold by the time it got to me — not to mention — covered in spicy tuna.
Probably will not come back here. They have signs all over the restaurant saying that if you leave a Unilocal review — they will give you free ice cream. I’m assuming this is why they have such high ratings on Unilocal

The Hulk roll is very good. it’s coloful and refreshing and tasty. hotate sushi is very fresh. Kids meal with chicken teriyaki and California roll and soup. My daughter loves it Yellow tail collar has good portion and cooked just right!
there’s 30% off now. Very good value for such good quality food.

Shockingly good Himachi. The best Himachi that I have had in the Rowland Heights/​Hacienda Heights area (although not as good as Japanese town). I don’t know if it’s a one time thing are if the yellowtail will be this consistently good, but my mouth was HAPPY tonight! 30% off regular priced items during their Grand Opening (excluding the Happy Hour and Lunch Specials). Large portions for the price. My $ 10 California Tempura roll was twice as big as expected. Good service.
I will definitely be back again soon.

I came with my girlfriend for an early dinner date. Everything we had was really fresh! Service was amazing!
My favorite was the cosmos roll and her favorite was quartet roll. We also had the ankimo special (monkfish liver) and finished off with the toro (tuna belly) sushi. Thank you chef ak!
