This year is the second time I came to get my hair straightened. I had an amazing experience last year.
Three years ago I came to Nob for a consultation but my hair had highlights, so he told me to come back in a year after my highlights grow out and my hair was in a better condition. I waited a year and that gave me chance to actually take care of my hair. I went back and was so glad that I waited. My results were excellent. My hair always looked absolutely perfect as if I just came back from a salon. I went for vacation and was at the beach and swimming all the time, but my hair didn’t need any blow drying or straightening. Needless to say that I was back after one year to get retouched and looked forward to the same experience.
My hair looks gorgeous and healthy. I recommended NHC to all my friends and would highly recommend it on Unilocal too!

I just finished getting my hair Japanese straightened and the results are impeccable. Nob is so humble and amazing. He is so gentle, and courteous, and amazing with hair. He is trained and knows his stuff. The location was clean, comfortable and inviting. Because he is so good, he gets booked quickly. I went in for a consultation and Nob told me that thermal reconditioning was definitely doable for my hair type. Super curly, over processed, dry and crinkly, turned into sleek smooth and amazing. Nob didn’t burn my head or scalp and was super gentle caring for my damaged ends. I loved it so much, my sister straightened her hair too the very next day. Same great results. The 2^nd and 3^rd day, my hair looked even better. Having struggled with curly crispy hair my whole life was a real struggle that no longer needs to happen thanks to Nob. He changed my life. In a good way.

I have no words but just AMAXING !!! Loved my experience here. I can see the perfection and the super results. I’d recommend everyone to come here for your hair needs. I know that I’m a customer for life for sure!!!

The Yuko hair straightening is the BEST! And Nobu is the ONLY one I trust to do this right! He is the Yuko expert! Totally worth making the drive to see him!

I wouldn’t recommend Michiko. I think the owner and other stylist are wonderful stylists themselves. They can provide excellent service with reasonable prices. I remember my cousin recommended Michiko once but it appears that she only preferred male customers and had an attitude with female customers. And her skill was just ok. I am glad that she went somewhere else. That means I can come back more often without having to see her attitudes.

Hidden gem… located next to a acupuncture and nail place… across from 99 cent store on gale ave. Call 2 weeks ahead to make appointment… he is pretty booked. Ring the door bell to go in. Nob is so nice and friendly. He really knows what he is doing when he cuts hair. Fast and precise. He is a funny guy and tries to get to know his customers. Speaks English pretty well, so it wasn’t hard to communicate like most hair salons. When i went in, i sat down and he asked me whether i wanted short or long hair. I asked for his opinion, and he tkld me long hair is better… short hair is boring imo haha. He has long hair himself! I told him i wanted more layers and wanted volume. He cut away and washed my hair (shampoo smelled so good). I sat back down on the chair, and he did some more trimming. Then he blew dry my hair and styled it wavy. I had no idea my hair could look so cute! My hair is usually straight, thin, fine, and boring –_​_​_​– love the haircut! I think i just found my new go-​to hair stylist! Can’t be more pleased with my new haircut! Will definitely be back.

I have been doing hair rebonding (terms use in the Philippines) for over 10 years now. I had my hair done in LA last 2010; and I was not happy at all, and of course, I paid top dollar for my long hair.
Hesitant as I was, I started doing my research, and came across Yuko Thermal Reconditioning. Needless to say, Hair by NHC was linked to it. I called Monday, but they were closed so I left a message and Tuesday I got a phone call from Nob. (They’re close every Tuesday as well, but Nob returned my call!)Very pleased with that
Anyway, my intention for leaving this review is to let you guys know that I am very pleased with Nob’s work when it comes to Yuko Thermal Reconditioning or also called Japanese Hair Straightening. He was extremely pleasant and very professional. The process was almost 4 hours, and he’s sense of humor kept me awake, lol. I highly recommend Nob to anyone that are planning to have their hair straightened, looks naturally straight, and super silky smooth. It might be pricy, BUT, Yuko TR is not ruining your hair instead it’s repairing your hair actually. Yes, you may pay cheaper on the other procedure (s), but it’s actually murdering your hair!
Nob, thank you for your work. I will definitely recommend you and I will surely see you again .

What can I say! I love Nob and how well he did the Japanese straightening on me! He made my dream come true! I now have straight silky straight hair! It was sooo worth price! I highly recommend Nob and all of his expertise. he truely is a genius and he definitely knows what he is doing! He’s a magician when it comes to the Japanese technique of straightening hair! I have an appt two weeks with the one and only Nob!

I first got my hair thermally reconditioned back in 2000. I went to
. They were ok, but somewhat burned my hair. Even so I liked the freedom of not having to blow dry my hair straight, so I continued going there for years. I stopped the japanese straightening about 5 years ago and cut my hair pretty short.
I tried a keratin treatment a couple of years ago, but didn’t like how my hair felt weighed down. After two kids and no time, I decided to try the japanese straightening again.
I went in for a consultation with Nob. He said I was a good candidate and I went back three weeks later to have my hair straightened. That was three months ago and I couldn’t be happier with my results. My hair naturally is thick, wavy, and slightly frizzy. I had to blow dry it for 45 minutes to get it super straight. With a new baby I don’t have the time, nor the energy to spend this much time on my hair anymore. Now, my hair air dries straight. It is silky and not damaged at all. If I want it to be stick straight, I spend five minutes flat ironing it.
Nob is very good at what he does. He is professional and very pleasant to deal with. His prices are good. He also recommends a good shampoo and conditioner to use with T. R hair. He gave me a lot of samples :)

If you are looking for a modern glam place, this is not the place for you, BUT, if you want the BEST hair straightening, then this is the ONLY place for you!
I’ve tried Brazilian Blowouts but they didn’t seem to last and I was disappointed. For about the same price, you can have Nobu straighten your hair and it will last and it is FLAWLESS for MONTHS (so far it has been 8.5 months). My friends could not believe the results!
My sister has had her hair straightened for years with Nobu and I finally decided to try it to save time and to look a bit nicer on a daily basis (with two young kids, I don’t have the time)
From drying and flat ironing my hair (which took me 45 minutes!), not to mention me hating swimming everyday with the kids in teh summer due to the frizz, I did not even have to dry my hair AT ALL after Nobu’s hair straightening and it looked PERFECT.
My hair stylist told me it was the absolute best quality hair straightening she has witnessed and told me to only go to Nobu. She said other people’s hair gets burnt or brittle, but mine was the most luxurious she had felt (even after a flat iron)
It took aobut 5 hours (my hair was about to my bra strap). Nobu said it lasts about 7 months, but mine is still straight after 8.5 months and I am going to try to hold off until the spring to get it straightened with him again. However, if you have thick course hair, you can start seeing the new growth. i could see it barely on the hair against my neck.
For the amount of time it saves and the way it looks, I would do this and recommend this to EVERYONE!!!

I decided to try thsi salon after reading all the reviews. Called them for an appt for a perm. I did receive an airwave perm which left my hair very soft and bouncy. However my hair looked nothing like the picture I brought in and my family couldn’t even tell that I got a perm. I haven’t had a perm in many years and have very healthy hair so I am going to take that into account.

I used to go for Michiko, but she’s at D2 in City of Industry! The couple that own the place wouldn’t give me her phone number.

I started coming to Nob from Texas back in 2003! After I researched TR online, ALL signs pointed to him being the BEST and most affordable. HE IS AMAZING! One time I had to go to someone In Texas… and she burned my hair and broke it off. I moved to CA shortly after that — which is great because I have been to Nob every time now!!! YAY!!! :) Just got my hair done today!!!

I’m such a fan of this place! It was hard to find, but they did such a great job with my hair and welcomed me as a newcomer.
I had Nob, and he is just so accommodating and friendly. He loves his job, and you can tell.
My advice– check it out!

I have been going to owner Nob since 2001. I found him after researching to find the best salon for thermal reconditioning (TR, aka Japanese hair straightening) in Southern California. Through my research, I learned that TR is a tricky process that has to be done absolutely correctly with the chemicals left on the hair for the least amount of time or your hair can be ruined. Nob had consistently the best results. He was also recommended by a TR specialist in Seattle. Before Nob will do TR on a customer, he schedules a consultation. When I had my consultation, Nob said I had to get my hair in better condition before he would do TR and he told me exactly what to do. It took 6 months to get my hair healthier but finally he did it; it was a life transformation. My formerly frizzy/​slightly curly hair became straight, shiny and silky, like a Pantene commercial. TR is permanent; you NEVER have to re-​touch the hair that has been processed. I go back once a year for a TR touch-​up to treat only the new growth. I used to spend hours with the hairdryer and brush to smooth my hair, only to go outside in the slighest humidity and poof! curly/​frizzy again. Not any more! TR was the best thing I ever did for myself. It’s wash, quick dry and go. Although I live close to the high-​end Beverly Hills and West Hollywood salons, I drive 25 miles to see Nob every 5 weeks for color, condition and cut. He really understands the chemistry of hair and how to keep it healthy and shiny even when the hair is highly processed. I am Caucasian and have sent other Caucasian and Hispanic friends who have had their hair TR’d by Nob; TR is not just for Asian hair. After knowing Nob for these many years, I have learned that the major TR product manufacturers send their prototype new TR products for Nob to demo, and Yuko sends some of their stylists to Nob to learn/​perfect their TR skills. People fly from other states and drive from San Francisco and San Diego to have Nob do their TR. Yet he is very down-​to-​earth and humble and his salon is very simple. Don’t be misled by the ordinary looking salon; he turns out gorgeous hair. Bonus: his prices are really reasonable. TR can cost up to $ 900; his price currently starts at $ 350. His color, condition and cut are also extremely reasonably priced.

My mother, sister and I have been going to this salon for over 20 years now. One of the owner/​stylist Hiromi is amazing. The three of us prefer short hairstyles and we’re Japanese and Hiromi knows how to style us perfectly.
I have personally gone through many, many styles over the years and she has been able to master and present to me my choice style-​of-​the-​moment in the perfect shape for my face. Including making me platinum blonde so that it looks clean and touchable, to really long hair so I can donate to Locks of Love. We’ve done this twice now and it’s always funny how my hair is too thick to cut in one go. Locks of Love prefer one pony tail, but we have to split it into mini bunches.
This salon is also amazingly affordable and clean and comfortable. If you don’t know what kind of new hair style you want, go early and peruse their dozens of hair magazines available.
Their salon is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, however they are open on weekends, unlike some places that close on Sundays, which never made sense to me.

Michiko is no longer with NHC. Now she is working at D2 Hair Design in City of Industry.

Michiko is the best hairstylist I’ve ever had! Can’t compare w/​any other hairstylist out there… I’m very fussy when it comes to hair. Michiko is very knowledgeable and tells you what looks good and what’s hot and old fashion. Her goal’s to make you look good and happy w/​your new hairstyle!

I went to Hair by NHC on a referral from a friend. She had her hair straightened here and it came out fabulous. Went to a consultation appointment with Nob to talk about doing japanese straightening on my thick hair. He gave me a great quote, explained everything in detail, and was super nice & personable. I set up an appointment and will be having it done in a couple of weeks. I will post an update after its done!
**UPDATE**
I I went to Hair by NHC on a recommendation from a friend (shes been going there for years). Nob was my stylist… OMG he is a hair genius! Picture a japanese Vidal Sasson complete with long hair and cowboy hat.
I have thick coarse hair… its not straight but not curly and it gets frizzy sometimes after I wash it. Not crazy frizzy, but still frizzy. Now the length of my hair was I guess mid butt and super thick. not just thick but i have a lot of hair… so for my hair it was a long process…5 hours… but again my hair is thick and long. But omg it was so worth it!
I LOOOVE MY NEW HAIR! It is super straight and beautiful! Its shiney and smooth… I dont have to blow dry or use that damn straightener anymore.
Its a small little place if you blink you will miss it, but everyone is so friendly and professional.
I will never go anywhere else to have my hair done.
