The food was great! The birria that I had was delicious! However, I wanted to warn travelers about this place. One of our servers brings me our bill that was a lot more than it should have been. She didn’t write any prices on the bill, just what I had ordered. I had to ask her why it was so much as I knew she overcharged me because I knew the prices of what I ordered and it was considerably less. I ask her nicely to explain. She tries to blow me off by saying, I’m really busy.” I told her I was busy too and I wanted an explanation. She grabbed a calculator… I knew we had a problem when the first thing she punched in was more than the menu said. She punched in our other 2 entrees, still not even close to the amount of the final bill. She looked worried that it wasn’t going to add up to what she had just wrote on my bill…, Then she tells me $ 9.99 for a kids quesadilla. $ 10 for one tortilla with some cheese, folded in half!). Noticing that she was still short of the amount of the final bill she says, we charge for the tortillas(even though she didn’t tell me how much). She was having a really hard time adding it up again. I thought if she was honest, it would be easier to add up to the right price. It’s hard though if you are trying to remember the prices you just made up. It was unfortunate. Like my wife said, «if it looks like you have money, you better watch out!»

Casual, low key, local eatery with good, affordable, authentic Mexican grub. Chili Verde had just the right amount of heat for this weak-kneed gringo. Rice was fluffy, not dry and the avocado on the small plate salad was a nice touch. Not eloquent, but you won’t be disappointed.

Good Carnitas are hard to find… And they have it! :) Place does not look like much, but the food is truly authentic and delicious! Guadalupe is not necessarily a «destination» but the carnitas of this place should be enough to warrant a detour!

This place is where my family and myself stop at almost every time we take our trips up in the Central Coast. We pass through Guadalupe a lot on our way to San Luis Obispo and of course, many of the place here are hole in a wall places. We found this place several years ago and I would say it is one of the best Mexican food joints in the state! However, I give it a four stars since it is a bit pricey, but I think it is worth it. These people do cook their food fresh and from scratch. They do have a decent ambiance and it is surely a decent place to eat. I have tasted their carne asada, their tacos, and their carnitas, and it is delicious! They do sometimes make their tortillas from scratch, but when they run out, they use the one from the package. In any case, if you are taking your time to go on SR-1, then this is a must on your trip here if you are craving for Mexican food!
