Specialties
Our cat boarding facilities are located within our home so they are not left alone at night or on weekends. They have easy access to veterinary care if necessary, at the Groton Veterinary Hospital on the premises. There are no dogs to upset the cats and if any boarders are in renal failure, have allergies or arthritis, are diabetic, require fluids or are on dietary supplements we can administer the necessary medications at the appropriate times and closely monitor their status. You can visit our website at www. cat-boarding.com or call 978−448−2722 for veterinary services or to get additional boarding information.
History
Established in 1977.
My wife is a veterinarian with a BS (Penn St), MS (Mich St), and a VMD from the Univ of Penn. When we first opened, she was one of the few women «allowed» to get a degree in veterinary medicine. Now most vet schools graduate around 75% women.
She wanted to remodel an antique barn, which we found in Groton, and put her practice inside. She won a national design award from Veterinary Economics magazine for her effort.
I always loved cats and that was part 2 of our plan– to board cats in our house. The barn and house were both built in 1750 so it took a bit of work to finish remodeling and restoring so the boarding is now divided between my office (as bookkeeper for the hospital) and an adjacent room we call the cat room.
When I first opened, I was charging $ 3.00/night/cat– I’ve come a long way since then. Our fees have gone up, I’ve added handicapped units, and done exhaustive feeding trials with many different cat foods to find out what they will eat if they’re fussy or stressed.
