This was my first visit here. Sesame chicken was good. Light sauce and breaking. I ordered pork fried rice and it was very dry, especially the pork. Bean sprout egg roll was decent. One downfall about this place is I had to order everything separate. There are no combinations after a certain time. Overall the food was decent the best chicken I’ve found in the area so far.

It was just okay and we’ve gone there a few times. Hard to find decent Chinese in Grosse Pointe. This will be our last time going since my husband and I got food poisoning. You’ve been warned.

Been coming here for 10+ years and have never been disappointed. Family owned business that has had the same ownership since it started. The food is exceptional! I now live in the Bay Area and struggle to find a place this good. I wish they would open up shop in San Francisco.

I ordered take out for my husband and I after a long day of yard work — we wanted Chinese, and we’re still trying all the places in the hood. Summer Palace was closed for summer break, so I ordered from Wan Kow — two lunch specials that came with an egg roll, plain fried rice, and the entrée. We chose Kung pao chicken and General Tso’s chicken. To start, I immediately stuffed the egg roll into my mouth — it was almost like I was on auto pilot because I was really hungry. I was immediately disappointed — it was like a gnarly-beansprout chimichanga. I wish I took a picture. Well, that was my last bite of the chimichanga. The entrees faired a bit better, the highlight being the General Tso’s — typical Michigan American Chinese style — chicken nuggets smothered in sweet sauce. The flavors were great. The kung pao was not good — overcooked, under-spiced. The fried rice was very dry. Overall, we spent about $ 23, and we won’t be going back.

This Chinese restaurant has absolutely the best food of all the Chinese restaurants I have ever been to in my 62 years of life. You will not be disappointed by their food. Everything I or my wife has had here was delicious. No wonder they have been in business as long as they have.

Being apart of a family who’s been coming here since before I was born, I vouch that this is the best Chinese take-out restaurant in town. It’s been under the same ownership for over 50 years, Rose and Margaret are incredible, hard-working owners! Once upon a time I worked here as a cashier, and they allowed us to try many dishes during our break. You can’t go wrong with the fried rice, the crab rangoon is delectable and the sweet and sour chicken? OMG… Food coma! The pick-up time can be over an hour, especially during the weekend, but I promise you it’s worth the wait!

I give 3 stars for the test of the food, it was nice .But i saw A hair in the salad, something i did not expected from them. Plus the place is best for take away not to eat inside!! specially for a family with kids!! it is so so small

My husband and I have tried this place 3 times and each time it gets worse. Blech. We tried several options on the menu – sweet and sour chicken, broccoli and beef, orange chicken, lo mein, fried rice. We always ended up just throwing out whatever was left over. Being a military family and having lived all over the US, Michigan has the WORST American Chinese food I’ve ever had and this restaurant is just one example.

I grew up in GP, but it was only on a recent trip back to visit family from New York that I discovered Wan Kow. Bless you little Unilocal apparatus. They’ve been right there on Mack Ave. since 1958. Carry out only. Doesn’t look like any remodeling has taken place since they first opened but the place is neat as a pin. In placing my order by phone, your only option, I was asked to repeat some things and sometimes more than once. Then the whole order was read back to me when I said«that’s it». It took time, but these measures get your order right. And, as it turns out, the order taker is a sweet little older lady. This is old school Cantonese. That means egg rolls with bean sprouts, not cabbage which I prefer and a thinner, tangy as opposed to gelatinous duck sauce. The Almond Chicken is moist on the inside, crisp on the outside and it keeps so because the sauce comes on the side. I can also vouch for the Shrimp Egg Foo Young.

I lived in a big city, where delicious food is abundant, prior to moving to the Pointes, and have been trying to find a Chinese restaurant that would meet me skewed standards. This restaurant did the trick. flavorful and not too greasy. I will definitely order from here again.

Very good superb Chinese food! I loved it and so did my husband and kids. It’s hard to get my kids to like anything and they gobbled the food up and asked for seconds! Definitely recommend.

Fresh and big portions! I use to get carryout from here once a week when I lived in Grosse Pointe. I’m a big fan of their fried rice, chicken chow mein, chicken lo mein, sweet and sour chicken and pepper steak.

The worst Chinese food I have had tasteless and greasy overcooked. After reading the reviews I thought I would give it a go, I guess these people had never had real Chinese food. This place makes airports, strip malls and Florida seem gourmet. I really hate to pan a place this bad but it was truly terrible. Even the kids were disappointed. This a true avoid. If I could give 0 stars I would.

This is my favorite American/Chinese food place and I’ve been to many. They have always been friendly. 99% of the time the service is crazy fast. Thanks for all the carry out dinners.

Man… what I would do to have a place like this in South Florida… I suppose I took it for granted when I lived in MI, since good chinese is extremely hard to come by for me these days. But this place was, and still is, the BEST chinese of all time. Oddly enough, the first job I ever had was working here. The little old lady Rose was very sweet to me and gave me a free meal on every shift(even though it was just an after school gig I did for like 20 hours a week when I was 14) I would strongly recommend General Tao, Sesame, the egg rolls and eggdrop soup but you MUST get the Almond Bonless Chicken. This is by far my favorite dish and it doesn’t exist in Florida.(even if it did I’m certain it wouldn’t taste the same) This place is carry-out only though, so don’t try to bring the family for a sit-down experience. If you want delivery, you will actually use a 3rd party service called ‘Wok-2-You’ The food is fast, delicious and if you’re lucky you will get to meet Rose. My quest continues for good chinese of this caliber in the Ft. Lauderdale area, please message me if you know a place.

I would rate this place between 2 and 3 stars. I give it 3 stars because my coworkers really love this place and usually get the almond chicken and sweet and sour chicken(I uploaded the pics of their items). I tried a taste of each and was not fond of it. As for me, I’ve tasted better… The sweet and sour sauce was very different from what I’m used to. Usually, the sauce is red but this sauce was an orange-brown color? I ordered the chinese dumplings or potstickers(can’t remember what they called them on the menu) and they were not good at all. Would’ve been better if they fried them in some oil or something similar. just tasted bland and dry. The sauce they give you to dip them in is not the usual either. Used to having a citrus soy sauce with it. Their sauce was more like the duck sauce you get with egg rolls. My dish was the sesame chicken and it was ok but I’ve definitely had better. I saw the sign mentioned Cantonese. I guess this could be why I didn’t enjoy it since I was expecting a different type/region of Chinese food…

It took an entire year, but I FINALLY found my go-to Chinese food joint in Grosse Pointe. The place may not be much to look at(the lobby area is eerily reminiscent of an abandoned dry cleaning operation), but the quality of the food is exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate Chinese dishes(Sesame and Sweet and Sour Chicken) that aren’t smothered in sauce and still have a bit of crunch to them. — Wan Kow does this sauce-to-food ratio just about perfectly. — Their egg rolls are some of the best I’ve had and the Wonton soup is A-OK! That’s really the ABCs of decent Chinese food in my book. Like Jack L. stated below, it is carry-out only. The little old lady who works the counter is super slow, but she’s adorable, so it doesn’t really matter. (Mildly exciting extra credit points: Every time I get carry-out from here, I end up singing«Everybody Wan Kow tonight!» for the remainder of the evening. — It’s a delight for me, but maybe not so much for my dining companions. :))
