Peters A H Funeral Services

Our experience was not very good and we would not recommend AH PETERS to anyone in the future. Our memorial celebration was scheduled over 2 weeks in advance during the holidays, and the director-​in-​training assigned to us didn’t bother to notify our celebrant that we had special reading requests at all (we would have done so ourselves but were assured it was being handled). Because this was not done, a family member had to take time out of our one hour family hour just minutes prior to the ceremony to meet with him because that information was never communicated — unacceptable. Peters also scheduled another ceremony right in front of ours that ran over their alloted time, so our use of the facilities was cut short by about 10 minutes while the previous guests were filing through and out. And, to make matters even worse, the musicians from the previous ceremony camped out in our room waiting for a ride and would not leave. There was no acknowledgement or intervention by any staff member to remove these individuals from our room — again, unacceptable. In fact, we were never approached to make sure everything was handled correctly until it was all over.
In addition, a week or so after the ceremony, we were sent a bill indicating that we had not paid the organist, and that we owed $ 100. We explained that we had paid this individual directly on that day and that we should not have been billed (and said organist had cashed the check the same day as the ceremony!) It wasn’t until after we attempted to present the staff member with a copy of the cancelled check that he relented.
For what we paid for the service and use of their facilities, we were completely disappointed.

I cannot believe some of the things I am reading here… Peters is one of 2 very good funeral homes in the Grosse Pointes. My family have used their services since the 80’s, and since then they have handled services for my father, grandmother and grandfather and a great uncle. The staff are gracious and sympathetic, and the work they’ll do is impressive. When my father died, the Peters staff worked tirelessly to accommodate our needs. I’d use them again without a moment’s hesitation.

My experience was terrible. The staff was extremely rude. The facility was decorated nice, that’s why I’m giving 1 star. Other than that, I have many misgivings. 1. When we came in to see my relative, there was no one at the front lobby. We waited for what seemed like hours. Very nerve racking when you don’t know where to go in a funeral home. When the staff finally showed, I mentioned the lack of promptness and the greeter acted extremely rude about it telling me they were busy, his manager was on the phone, etc. it was more his tone. 2. The deceased relative looked horrible. Again I asked if anything could be done and was given a laugh! The worker told me «that’s as good as it gets». After spending big bucks, I would expect a better answer. 3. Mass cards were wrong. 4. After checking after the funeral and calling around, I realized I had paid way too much for the casket. Other funeral homes in the metro area charged $ 1500 to 2000 less… for the identical casket. I mean the same EXACT casket! Never will I step foot I the establishment again. When I need a funeral home soon for my ailing mother, I WILL NEVER go there again!

My familys experience here was so bad we will definitely not be using their services again.
We had originally booked a room and at the last minute they asked us if we would mind switching since there was another family interested in that room.
We agreed and asked if we would still have tables and ample space for our guests. They assured us we would.
We showed up to set up and there were no tables for food. We literally had to go home get a table and set it up. We did this as they watched us.
They said they would offer water — but only brought 6 mini waiter bottles. We had to repeatedly ask them to bring more.
Finally, they even asked us if we would SHARE A ROOM WITH ANOTHER FAMILY!!! Who does that? After paying over 5,000 for a few hours, you would think we would have our own space.
There is a huge opportunity here for another funeral home to come in and show people what good service really looks like.

Our family has quite the history with A H Peters. My Great Grandmothers viewing was held there, and my great Uncle proudly worked there for many years.
When my Great Uncle passed recently, it was obvious where the viewing would be held. The staff at A H Peters provided consummate professionalism and dignity, tempered with sympathy and sensitivity in the perfect balance. The facilities themselves are lovely– tastefully decorated without being garish or tacky. Every detail they attended to for the viewing was absolutely perfect. The location is convenient– not far at all from 94, Lakeshore Drive, as well as a plethora of restaurants and diners.
I can’t thank them enough for how well they treated out family and friends in our time of grief, and highly recommend their services to anyone.
