The Hoppy Brewer

One of our favorite date night spots. Lots of restaurants to choose from, bring in some food and enjoy a pint of two.

Great place to hang out, especially outside in the summer. Appreciate their willingness to let people bring in food from other restaurants. Saves them from having to prepare food, and gives Gresham that good community feel by allowing guests to enjoy several local businesses in one evening. Great tap list and friendly staff too.

I would give them a 5, but I feel there is always room for improvement.
In the heart of old town Gresham, Great atmosphere, Great beer section, and stuff to do your own brew.

Love this place. Awesome beer selection with rotating taps. Friendly employees. Great bands come play. Cute atmosphere. Food accessible next store. If your a beer lover, you have to try this place! :-)

Can I just start out by saying «THANK YOU» to The Hoppy Brewer!!! Not only do you have a WONDERFUL tap selection — apparently — you also have home brewing supplies!!!
Thank you for NOT having EVERY TAP a crappy IPA or other «Beer-​Vana» swill that most of the pubs & breweries serve in the greater PDX area!!!
Thank you for serving Belgium, German, Stout & Porter styles.
We APPRECIATE you serving (MY all-​time FAV!) Weihenstephaner VITUS!!! It was rated THE BEST BEER IN THE WORLD in 2009…
While you do have some hoppy taps, you have devoted ample pour-​space to other options.
While we were there, we tried: Quadrophenia, Ovila Abby Quad, Vollbier Helles, Hell Pony Maibock, and the Artic Devil Barley Wine. While some of our choices were better than others in taste, complexity and body, all were excellent choices.
The cost of these beers are a little more on the pricey side ($ 5 — $ 9.50 per pour) — but you get what you pay for!!!
We also had some peanuts… WHICH I THOUGHT WERE COMPLIMENTARY… SURPRISE!!! The (rather small!) bowl of peanuts is $ 2.
What also made this an enjoyable experience was the fact that you could order food from the neighbor The Local Cow and eat on the patio in the middle (FYI: THERE ARE NO KIDS ALLOWED in the patio area).
The staff is friendly & knowledgeable, the place is fresh, clean and well-​managed!!!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND The Hoppy Brewer & The Local Cow. I also look forward to many more date-​nights in the future with my husband!!!

To the people who have reviewed AND complained about the TABLES NOT BEING CLEANED and WAITED ON IN THE BEER GARDEN… Order at the counters (in either place!!!) eat/​drink in the middle AND BUS YOUR OWN DAMN TABLES!!! Neither place is here to be subservient to you or your needs!!! Get off your ass and stop treating everyone like they are your servants!!! Rate the places on their food & beverages — not on how well you’ve been treated and how quickly you were acknowledged!

This place is great! They have a wonderful selection on tap, great home brewing materials and supplies for your latest home brew, a wonderful selection of bottles to take home (even some German beers we haven’t seen in very many places!!!). The Local Cow is next door and they will deliver food to you while you are in the beer garden. We loved the laid back atmosphere and they have events quite often. We will be back again! So happy to see something like this in our neighborhood!

I wish I still lived in town. This place has evolved so much in the past few years, and keeps getting better and better! The beer selection is outstanding, I can’t even express how nice it is to have a good selection of Belgian beers on tap, as well as ipas, stouts, porters, lagers, and everything else. I am so happy you guys have made it, and I am glad I got to watch you grow!

The adult beverage selection (of beers and some wines) was enormous. They host sellers every other night. The staff was very attentive. Although they have no food at Hoppy Brewer they are friendly with The Local Cow next door who has excellent food and they’ll deliver to you in the outside seating area between both buildings. A great, quiet, fun atmosphere for any occasion.

My all time favorite hang out! My boyfriend & I come here almost every day, and the crew knows us by name! Aside from all that, the 28 rotating taps always keep you entertained, there’s live music most Saturday’s, great food in the area that you can bring into Hoppy, a beautiful patio, & a ton of home brew stuff! I could go on, but go check it out for yourself~

For Gresham, this place gets 5 stars. It’s no Belmont Station, but this isn’t Portland. We come here often for the solid tap selection. They allow our toddler to hang too, which makes this place even better for us breeders. We grab some grub from the Local Cow next door, and it makes for a nice lunch date with the fam. When we’re Kid-​less it’s nice to sit out on the patio and enjoy our beer and burgers.

We stumbled on the place while eating next door at the Local Cow. One business doesn’t have a alcohol license, one doesn’t serve food, so they work together. We ordered food at the Local Cow, then came over to the Hoppy Brewer and ordered our drinks. The food was brought over when it was ready. Worked awesome. Really good beer list, but wished they had more local beers.

They always have new beers, so I like to come and try the new ones. Everyone I’ve tried is at least good, but mostly they’re closer to excellent. I honestly could never pick a favorite either, because they have so many selections that it would be like picking a favorite food of all the foods in the world.
The staff is really friendly and helpful and can answer questions about the distinctions in the beers and techniques on home brewing. All their brews are made with the materials in their home brewing kits, so it’s like getting a sense of what you could make at home (if you had their brewing expertise).
I bought my first home brew kit here and honestly failed miserably, so I gave it as a Christmas gift to a buddy who loves to home brew. I wish they would do home brewing classes in the beer garden so I could learn. Until then, I’ll continue to buy their ready-​made beers. It’s always better than what I could find somewhere else on tap or make myself, that’s for sure.

Love my little local Brew/​Tap house. People are great and atmosphere is wonderful! Never a bad crowd… and a great outdoor patio in the summer.

Still my favorite beer joint out here in the burbs. But now, new and improved as they’ve added taps and now have 28 choices of goodness. Woop!

Walked through the Gresham Arts Festival on Saturday and my husband couldn’t wait to get a cold beer at the Hoppy Brewer. It was a warm afternoon and two of the outside tables were occupied, the rest hadn’t been cleaned. We sat down anyway, assuming with the Art Festival, they would come by any time to keep those tables clean. After 10 minutes, no one came by to clean the table or ask us for our order, so we moved inside hoping it would be better. No such luck. Waited another 10 minutes (silly us!) and still no one even acknowledged us. In the words of my husband, this is «A Miss» on their part. As busy as the downtown Gresham area was that day, you would have thought they would have loved to have all that business. Guess not! There were two guys standing at the counter on the supply side and one guy on the beer side, all standing around chatting.
We walked across the street to the Billy Bob’s patio area and had a beer within 5 minutes. Sorry Hoppy Brewer… doesn’t feel like you want our business!

Super sweet bottle/​homebrew shop. My wife and I visited from the east coast exclusively for hop season in the area. Stopped by and checked out the homebrew shop and moseyed to the bottle shop and had a pint of homebrew. Low key and relaxing, owner was friendly and inviting, too bad we live 3000 miles away…

Killer selection of draft and bottled beers from craft breweries in Oregon!
As most know, there’s a huge cult craft beer scene in Oregon. I’ll be honest, this was my sixth trip to the Portland area and the first time I specifically sought out some of my favorite breweries and brewpubs. Prior visits have always been oriented around exploring all the wonderful Burgundian wine varietals in Willamette.
However, this trip I wanted to try out some big name breweries as well as some of the hole-​in-​the-​wall places, such as The Hoppy Brewer in the tiny little suburb of Gresham, OR. About a 20 minute drive east of Portland.
They’ve got a few of their own brews on tap as well as rotating taps with tons of other Oregon beers and elsewhere. My personal favorite was the Workhorse IPA from Laurelwood Brewing Co. in Portland. If what’s on draft doesn’t suit your fancy, check out the stocked racks and fridges packed with bottles from just about every craft brewery around.
They’ve also got a huge selection of hops/​malts/​barleys available for purchase in the adjacent beer store next door! I see why there’s a huge cult beer scene going on here now. I don’t have the foggiest idea of where to find a selection like they had here in LA.
Just a note, they don’t have any food here but you can order from the farm to market «The Local Cow» restaurant next door — they will even deliver it to your table at The Hoppy Brewer.

Love the feel/​vibe of the place. We came in to fill our growlers and David the staff was so knowledgeable and helped us figure out what we wanted according to taste. Love the Hopigon and Deschutes. Extremely informative in helping us set up our home brewing.

Craft can and tap selection was what gives this 2 stars. The staff… sorry… the OWNER acted like our presence was the greatest inconvenience he’d had that day. While he obliged to answer a couple questions about the taps he had, he mostly made us feel like we’d just ruined his day by darkening his door step.
Not likely to be back.

Beer garden! Nice combo! It’s a place where you can buy ingredients to make your own beer, or where you can purchase some unusual beers you might not find in a grocery store.
They don’t serve food but they don’t mind if you order from Local Cow next door. They will even deliver it right over to you. You can also just bring your own food into the garden area. They don’t mind.
And then on a sunny day, you can head yourself outside and sit for a spell while you drink your hoppy brew. And you can bring your dog!
