Gresham Modern Dentistry and Orthodontics

I am new to the Portland area and was looking for a new dentist. I signed up for their offer to have a cleaning, exam and X-​rays for $ 59. I thought this would be a great way to evaluate a new office. I have had excellent dental care all my life with cleanings every 6 months. I haven’t had any fillings or decay for about 10 years. I was truly stunned at how things unfolded. First off, the X-​rays took over an hour! After an hour and 15 min I finally said «that’s enough pictures we need to get the cleaning started.» Then the dentist comes in and tells me that she «has no hygienist today so she herself will do the cleaning.» I found that odd, can’t recall the last time a dentist did the teeth cleaning. Well, the cleaning was a 10 min procedure. In the past even with ultrasonic cleaning with subsequent scraping around each tooth the cleaning took at least an hour. And, during it I was encouraged to pay extra for various things like fluoride, some cancer screening thing using a penlight and on and on. I sad no thanks to all of that. After this brief cleaning and a look at the numerous X-​rays the dentist said at least 3 times «your teeth are in very good condition» and could find no decay in my mouth. She almost seemed disappointed that there was no work to be done. Then, she started to urge me to replace all the gold crowns in my mouth! One in particular she said was going to fail soon. Actually, every dentist I have had over the past 13 years said the tooth was intact and just needed to be carefully watched. I told her I would think it over, that I do not go about major dental procedures impulsively. Then she asked me if a financial person could come in and talk to me about the cost. I said NO. Next thing I know the financial person comes into the room anyway and starts talking to me like a used car salesman, offering me discounts and $ 500 off if I do it before a certain date! I was shocked. I have never seen a dental group so pushy and hungry for work as this place was. But the classic statement to me was when the dentist said «Some patients are even electing to have all of their silver fillings removed and replaced with gold crowns NOW before they run into problems down the road.» Who are these people? Someone would actually sign up to have multiple fillings removed and replaced with gold before there is any decay? Unbelievable. And, very very desperate for work and income for the office. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough! Several days later in the mail I received ANOTHER offer from them to have the crown done at an even cheaper amount if I do it in the next 2 weeks! Wow, this is so unprofessional. New patients please be on guard.

Just went there for what I was told, a cleaning. There was no cleaning. Just a run down of the condition of my mouth. They took several x-​rays, and poked around in my mouth for 1.5 hours only to walk out with no cleaning. I may be willing to listen to what they had to say in regards to treatment for my teeth, but after being told that I would get a cleaning and then walk about with nothing only to have to return to get a cleaning that will cost $ 250+? NO thanks. Your communication with patients regarding the procedures are terrible. Will be taking my business elsewhere, along with copies of the bazillion X-​rays they just took.

Well, I will say that the office manager finally contacted me (by email) after I wrote my first 2 reviews (coincedence??).
She did go above and beyond to refund the charges that were not supposed to be paid by my insurance. She followed up to make sure I received the check and cancelled my payment arrangements until the account was settled completely. It was very awesome of her to see it through and take care of us.
BUT…I still feel like it could’ve been a much simpler ordeal if they would’ve just fixed the insurance billing in the first place. It took a lot of stress and persistence on my part to make things right, and I believe that is the only reason that I got a good outcome.
