What took me to Eastside in the first place was rental band equipment for the kids middle school band, but now that we no longer rent but own, we still come here for repair, tune-ups and advise. They take great care of everyone that walks in the store during the year. It can be very hectic there at the beginning and end of the school years. They are very knowledgeable and if the person that is helping you doesn’t know, someone else working there will. The repair work is very good and quick. They have even done minor repairs right at the counter while i wait. All the instruments we own(4 horns) are from ebay and pawn shops, and Eastside had made them playable and keeps them that way while the kid abuses them on a regular basis. They have tons of guitars and drums for the non school band needs.

I went in a couple of weeks ago to price and look at their ukulele selection. The man who helped me was very friendly and helpful and walked me through the differences between the different types of ukuleles. Their prices were really great and all of the staff was very friendly and helpful. We spent 20 minutes talking about the history of the saxophone with one guy who worked in the back. It was really great. I went in a few days ago and purchased my ukulele and a wall hook to hang it on. Wonderful service and great prices!

I thought I had found my guitar at this other guitar store but nooooo I had to come in to this place where they had a sale. And the guitar that I really wanted, but did not know when I bought the other one earlier somewhere else, was hanging up — enticing me to just touch it once, just strum it ever so slightly. It was smaller and could fit in to my arms so much better. The other guitar was a buxom blonde compared to this one. Nothing wrong with that by any means, but this one was more my type. I bought it and for a little while I had 2 guitars. I was THAT cool! Eastside has been here for a good while now in our part of town. And they are experts in their instruments. There’s one older gentleman, Harry who’s got long greyish hair who will bend your ear and tell you so much about music, and musicians, and instruments, and give you a music history lesson. And you will be eager to hear more. The gentleman that helped me with my guitar was also very wise and gave me quite a few points on my guitar, and types of strings, and how they are made. There’s no hard sell here either. They are not working on commission. They do seem to love what they are doing nonetheless. The place is well organized and clean which makes it all the more easier to relax and find what you are looking for, or what you did not know you were looking for.

They have such a great section of children’s instruments. I brought home some rhythm sticks and hand bells for our toddler, who loves them. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and offered great customer service to everyone in the building. There didn’t seem to be anyone waiting for service, even though they were pretty busy.

I dropped in last week to pick up a Harmon mute for my trumpet. Harry updated my knowledge by telling me the history of the mute — created by a trumpeter, stolen by a gangster and sold to the Harmon company. He shares an anecdote about classical trumpeters who sent their mutes clanging onto the stage at a particularly quite moment in the music to punctuate their distain for the conductor. Harry has a story for everything. I ask if he had any used flugelhorns, and he enriched my world once again with stories of Clark Terry and the French flugelhorn favored by the jazz greats. I like the place because I’m not greeted by some guy working a job — I’m greeted by Harry.
