History

Established in 2007.

Proximity Hotel and Print Works Bistro are named for two cotton mills in Greensboro. These mills were part of Cone Mills, with more than a century of history in the textile industry. Cone Mills was known as the world’s largest manufacturer of denim fabric and the United States’ largest printer of home-​furnishings fabrics. Started by two brothers with a background in wholesale groceries, Cone grew steadily throughout its early years, concentrating on the manufacture of denim for work clothes.

The Proximity Hotel is privately held, and it is operated by Quaintance-​Weaver Restaurants & Hotels. Mike Weaver and Dennis Quaintance formed Quaintance-​Weaver Restaurants in April of 1988 and opened their first restaurant in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1989 called Lucky 32. They started the company because they are good friends and wanted to be in business together, and because they believe that providing the services embodied in our mission will result in a successful company.

Dennis and Mike are partners; Dennis plays point with the operations of Quaintance-​Weaver and Mike contributes in all matters. Mike is also the Chairman of Weaver Investment Company and does a lot of volunteer work.

The company has evolved over the years to become Quaintance-​Weaver Restaurants & Hotels. The family now includes Lucky 32 in Cary, along with five businesses in Greensboro: Lucky 32, Green Valley Grill, O. Henry Hotel, Proximity Hotel and Print Works Bistro.

We checked in last night after a horrible experience at the Clarion by the Greensboro airport. The staff here are amazingly nice accommodations are great. They are very modern and comfortable. The amenities are numerous, clean and nice. They are also very assessable. Room service for breakfast was amazing. Some of the best French toast eggs and bacon that I’ve had. The fresh squeezed orange juice topped it all off nicely.

Outstanding! They thought of everything! My husband got the weekend romance package for our anniversary. Wine, truffles, and the best part was the Michael buble cd and sound system in the room. We also got a discount at the print works restaurant, which is my favorite? Husband ‘s only comment was that the tv could have been bigger, but that’s not a negative for me. Loved it, this may be an annual event for all future anniversaries?

If you are ever in Greensboro stay here!!! It is truly a unique experience. Out room was nothing like we had ever stayed in before. One sees so many neat items and layouts in your room that you begin to think how you might incorporate into your home. Everything is first class. They do an outstanding job of both hiring and training their employees who go above and beyond. Just read the other reviews. Everyone loves this place. It is not cheap, BUT if you stay there once and you are back in Greensboro you WILL stay there.

A stellar experience at Proximity. We enjoyed the hotel and Print Works Bistro over a six day stay. A unique, relaxing hotel experience. The staff is spectacular. Of specific note, Ivey Ghee was truly the most engaging, gracious and helpful person going the extra distance to make our stay the best. Thank you Ivey! If coming to Greensboro, stay at Proximity. You will find it to be the best.

I would be giving this a 4 star review if it wasn’t for the bathrooms in the double bed rooms. We shared a room with a couple for weekend and the bathrooms door was a sliding door with a lot of gaps such that you can hear EVERYTHING that’s going on in the bathroom. As people who like privacy in there it was a problem that caused all of us to feel uncomfortable in the bathroom. I will say that the rest of the hotel was nice and clean and hospitable. If you get a room with one bed I would recommend but not the double beds! That said, the hotel was very nice and clean. We loved the water and drinks in the common area (so you don’t have to buy the overpriced water bottles at most hotels). The food is also fantastic!

Stayed at Proximity over Valentine’s Day weekend and it did not disappoint! I love the industrial, modern, but still cozy vibe of the place. The room we stayed in was pretty spacious and had a ton of seating options. The bed was comfortable although I always hope for a big fluffy comforter which they did not have. On to that bathroom! The tub was awesome. It was super deep and filled up really quickly. I also loved that the tub wall opened up so you could relax in the tub while watching TV. The bath products are Aveda which is always a plus, although I do wish they included bubble bath in the lineup as well.
Room service took about 50 minutes for breakfast. Which I guess is to be expected on a Sunday morning. The food is from the bistro so you know it will arrive pretty tasty. Would love to have a staycation here again!

Proximity puts the «green» in Greensboro.
This is my favorite place to stay when I’m in town. There’s plenty of parking, and the hotel is modern, clean, chic but not too fussy and frilly. But what I love most about this hotel is that it’s a totally «green» hotel, without it infringing upon the customer’s lux experiences. It’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) with over 70 different sustainable practices exercised both in development and daily execution.
It’s also always very peaceful. I never hear a ton of noise from other guests or lively activity in the common areas, so if you’re looking for a little serenity I think you’ll find it here. (Although, I’ve never stayed her over the weekend.)
Depending on the seasonal rates and what you’re looking to spend, I’d definitely suggest getting a room with the spa bath if you’re looking for a little extra space and relaxation. The bathrooms are beautiful and the tubs deep, with a nice little window that looks out onto the the rest of the room.
Seems as though the rates have gone up a bit compared to when I first started staying here, but I can often find deals so still always make the attempt to book.
I prefer Proximity just a bit more than the O’Henry just because I love the modern design, but would otherwise rate them comparably. However, you cant really go wrong with either hotel.

The hotel is beautiful. Layout a bit strange. Pool is simply an afterthought of the exercise room which is lacking for the price of this hotel. Stayed two nights hoping for some relaxation and late morning sleep. Imagine our surprise when we got a 6am wake up call we did NOT request. Accidents happen, but we thought we should mention it to the staff so that it didn’t happen again. They were baffled that we even got a wake up call and assured that it wouldn’t happen again. Sure enough, 6am the next morning… Wake up call.

One the best hotels and restaurants I’ve stayed. Most companies don’t select hotels like this when traveling and this one is a gem in the Greensboro area. All of the staff are friendly, professional, and you can tell the hotel really invests in their training. You can’t walk be any staff member and not be greeted! Highly recommend. They also provide free shuttle to and from the airport and the other hotel property called the O’Henry.

This place is in so many ways amazing! First, it’s very slick. Well decorated. Lots of thought as far as matching theme, etc… Second, their room service from the Printworks bistro is top notch. Not many places offer the full menu from their reataurant. These guys do. Rooms are super spacious and reasonably priced for the inherent luxury. We travel a lot and this place is by far as nice as anything we have stayed in world wide. Great job!

From the moment you walk in to the hotel to the time you enter your room, the décor is elegant, relaxing, classy, clean– simply lovely. A beautiful double spiral staircase in the lobby and gorgeous furniture and light fixtures throughout.
The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating.
The fitness center is large enough to get a good workout in with plenty of cardio machines and some free weights, it looks out to the gorgeous pool that is open to the outdoors. I wish I would’ve packed a bathing suit!
The rooms are spacious and have a great layout! Beds are extremely comfortable, the bathroom is pretty much my dream bathroom with a nice size tub inside inside the walkin shower. The shower handle is on the opposite side from the shower head (duh! How all showers should be so you can hear water up without getting soaked with cold water first). Aveda products.
My restaurant experience at the Printworks bistro was perfect. I don’t use the word «perfect» often when describing food. The service was great; the drinks and food were freshly made and delicious; the atmosphere and ambiance was romantic, relaxed, upscale (yet casual) all in one. My mixed green salad was the freshest salad I’ve had in years (no joke), my Grilled Salmon was flavorful and exactly cooked the way I love– seared just enough on the outside to provide that delicious crunch and flavor. So stinkin’ good! Dessert was the Affogato — housemade vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso and French Almond Macaroons. I’ll give it up for the ice cream and espresso. Being that I just went to France for the first time two months ago, the Macaroons had no competition but still good for being here in America.
Overall this is my favorite boutique hotel to date and I cover ¼ of the country for work so I get to see all kinds of hotels. This is by far the most friendly, elegant and economically friendly hotel I’ve stayed at. Yes, this boutique hotel is number one in America for being green! Major plus.
Definitely stay here if you have the opportunity. Such a gem to find, especially in Greensboro!!! :)

I’ve stayed here almost 10 times. The service is consistently good, the rooms are totally satisfactory, and most importantly the restaurant and bar attached are excellent. I’ve eaten dozens of meals there and I have yet to get tired of it. Also the ground floor lobby is beautiful.

Totally overrated and definitely overpriced… Spent a night and paid $ 303 for their supposedly best room. Spent a night at the Hilton on the «Executive Level» and spent $ 137. Their restaurant sucks, thank God Ruth Chris is around the corner. Nice bathroom, although the building reminds me of the «Bates Motel». Great heat, inept bartender. Old as hell television with th the most basic of cable packages. I had a 50″ 4k at The Hilton. Will never, ever, ever, ever go here again!

This hotel, hands down, is the most luxurious, magical place I’ve ever been to. The design is simplistic/​minimalist, but extremely classy. They are a «green hotel» and practice sustainability.
The room service is pricey, but awesome. The truffle fries and shrimp risotto were perfect; I never knew food could taste so good. Their menu is small and changes depending on what’s in season. By the way, the food comes from their bistro. You don’t have to stay at the hotel to enjoy their food.
The room rates are pricey, but worth it if you can splurge.

I was here for a seminar yesterday, so I didn’t get to experience all the aspects of this hotel, but it was a lovely venue for a seminar, and the hotel is quite beautiful. The front desk staff and doorperson greeted me cheerfully and directed me where I needed to go. The only draw backs pertain the the room for the seminar… the chairs were not all that comfortable, and the west facing wall of windows had limited sun screens so half the room was blinded or squinting as the sun started its descent around 4:00pm.
