Lox Stock & Bagel

Perhaps the best Donut I’ve ever had. Breakfast sandwiches were unbelievable larg and felicious. Great place to visit from out of town for a quick breakfast.

There is nothing fancy about this place but it is reliably good. Each time we have eaten here we have enjoyed our meals, clubs, egg salad, pastrami, burgers… anything. The kids menu is great, it is actually kids menu prices rather than paying $ 7 – 8 bucks, its reasonable for grabbing a quick bite.
The laid back atmosphere is great too, and I love that you can get a beer or glass of wine if you’re in the mood!

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Lox Stock & Bagel since I’ve been eating here for too many years to recall. Sorry I’ve taken you for granted LSB.
One of the few locally owned REAL deli’s in town, LSB offers a wide variety of deli sandwiches. My standard is the Hoboken which is pastrami, cheese, mustard, and hot peppers on a hoagie roll. Love it! I also love their Reuben and Rachel (Reuben’s Turkey sister). The sandwiches are made fresh, not shipped in frozen and reheated.
LSB has a complete deli counter with Boars Heads meats, cheeses, and home made potato salad, macaroni salad, etc. They have a limited selection of beers.
The place isn’t fancy. Drinks are served in plastic cups and the plates are styrofoam. Yep, you’ll be using plastic utensils, too. There are two seating sections, one in front and a slightly larger area tucked away to the left of the cash register.
Lox Stock & Bagel is a place you can count on for a good deli sandwich at decent prices. It’s a go-​to place.

PLEASE do not think this is how NY style bagels should taste. Nice staff, awful bagels! Drive to a Brooklyn Water Bagel Company location for a yummy bagel instead!

Been around a long time. Haven’t been there in several years. Been twice this week. Great food&deli counter to order. Food prices haven’t changed a bit. Stay busy at lunch for sure.

Mixed feelings. We do love their food and their staff is wonderful. We just get a little grossed out by a few (possibly dumb) things like overall care of their establishment (incredibly old, dirty broken floor to ceiling metal blinds that don’t open so you can’t see outside… dirty/​caked up a/​c vents… bathrooms not tidy). If they’re not cleaning what their customers DO see… how clean are the areas customers DON’T see… like their kitchen or food prep areas. … It just takes a quick memory of that to direct us somewhere else.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a little while now. Growing up in Queens, NY, I know what makes a good deli. This place is the best deli I’ve found in NC. It’s extremely hard to a NY style deli in this state. I had a chicken salad sandwich and it tasted so much like what I grew up eating at diners/​delis. I will most definitely been back! A huge thumbs up on using Boar’s Head products. It’s the best.

Lived in NY and Vegas 5 yrs. Still love this place. Try the super turk w/​Russian dressing on 9 grain and a side of pasta salad. Major good!

Although I have eaten here 4 or 5 times, I still am not a great fan of their offerings. After all, French fries, and a polish sausage not on a delicatessen’s menu, really? With Lox and bagel in the name, I would expect more than just plain and sesame bagels, and the Lox is very salty.
The servers are exceptionally nice and prompt. Food orders arrive quickly. Most of the prepared sandwiches I have tried are very salty. The average sandwich is between 7 and 8 dollars. The have Rye Bread, Pumpernickel, Kaiser Roll, Onion Roll, Sub Roll, White, Whole Wheat, 9-​Grain, Bialy or Bagels.
One cannot compare this to a New York deli where the meat can hardly be restrained by the bread. They do have a wide selection of salads. It would not take too much to up their game. Home made corned beef or honey baked ham offered with homemade mustard.

After my trip to NY last month, I now expect Corned beef and Pastrami sandwiches to be piled high. my expectations were shattered when i saw the person next to me get served a cornedbeef sandwich where it seems that if pressed the bread pieces would touch. So I had the knockwurst this visit.
The sandwich was tasty but almost $ 7 for one split link made me expect more.
I like that they offer veggie sticks (carrots) in lieu of chips but booo! on the extra charge for ranch dressing.
Quality over quantity here.

I don’t go here for the bagels (I go to New Garden Bagels). I do go here for the sandwiches, friendly service and quick seating.
Even when there’s a line, they get you in as quick as they can.
My family loves coming here on weekends. I always order the Rachel – a variant on the Reuben. The sauce is delicious and it’s served hot!
My son gets pastrami or hot dogs and my wife always something different.
It won’t break the bank but you may want to loosen up your belt before you leave.
Having Dr. Brown’s sodas helps as well!

Food is outstanding and the crew is extremely nice. This place is always busy no matter when I go in here. This place serves warm German potato salad which is pretty close to the real thing. I haven’t had a bad thing here ever. I only wish they could expand the inside space for more seating. I could eat here every day and never be disappointed.

WOW — I have been a customer of this restaurant for years, constantly tell people, «you have to go there, food is great!»
But tonight was an exception — the food and waiter was outstanding, as always — But when it came time to pay my bill, the gal at the register was one of the most unprofessional people I have experienced since being in the Newark, NJ airport. If you have every been thru Newark airport you will understand.
Anyway — a gentleman was in front of me paying his bill, and I was at the end of the counter looking at the cookies — she asked if she could help me, I said, «just waiting to pay my bill», and she rolled her eyes at me with attitude. Once the other guy had moved, and I could now approach the register, I asked her if she was having a bad day, because I noticed her roll her eyes at me — she responded by telling me I was sarcastic. I apologized, and said I did not mean to come across as sarcastic — She then said, «still sounds sarcastic» — at that point I said, yes it is now sarcastic !! Hey, maybe she used to work in the Newark airport.
The gal did not appear to be young, so you can’t blame youth — must just be a deep rooted bad personality. She needs to learn not to roll her eyes at the customer, wait till they leave and do it behind their back — also, she needs to learn not to jump to judge people… I honestly was in a great mood, and sincerely did not mean to come across as sarcastic — Ask the young man that waited on me if u was difficult or rude.
My new review of this restaurant is, food is good but some of the people are horrible and lack basic people skills ! Evil people can ruin the entire experience. Now I’m really in a bad mood and I will return tomorrow and get the gals name, and I will post that information.

Hot dogs seemed like a good idea yesterday, but maybe something a little different than a classic chili dog — thus this was our choice for lunch. In addition to some pretty darn good specialty and classic deli sandwiches and sides, the offer a couple of hot dog choices, just not a chili dog.
The Double Devil Dogs (2 dogs for $ 6.95) consists of kosher wieners, American cheese, grilled onions & peppers, & spicy mustard on a regular hot dog bun. The wiener is top quality, while the onion & pepper mixture is more of a hot pepper relish, and it is hot — the the Devil Dog name.
We also ordered 2 dogs with just kraut and mustard, at a cost of $ 6.85. These are good dogs, as well. Same high quality wiener, topped with tasty but rather mild kraut — these are also nice change of pace dogs. Both orders come with chips and a dill pickle spear. Thrown in a Brown’s Original Cream Soda, and you are good to go.

I have been to First Carolina Deli a bazillion times and never here for whatever reason that I can’t explain. Yes it is the sister restaurant to FCD. Most, if not all of the menu is an exact match to FCD. It is from what I can remember anyway. I always get one of their Signature Sandwiches. Just like FCD, they use cities in New Jersey as names for their sandwiches.
The star of the show for me at both places is the Italian Sailor. It comes with pastrami, pepperoni, and Swiss cheese on rye. Every ingredient on this sandwich is superb. They don’t skimp on the meats either. It comes out warm and delicious. I typically like rye bread and this throws it over the top for me. Simply an excellent sandwich. All sandwiches come with chips, carrots, and a pickle spear (a combo of a couple of these)
I have tried the Reuben, Rachel, Sky Dog, Harrison, and Belmar. All great. But I keep coming back to the Italian Sailor and have for many years. It still to me is the best sandwich they have.
I usually get sauerkraut and I did today. Good too. They have NY potato salad and German potato salad and both of these are excellent.
Like FCD, this place is small. It is actually smaller and has less seating. Though you won’t fight the parking issue like you will with FCD and this caught my attention. The service here was better than FCD in that it only had one server, but a lot less tables. Seemed quicker. I would like to see this place at lunch or at peak times to see how things «really are.»
While I don’t drink pop, they have hard to find ones that Stewart’s and Dr. Brown’s makes. I have tried Stewart’s Orange Cream and it tastes like an orange and vanilla ice cream pop. Very good. I also have tasted Stewart’s Root Beer and Cream Soda. They taste just like you are having a float. These drinks are worth checking out if you like such things. All this being said by someone who doesn’t drink pop. They are good. They also have a limited selection of bottled beer and wine. I thought this was worth mentioning.
I like both sisters and would return here if in the area. These twins may be the best delis in Greensboro for some people. It is in the discussion anyway.

I’ve driven by this place several times in the past, and I’m always captivated by the sign since I LOVE bagels and lox, but until today, I never made it in here for lunch. It’s not a very big place, and it has very limited seating (I bypassed the line at the counter and immediately snagged a tiny two person table since there were only two tables left when my coworker and I arrived just before noon). You can order from the table so I made the right call. A really competent older lady waited on us, and she called me «sweetheart» a lot so this is NOTHING like a real NY deli (where they yell at you, and you’d better know what you want immediately or you get bypassed).
I had the «Belmar» sandwich (Grilled Prosciutto * Melted Swiss * Spicy Mustard * On Sub Roll) for $ 6.95 with chips, a pickle spear, and a side of olives (additional charge). And because it was Friday afternoon, I indulged in a cheap, one-​serving size, screw-​top bottle of white wine. The sandwich was delicious!
I will definitely return, but I am a little leery of the limited seating.

My lunch partner could not have said it any better-«they make good sandwiches here.»
I’ve had just about everything on the menu and it’s always great.
Staff is the best and prices very reasonable.

The best deli in town. My favorite is the hot pastrami on rye. Perfect! The menu is varied. The staff friendly and efficient. Get there early on Saturday for lunch if you want a booth.

Worst «bagel» ever
With a name that features the word bagel you’d think they served, well, bagels. But they don’t. They serve «bagels» that have more in common with Wonderbread than anything else. Soft, doughy… just awful. And only two varieties to choose from (plain and sesame)…not that it made any difference. Add to that cream cheese from single-​serving packets and you’re about as far away from a real bagel experience as possible.
Servers were friendly though.
Can’t comment on the rest of this deli, except to say that it appears to be 100% Boars Head brand…

It’s a shame that one bad employee can ruin a perfectly good sandwich place. Let me explain…
I tried Lox, Stock, and Bagel, as I was told the menu was similar to that of its sister restaurant, First Carolina Delicatessen; indeed, the menu was nearly identical. Both times I’ve been to Lox, I had my favorite from First Carolina: the large Italian, hot, with potato chips ($ 8.00).
The sandwich was consistently delicious, featuring salami, cappicola, provolone, ham, LTO, and warm vinaigrette dressing on a lightly toasted sub roll. It is surely one of the best sandwiches in Greensboro! As is the case with First Carolina, both times the table service was quick and rather friendly.
However, I encountered the same rude woman at the cash register during both of my visits. She seemed annoyed I was there, and rung me up with barely any acknowledgement, other than snorting my total and gazing with contempt as I handed her my credit card. This sort of thing shouldn’t bother me, but it left me rather cold both times.
Honey, get yourself some therapy and good meds, and I might just feel welcome to come back!
