History
Established in 1955.
Jake’s Deli is a Milwaukee Tradition that has been in continuous operation since 1955. The original building on North Avenue has been in Milwaukee since the early 1900s, originally as a butcher shop and then Cohen’s Deli. Jake Levin got involved in the business in 1953, and then in 1955 bought the deli and it officially became Jake’s.
Jake Levin operated the business until his retirement in 1969, when a group of local investors including Bud Selig bought the deli to keep the already famous delicatessen open and thriving. Father and son Irv and Mike Kassoff then operated the deli for almost 40 years, until Mike decided to move on and sell his ownership stake to the current managing partner, Gary Plassmeyer. Gary has over 20 years of restaurant experience and is excited to carry on and grow the Jake’s Deli tradition in Milwaukee.
Our Location in Southridge Mall opened on December 27th 2013.
Meet the Business Owner
Gary P.
Business Owner
Gary is a St Louis native with 20 + years restaurant experience 10 of those with The Texas Roadhouse. In July of 2009 I was given the opportunity to purchase a portion of Jakes and did so with great enthusiasm.
With myself and two other partners will look forward to improving Jakes while supporting the community and sticking to what we know the best: Corned Beef.
