I struck out with 10 other doctors over a 2-​year time frame. I struggled with walking even short distances without pain. Dr. Wagstaff worked wonders, first establishing foot balance with an inset, then adding 1 ½ minutes of stretching 3 times per day. Recovery was very quick. Dr. Wagstaff worked Magic on my feet!

Dr Wagstaff diagnosed my severe foot pain on my first visit. He then created a treatment plan that has me able to play tennis again in about two weeks. While not completely pain free yet, I now have the correct orthotics to help me get there. His process for orthotic mold making is both fascinating and produces an amazing product.

I have been seeing Steven Wagstaff for the last 12 years. I think he is great because he can always identify my problem and give me the exact right solution. He is professional, courteous and results driven. I recommend him highly. He is an independent doctor working on his own. You will always see him from start to finish.

I was referred to Dr. Wagstaff by a friend after suffering from a mysterious pain in my foot that no one could properly diagnose. I had been unable to run for more than two months and was frantic to figure out the problem but giving up hope. I went to see him with very low expectations but he was able to figured out exactly what the problem was and fit me with new orthodics which inevitably solved the problem and cured my foot pain. I am now back running with no lingering discomfort or problems.
I have seen people of all ages and types in his office and so it seems he is good with a variety of foot ailments. I would definitely say however that because he is an athlete himself he is most excellent at getting runners back up and running again without ASAP. He is a great pod doc and seems to be an all-​around good guy as well.

I first saw Dr. Wagstaff at least a year ago. I made an appointment because I had a pain in the ball of my foot that felt like I had a small pebble in my shoe.
Following his examination, he made temporary orthotics for the shoes I was wearing. As soon as I put the shoes on and started walking around his office, the pain was gone.
Fast-​forward to today, as long as I’m using my orthotics, I’m still pain-​free.

True story. I am prone to plantars warts. Embarrassing. I’m a swimmer so I’m often barefoot in locker rooms/​pool decks.
I decided 2015 I would tackle one I had for a while, it was quite large and smack on the bottom of my foot on the pad. It was painful, annoying, & gross. I saw my primary for three months of painful freeze treatments that did nothing but cause me to walk with a slight limp.
My primary referred me to Dr. Wagstaff and I was afraid he was going to have to cut it out (which I had done previously on one in the exact spot on the opposite foot when I was 16, living in Chicago.) Dr. Wagstaff assured me there would be no cutting or freezing. He applied medicine and the wart was 98% gone after a few weeks! He applied one more treatment of topical medicine and the wart was gone forever!
He also recommended new orthotics (my existing ones I used while running were over 15 years old). Since getting new orthotics, I’ve been more active on my feet (walking/​running) and have considerably less knee pain and aches in my arches (I have totally flat feet). Preventative care is the best medicine indeed!
Long, gross story short, he’s the best podiatrist I’ve visited and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

I really appreciate Dr. Wagstaff ‘s holistic approach to medicine. I went to see him for plantar fasciitis. He used non-​invasive techniques and body mechanics.

I’ve just returned from a visit with Dr. Wagstaff and was very, very impressed. He explained everything about the general mechanics of the foot and then the specifics of my own foot. He offered simple solutions and exercises for my calf, foot, ankle issues, and sent me home with arch supports and an adjusted insole. It’s only been an hour and my whole lower body feels better already. I know I need custom orthotics, and he’s my guy!
I saw a podiatrist years ago who was/​is the podiatrist for the Oakland A’s, but he was half as knowledgeable and cared maybe a third of the amount Dr. Wagstaff does — about my issues and his job. Thank you, Doc!

I highly recommend Dr. Wagstaff. He is very courteous and knowledgeable and takes the time to listen. I am so glad I went to see him and only wish I had gone sooner. I had forgotten what it was like to not have a sore foot and ankle!

Stephen Wagstaff and his back office are a complete joke. He has disgraced the profession of ethical and caring doctors by conforming to selling in-​soles at a premium as his go-​to treatment for any health case. He perpetuates the insensitivity to patient needs by trying to suggest unnecessary custom orthotics just to bill your insurance by any means necessary to cover his overhead. He is arragont and should reevaluate his methodology of his career. If you don’t take my word for it, create an appt and see how fast it takes him to suggest you need orthotic inserts as a great solution. It’s more than sad to see how his office can possibly sleep at night with this cookie cutter routine for people who need a podiatrist that cares about their condition. Do yourself a favor and find another podiatrist.

I have nothing but praise for Dr. Wagstaff. I have been a patient of his for the last six months, and I have seen tremendously positive results. He not only helped me conquer nail fungus, which had plagued me for years, but he also recommended custom orthotics for me, and they have been great. I have very flat feet, and this has caused me many back problems for years. Off the shelf orthotics only gave me limited relief. The custom orthotics have made a world of difference for me.
As other reviewers have stated, I really appreciated Dr. Wagstaff’s detailed explanation of foot mechanics. This really helped me to understand exactly why my flat feet were not only causing back issues, but also contributed to my nail fungus.
He is certainly one of the best doctors of any specialty that I have have encountered. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Wagstaff is hands-​down one of the best doctors I have ever had. I was suffering from post tibial tendon tear and had been booted for months. When I first came to Dr. Wagstaff, I had pretty much lost the ability to walk and was terrified of putting any weight on the booted foot.
I have been recommending him to everyone, and I pretty much feel like he saved my life. That my might sound extreme, but I was afraid I had lost most use of my foot, and now I am back to all my normal activities including hiking and roaming about.
Dr. Wagstaff is no-​nonsense, and could not be a better listener. He also takes the time to explain everything to you in complete detail, unlike many other doctors. He doesn’t dumb down information, just gives it to you straight and informatively.
Luckily that did not turn out to be the case, I immediately felt good, that if I needed surgery, I would be in the right hands.
His in-​house custom insoles immediately made a huge difference, and my new orthotics are better fitted then from previous podiatrists. After just about five weeks I am basically, fully recovered. His instructions and advice about stretching and activity couldn’t have been more helpful.
Another thing I find really impressive, is that he tends to remember both what is going on exactly with your foot condition and also anything you might’ve told him going about your life. That is saying something. Dr. Wagstaff is the kind of doctor that is a doctor because he loves to help people.

I realize that I’m most likely preaching to the choir here, as Dr. Wagstaff already has 5 well-​deserved stars here, but seriously — what a great podiatrist! Went in to get a toenail fixed up, and not only did he take care of another toe that might also grow into the nail bed, but took the time to explain prevention, care, long-​term foot care and overall foot/​leg health. They even opened 30 minutes early so I could get into the office on time. Highly recommended.

I highly recommend Dr. Wagstaff. I left a message at the office Monday, even though they were closed, but they returned the same day and were able to see me the next day.
Dr. Wagstaff was very professional and removed the foreign body from my foot without having to reschedule. Excellent bed side manner.

I appreciate that Unilocal offers the opportunity to check out professionals and then make a decision about scheduling an appointment. I had noticed that virtually all reviewers had had uniformly excellent experiences. You can’t win them all. That said, my experience of Dr. Wagstaff was just great. He’s not warm and fuzzy which can be a distraction but, thoughtful, empathetic and, most importantly, good at what he does. I went to see him with an ongoing heel problem that made it nearly impossible to walk. Yes, I bought a boot which wasn’t covered by insurance ($ 200+) but, I walked out of the office. I followed his instructions and took to heart the explanation he gave to me and I’m quite sure my problem is handled. I have already recommended him to friends, without hesitation. Good guy, highly accomplished, a competitive athlete who seriously knows feet. Also located in one of the coolest mid-​century buildings around. Thanks doc!!!

I went to see Dr. Wagstaff for a second opinion. My primary was suggesting surgery to correct my long raised first metatarsals that have resulted in arthritis, bone spurs, deterioration of cartilage, hallux rigidus and a lot of pain at the mere age of 32.
Ordering xrays from my primary was a long and laborious process but I was advised to obtain copies to bring to my appointment — which made perfect sense to me.
When I saw Dr. Wagstaff and told him what my primary had diagnosed — he asked who my primary was and it immediately became Dr. Wars. He had gone to school with my primary and it became very apparent that he was considered competition. That was the first sign that he was unprofessional.
After hearing my symptoms and diagnosis he went on to educate me about how the foot works. He grabs my foot and bends back my big toe and a shooting pain surges through the foot. I start crying… he keeps talking…
He then said that he didn’t need to see my xrays, he already knows what they are going to look like and how to diagnose my problem: $ 200 shoe inserts that he can make at that very moment. I asked him about the bone spurs that make most shoes painful. His answer was «I’ve seen worse.»
If he was fully aware of the problem I had with my feet with his xray vision then how did he not know that it would hurt to pull my big toe back?
I went on to have the surgery and I couldn’t be happier. I truly believe that most feet problems can be addressed with the proper shoes and inserts — I will agree with him on that — but not all of them. My condition is a bone deformity that I was born with — maybe he could have seen that if he looked at the xrays that I brought.
Dr. Wagstaff was arrogant and unprofessional. I WOULD NOT recommend his services.

Unilocal is a site that provides the opportunity for individuals to review their experiences at establishments. some may be good and some may be bad. You need to get used the the idea that you cannot make everyone happy — that is the reality of running a business, Dr. Wagstaff.

Wow! I met Dr. Wagstaff after seeing another podiatrist in Marin County for a year!
I had a stress fracture in my left foot and had been in the boot for about 6 months and then with the flat shoe for another 6. I was not getting better and still finding it difficult to resume any sports activities after a year.
I found him through Unilocal and boy am i glad that i did. He is so smart and good at what he does. He helped me get back on my feet and fitted me with insoles for all of my shoes. I eventually, on his recommendation, got orthotics for my walking/​hiking shoes and also for my dress shoes.
I can’t say enough good things about him. He got right to the heart of the injury and got me back to walking without pain. I highly recommend him.
I feel like if i would have known about him when i first injured my foot that i would have been pain free sooner and on the road to recovery faster. The lesson that i learned is to not be afraid of changing doctors if you feel like you are not making progress. A year is a long time to waste.

I’m a huge Wagstaff fan! I have visited him many times for various foot ailments. I’m an avid runner and my mileage causes a lot of things to come up that require a doctor’s treatment and/​or advice.
Dr. Wagstaff is very knowledgeable, friendly and a no BS kind of guy. Every treatment or piece of advice he has given me has worked. I have visited other podiatrists in the area and have never been that impressed, but I get excellent results with Dr. Wagstaff. He focuses on preventative care which is much more progressive thinking that many doctors that just give you a quick fix. I also appreciate the fact that he himself has competed in various endurance events and understands the importance of staying healthy to be able to do what you love.
I am constantly impressed with Dr. Wagstaff and I can’t recommend him highly enough!
