Michele’s Salon & Day Spa

A bad experience, and waste of time. I was kept waiting for 20 minutes while the (highest priced) stylist was on the phone, after I had let the receptionist know I had a time issue. The stylist suggested, when she finally showed up, I reschedule since SHE didn’t want to be rushed. She was rude and nasty even though she was at fault. I see this unprofessional manner reported by other reviewers, so it’s clear: the customer doesn’t come first here, or even tenth, I suspect. I’ll happily skip the flouncy touches and lah-​di-​dah atmosphere and opt for a place that wants my business. Don’t bother.

Until I met Holly I had been to just about every salon in the Berkshires for haircuts… and never stuck with anyone. It’s not that I had never had a good cut, but they always became rote and less than creative on subsequent visits. I met Holly more than 2 years ago and she has blown me away from the first cut on. Her confidence, creativity, and expertise are amazing! She took me from long wild hair to short short and now mid-​length. There’s nothing she can’t do — and I always walk out of there feeling sexier and more attractive than I’ve ever experienced at any other salon. Everybody at Michele’s is skilled, warm and generous. Last night they had a customer appreciation event and I’ve never experienced anything like it. They wined and dined us, gave away fabulous products, and treated us to facials, manicures, hairstyles, massages… WOW! Love this place. Highly recommended!

Scheduled an appointment here on a whim and was able to get in quickly with a new stylist named Victoria. She did a fantastic job cutting my hair which is kind of a difficult cut: it is an angled stacked bob and last person who cut it had kind of messed it up. Not only did she fix it but I think it’s the best haircut I’ve ever had. On top of that it was very affordable especially in comparison to other local salons. I will be going here for all of my future haircut and coloring needs.

I have been to Michele’s on two separate occasions now, and both times have been lovely. I will say that this review is based only on their spa services only, as I have not had my hair done here.
On both visits the staff were welcoming and very attentive. Prices are extremely reasonable. Appointments have all started on time and have gone the full length of time. They recently had a flood in their spa area so that lounge part was still being finished. But overall I love the ambiance. The massages, scrubs and body wraps have all been great. They have an amazing shower area with steam. I would definitely recommend the Reflexology massage, the salt scrub and the mud wrap. The mud wrap smells like chocolate and is absolutely amazing.
I will definitely go back whenever I’m in the area.

Michelle, to your comment. I did not mention being charged for a bridal contract. Only that you called the police on me when you changed the appointment and cancelled FOR MY WEDDING Day. That’s ok, I have been married since 2001 (very happily) I went to a salon in Lenox which was great. The people were so much nicer than you were. And no one called the police. LOL. It looks like you are still rude to clients and customers, late with appointments and change the prices at will. Hope people take the time to read all the reviews. You can’t make this stuff up. One or two bad reviews might be the reviewer. Multiple bad reviewers mean it’s the business.

Totally Disorganized — I stopped coming here a few years ago because they consistently screwed up appointments and had nonexistent customer service. When I needed an appointment for a manicure recently (and had a rare problem getting one at the great place up the road — Seven Salon and Spa), I decided to give Michele’s another try.
Big mistake! Although I confirmed the appointment in response to their email system, and received 3 — yes, three — text message reminders, I waited a half hour! Despite assurances from the receptionist that the technician knew I was there, no one seemed to consider the long wait a problem.
I finally approached the technician (who was doing a make-​up application I had been told would be «almost done» 30 minutes earlier) and she had no idea I was there or that I had an appointment. And, she had the audacity to tell me I’d have to wait while she did a brow wax for a walk-​in. If I wasn’t going on a trip I would have left, but I needed the manicure.
I informed her I had been waiting a half hour and needed to be taken next, which I was. The owner approached to explain that these things «happen in the industry» which was infuriating and ridiculous. As a regular customer of various salons for a number of services over the past three decades I’ve never waited this long. She did refund the payment I had already made but I found the entire attitude of all of the staff very sub-​standard. And, within 5 days, the shellac that usually lasts 2 weeks was already peeling off. Beware!

I had my wedding on a Thursday. I was coming from CO so I made my appointment over the phone weeks in advance. I was set up with Chelsea. I was a bride on a budget and asked the front desk lady what I would be charged for a practice round and the real thing. She said $ 175. I figured that sounded reasonable. After my practice round, I was charged $ 85 for it. My jaw dropped, but I thought maybe it would be less the next session now that she knew where she was going with the style. The next day I went in with my friend and Chelsea was still with another client. She was 20 min late for my appointment so she had her «assistant» set me. I felt very uncomfortable with this as I had no idea that was going to happened. I obviously looked worried, so Chelsea said to me, «I am running late, my assistant is going to set you.» After I still showed confusion, she added a short, «You ARE a weekday bride, I run late on weekdays.» I felt insulted and that it was poor time management skills. Why cant you have a full appointment for a bride that is going to drop all that money? When it all came down to the bill in total for 2 sessions plus tip it was $ 285, not $ 175. This was more that my wedding dress! I did not want stress while I was there, I just wanted to get on my way to my wedding. Now that I came back home, I took out time to email the salon’s owner to alert her of the break down of communication from front desk to clients regarding pricing and to see what we could arrange. Chelsea intercepted the email and decided to call me herself. Right off the bat, she was short and very «mater of fact». As I continually tried to explain myself, she kept cutting me off, talking over me and putting it as it was my fault and there was no possible way anyone told me that pricing. I just wish I had the name of the front desk girl!!! I am also a small business owner and it goes without saying that when a customer contacts you to bring up an issue, you listen, you DO NOT cut them off and you are kind. That is just good customer service and good listening skills. It really added insult to injury. When I tried to ask if there was a manager I could speak with, she said it was her mom and she would TRY to tell her about this situation. Well, gee, I wonder what will happen there! Based on a review further down, sounds like this exact situation has happened in the past and I should have known better. Do not go here if you want good customer service with clear pricing.

I have been going there for years and the service is always great. Everyone is always nice and accomadating. Holly is a great stylist.

As a local, Ive been everywhere in the berkshires… Being a new mom, I booked a haircut appointment. I had not had a cut in a year and was so looking forward to a minute for myself. …got someone to watch the baby, drove to Michelles and came in on time, for my appointment, only to be told that ‘my stylist called in sick’ I just stood there. they did not offer to re schedule or comp me in any way for their last minute cancellation. I was so upset and mad. I will probably never go back.

I got my hair cut at Michele’s recently, and had a very positive experience. Though unassuming on the outside, as soon as you walk in the door you can tell that it is a professional and well-​maintained salon — very nice atmosphere and décor, and the space feels intimate and not like you’re getting your hair cut with a dozen other people. The staff was very pleasant and good at their jobs. I have kind of challenging hair, and the stylist made sure we were on the same page before cutting, which I appreciate (I also appreciate the included neck and scalp massage with essential oils beforehand!)
Overall, this is definitely my salon of choice in the Great Barrington area.

I am new to the area and was in a panic about where to go for both hair and waxing needs. I heard of Michele’s from a work acquaintance and decided to take the plunge.
I could not be more pleased!
My first visit was with Alicia — she cut my hair (shampoo/​cut/​blow dry), and the neck massage before each hair service is a great little touch (no pun intended.)!
Alicia is very sweet, easy going, and did a fabulous job. From start to finish. She gave me samples of various products but I didn’t feel like she was pushing product to be bought. I will be using her for my future hair needs!
Also want to recommend Krista, the esthetician who waxed my brows. Another superb experience! It was quick, precise, and she has a natural flair for taking off the right amount of hair with minimal pain.
The salon itself is adorable, the receptionist is so helpful and friendly and the product selection is one of the best I have ever seen anywhere!
This place is definitely worth checking out. There aren’t too many hot salons where I live in Litchfield county; so happy to say this gem is a keeper!

I stopped going to Michelle’s after one too many experiences with one too many stylists there who thought they knew more about what I wanted in terms of color & style than I did. Expensive & attitude that turns me off.

I got a massage here after dealing with severe neck pain for almost a week. The masseuse, Darni, was REALLY knowledgeable and seemed to pinpoint the location of inflammation and after a 1 hr massage almost all of the pain was gone. I thought she was also really nice and talkative and overall it was a pleasant experience. I also felt for the service provided, the pricing was competitive as well.

I wish I read the reviews before I went here — I heard that Michele was a great cutter and stylist, so I made an appointment with her for the following week — got up early for my 9AM appointment — and at about 8:30 they called and cancelled! No explanation and no attempt to re-​book me. When I asked if I could get another appointment with Michele, they told me that it would be another week or two! Gee thanks.
I got a cut later that day with another stylist there — and it is about the worst cut I have ever had.
They make pretensions to be a day spa also — showing you around the basement where they have small treatment rooms and a tiny sitting room and shower. So I tried again with a massage appointment. They dump you downstairs with no place to put anything like your clothes? The «complimentary» steam shower is okay but I didn’t use it because I couldn’t figure it out and no one helped. As a veteran of many spas, day and otherwise — this place is really disappointing. Chatty masseur was sort of okay, but the next day I hurt from his efforts to de-​stress me.
So I have more stress than before I went and a miserable haircut to boot.

Michele’s is a little oasis in Great Barrington. The wait area has coffee, tea and fresh cake. A haircut starts with a scented oil scalp and neck massage that is always relaxing. That is followed by a wash and cut by one of their excellent staff. I keep returning here because they are a friendly and professional place that offers a great service at a very fair price.

I came to this salon for my Wedding with a party of 8 girls in total. I made our appointments and discussed with their bridal coordinator in great detail months in advance, however upon arrival, it was almost as if we were walk ins. There was no record of what I had discussed with the «coordinator». We had to stand around for almost half an hour (after our first scheduled appointment) until the first person was in a chair. Needless to say the appointments ran an hour and a half over.
It was extremely frustrating, and no one working at the Salon seemed to care which added to my stress level. We had a winter wedding, and this resulted in us losing a full hour of daylight for our pictures which were all being taken before our ceremony, this was extremely disappointing.
Aside from the organizational issues, My hair and makeup turned out nice but not spectacular. While this may be a great local salon for normal hair appointments, I would not recommend coming here with your bridal party especially if you have a larger group.

Came to Michele’s with a bridal party. I didn’t catch her name, but the daughter of Michele is a standout stylist relative to her peers. The bride’s hair was wonderful, but for the bridal party, it seemed like they were used to doing 16 year old prom updos than nice bridal hair.
At the end, we had a price dispute. There was a disconnect between the person the Bride had spoken with and the Receptionist who was there during the day. Overall it was just an unpleasant experience. Not ideal for a wedding day.
Nevertheless, I’d overall suggest going to another salon if you’re looking for a bridal appointment. What I felt was worst about the pricing issue was not having to pay a few hundred dollars more in total, but the customer service attitude toward a client on her wedding day.

Love Michele’s … Been coming for years. There is always a lot of great talent here. Holly has been coloring and cutting my hair for a few years and she is a genius — truly inspired… I always get lots of compliments after I’ve been in to see her. Also I’ve found folks to be very accommodating when I’ve really needed to be squeezed in for an appointment. I’ve had great massages, facials and waxing as well. I’m so glad we have Michele’s here in G.B.
