Absolutely the worst deli of any store I’ve ever been to. It’s maddening to try to get anyone to help you while you stand there like an idiot… or trying to explain what 1⁄3 of a pound is… or trying to get only dark meat chicken. Their deli is composed of 24 different kinds of turkey, and I think 1 crappy salami. I understand they can’t stock things that don’t sell, but maybe one specialty salami would be ok. The other delis in town have 2 – 3 salami options… so it must sell there. Plus now you have all the homeless hanging out there… which makes every trip there a scent filled adventure. I guess I’ll need to start going to Raleys.

You unload your own groceries, so you cannot watch the prices being run up, can’t keep an eye on the so called courtesy clerks… Ice cream and wine, with a tomato on the bottom of the bag, a package of meat standing on its side is NOT the way to bag OUR very EXPENSIVEGROCERIES!!! Watch the courtesy clerk drop my ice cream in one bag, I asked her to put it in another bag, she picks the ice cream up, tosses it in another bag with the bottle of wine… when the bagging is done, they run off, basically having you carry out your own groceries, NOT the first time!!! If you have kids to watch while going through the check out… sure makes it nice doesn’t it??? I think the store just hires someone off the street, hands them a bag, tells them to throw food in the bags… no training, picture will show this, start writing them up!!!

Refuse to look at negative reviews of this store, they are always as lovely in their as can possibly be. It’s a great place to shop.

Self check-out young lady was patient and helpful(being the first attempt at self checkout). It shows when employees love their job. Thank you Angel I will be shopping there for now on.

This store exceeded my expectations, which were based on the average number of stars I saw here. It has an attractive atmosphere with attractive prices, and the cashier was friendly. Only thing I couldn’t find was unrefrigerated pudding, for which I gave up looking after an employee directed me to the wrong aisle.

Better prices than Raleys but the lines are insane!

The last two times I shopped at Safeway, I was on my lunch break so time was short. For some reason Safeway’s express line(15 items or less) was closed both times and every available checker had 4+ people in their lines with carts filled to the brim. Even the self check out was backed up with a line of people. Come on store manager! — your store is always packed with people so you must be making a fortune — please don’t skimp on the staff and allow your shoppers who only come in for a few items an expedient shopping experience! Today, you lost my business — I put my few items down and walked out in disgust(including a $ 26 bottle of wine). You also make it difficult for the shoppers who want to get a bottle or two of wine or booze as you won’t allow them through your self checkout and now you are skimping on your express line. Keep it up and you will lose my business for good!

I have been to my share of Safeway stores in my time. They seem to be improving overall as a chain as far as quality, and convenience goes. This particular store is one of the better Safeway stores I have frequented. Most of the time the staff members are courteous, friendly, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile for a superior customer service experience. Of course, it’s neither the best nor worst of their stores I have been to. I have had my share of mishaps with customer service throughout the last 15 years, however they are few and far between and to be expected in these types of establishments. Most of the time their deli is better than their competitors and the sushi can be good for a grocery store.

Deli clerks need an attitude adjustment. There is also no consistency with their sandwiches, all their clerks make each deli sandwich differently and when trtying to correct them they get annoyed. The store itself is okay. I must admit that I have stopped frequenting this store if I can avoid it. The parking lot and storefront has been taken over by pan handlers, smokers, and just over all dirty loiters. I have nothing against any of the previously said descriptions. I don’t enjoy walking through plumes of smoke while entering what is supposed to be a family environment, along with the panhandling and filth of the entrances of the store.

They falsely advertise in a sign in their wall that they have fast internet service. So untrue. When I went to the service desk to complain that I was having trouble, it was going to take hours to download the new operating system for my iPad, they were very unfriendly, disavowed any knowledge of knowing what was wrong but made sure to mention no one had ever complained before. I called apple tech support right there from Safeway and they told me a software test I could download for free that would check the speed of their wifi. I tested twice and it showed the service was about 1⁄50th of what a fast wifi speed would be. I went to the other other Safeway in Grass Valley did not even have wifi at all. When I called San Francisco weights and measures again recently to complain about being overcharged for sale items by Safeway I found out Safeway is already being investigated for social inequity by government agencies in California for not providing instant discounts for poor people using smart phones as they do got rich people with iPads and laptops. SPD market did not have wifi either but their extremely nice employees, good sale prices, and fantastic made to order tuna sandwiches in the deli made me wish they were here in SF, where I shop at Safeway.

Ok I have done my shopping her for about 2 years now. I also shop raleys when I can. I like shopping at safeway because they do have great deals most weeks. If it isnt on sale though the price is always higher than raleys and SPD. Most checkers are friendly. However, I have heard from many employees how horrible it is to work for safeway. They are a joke compared to other grocery stores. One thing safeway has started to do is hire the disabiled. I have no problem with that except for the fact that it takes twice as long for them to get a job done. Another frequent problem is that they never seem to have enough courtsey clerks to bag groceries. I always end up having to bag my own. The meat dept is horrible. There is always blood juice all over the meat area. And no papertowels. They are also very rude in the meat dept. The floral and produce employees are always very friendly. They always ask if I need any help. I would shop other stores and never return to this one BUT the deals are what gets me to come back. ALSOSTEER clear of the self checkout. It may seem like a good idea when it is busy BUT I have had sooo many problems with them not charging right!

I’m not really sure what’s up with the bad reviews I’m seeing on this page, but I can say that I’ve been shopping at Safeway every since I moved here last year and every time I go there I find the staff nothing but friendly and helpful. I don’t think the prices are high at all, in fact, I find them to be even lower than Raley’s and competitive to Grocery Outlet. My husband and I even ordered our wedding cake from the bakery last October. I was a bit hesitant to order it from a grocery store bakery because I was afraid it would be the standard dry, overly-sweet confection, but I was pleasantly surprised when my husband and I met with the manager — she was extraordinarily friendly and helpful! She even made up 9 large-sized samples of cake/filling/frosting choices for us to try before making our decision. The cake was absolutely delicious — super moist, fresh, and frankly, the BEST cake I’ve ever put in my mouth. Seriously. The price for the cake was OUTSTANDING compared to local caterers and bakeries! I highly recommend this grocery store — I’ve hit amazing BOGO deals in the meat department, found excellent produce deals and fresh food. The prices are spot on and cannot be beat and they run sales weekly. I shop here every single week and I’ll never shop anywhere else for groceries! Sure, it’s crowded most of the time, but I’ve found if you go shopping around 10am, it’s really not all that bad. The florist staff is also incredibly attentive and amazingly helpful as I consulted them regarding flowers before my wedding. Every time I even walk near the florist area, I get asked if I need help with anything — THAT is quality service! Everyone has been friendly to me — cashiers, managers, sales floor, butchers, produce stockers, everyone! This store must have had a major overhaul from several years ago because WOW… this store is NOW nothing like what I’m reading here.

Not sure whether previous reviewers’ sentiments re: employee surliness are just plain outdated now. I’ve been to this Safeway several times recently and everyone was friendly and helpful. Selection is standard grocery-store and prices are right down the middle.

I hate Safeway. They have the most unhappy employees that I’ve ever seen in a Grocery Store. Not to mention their high prices. I don’t shop here anymore. I do miss Lucky’s, which had a MUCH friendlier and family oriented atmosphere. I even liked Ralphs just the way it was. I think it was a huge mistake to get rid of Ralphs and every single employee there… just for the company to «save» a few bucks. Ralphs was the money maker store in all of Northern CA. Now you walk into Safeway and it’s dark and cramped and everyone is not happy. What happened to the family oriented atmosphere? What happened to the happy employees? I will NOT shop here ever, even if I were starving and they had the last food on earth!!!

Between the old store and the new store I think Safeway needs to get its proverbial act together. The way they treat their employees is a crime with manager’s cow-towed and low level employees not getting their legal breaks. Managers are also clocking out and going back to work because the pressure is so extreme to complete jobs and if they claim overtime they know they’ll be fired. These used to be such good jobs and now that the union has given in to pressure from the chains minimum wage has made it’s way back in for back breaking work. I miss Lucky’s. I even miss Ralph’s although that’s not saying much.
