The veterinarians at Veterinary Medicine Specialists of D/FW have been certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in their respective subspecialties.
Procedures our specialists may provide include: endoscopy, ultrasound (heart, thoracic cavity, and abdominal cavity), ECG, advanced imaging (CT scan or MRI), chemotherapy, nutritional intervention, pacemaker management, advanced laboratory tests, and tissue aspirates and biopsies.

Veterinary Medicine Specialists of Dallas /Ft. Worth (VMS) was established in August 2008 by Drs. Caeley Melmed and Erika Pickens. Prior to this, they both practiced small animal internal medicine in the Dallas area for several years. Our doctors and staff are dedicated to diagnosing and treating your beloved dogs and cats in order to enhance their lives. We strive daily to provide quality patient care and thorough communication with owners and referring veterinarians.

Dr. Melmed and Pickens C.
Business Owner
Dr. Melmed was born in South Africa, moving Dallas as a young child. She attended veterinary school at Texas A&M University and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1999. She pursued her internship at The Ohio State University returning to Texas A&M to complete her Internal Medicine residency. Following her residency, Dr. Melmed practiced Internal Medicine for 5 years before starting VMS of DFW with Dr. Pickens in 2008.
Dr. Pickens was born in Seattle, WA and grew up in Austin, TX. She graduated Cum Laude from Texas A&M University with a Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Science in 1995. She remained at TAMU and graduated Cum Laude in 1999 with her DVM degree. She completed an Internship in Sm Animal Medicine at Metroplex Vet Centre in Irving, TX. Dr. Pickens worked in the Houston area for the next 2 years. She then pursued her long-time interest in internal medicine and completed a residency in Sm Animal Internal Medicine at LSU. She has been practicing in D/FW since 2004.
