The Tile Man

Brad Edwards is a stand-​up guy and is very easy to work with. I hired Brad, aka The Tile Man, to finish a job after having to fire the previous installer due to gross incompetence and lack of professionalism. This is a tough situation for any installer, coming into a job that is half done or poorly done. Brad worked very well with me. He removed the top half of an expensive slate double shower, having to replace the hardibacker and sealing the seams. He then did a great job selecting, aligning, and setting the new slate tiles. He finished the unfinished seats and transom, and reinstalled all of the pencil rail and trim. He also successfully removed and replaced two 6×12 tiles that the previous installer notched out causing a hole so large the trim couldn’t cover it. Instead of notching, Brad drilled holes that were perfect. He also recommended applying the sealer and enhancer which really made that tile «pop.» (see picture on The Tile Man’s profile)
In my guest bath I provided Brad with the exact design and provided all of the tile and decorative glass. I showed Brad pictures of how the display was setup in the store, and pointed out the installation failures perpetrated by the previous installer. Brad removed the old tile and hardibacker, and starting from scratch, he did an AMAZING job. Other contractors that saw this job, and were familiar with the previous tile guy, were highly impressed with Brad’s work and asked me to provide Brad’s contact information for later jobs. Brad also installed about 160 sq ft of ceramic faux wood flooring. He did an excellent job keeping the seams tight as if it were actual wood. Brad was also excellent helping to pick out the right grout.
Lastly, I had Brad install a copper tile backsplash and copper tile inside a kitchenette table. Working with metal tile is a challenge. This was the only area where I believe they could have done a little bit better, an I believe this was simply from lack of familiarity. They made cuts in the metal tile at the table that I did not think need to be made, and exposed some very sharp edges. There were also some minor issues with the backsplash tile placement and grout. It is important to realize that in almost every job, there will be some minor issues, and sometimes more than minor. What helps a company stand out is how they face those issues. In the worst scenario, like the one I experience with the previous tile installer, they chose to blame me, the homeowner, instead of taking responsibiity for their own incompetence, or that of their crew. Brad took full responsibility for any issues and went out of his way to correct this issues at a time that was convenient to me.
Lastly, Brad does not have a big crew. It is only himself and his brother as far as I know. This may prevent them from being the right fit for very large jobs. However, there were zero communication issues working with Brad and his brother, and that is a pretty big value-​add. Thanks again Brad.
