A Show of Hands Xcetra

I really don’t like to give a bad review and had to think about it for a few days before doing it. I came around to thinking that the reason Unilocal works is because of people offering honest, constructive criticism when warranted.
I am new to town and didn’t see many Unilocal reviews for salons, I checked websites of a few and found that A Show of Hands’ site looked pretty good, offering lots of services and plenty of specialists. I decided to go over there on 7^th street to see for myself if it would be a good fit for me. I was greeted immediately by a friendly woman and I asked about haircut and free consultation, she assured me I was in the right place, I went on to ask about appointments wondering if there were much of a wait. No, I could book to my convenience. I asked again about a consultation — to which the woman asked me to turn around, she put her hand through the back of my hair and said, «oh, yeah, I can do that»
Ok maybe that should have been my red flag but I booked it with her «Lisa» anyway.
The appointment started with my telling Lisa what I wanted, «I love my haircut, it just needs a half inch taken off all the way around.» She wasn’t going to shampoo me until I asked that she do, she was going to use a spray bottle. She sectioned off my hair as if I were going to have a perm, not a cut. I believe this was why she totally lost track of the shape of my head/​hair as she completely ruined my previously fantastic haircut that merely needed a trim.
As Lisa appeared to be about finished I could see that the shape of my cut was gone, that whatever I had now was lopsided and pointed out to her that it was longer on one side. This was when my «friendly» Lisa changed to a sullen, impatient unprofessional. She had to ask a coworker what she should do when I told her there was too much weight on top (of my new unwanted style). In awkward silence (previously a chatterbox) she continued to whack away at what was to become a nightmare haircut.
The blow dry technique only had me hot and sweaty within two minutes as I could tell she had no clue how to use a round brush. I asked her to stop because I couldn’t look another minute at how ridiculous I now looked! I told her I’d do it at home and she was all smiles as she pulled off the gown. Once I was on my feet with purse in hand, asking what I owed her, she whispered to me that since I wasn’t really satisfied, she would normally ask $ 30, but for me she’d only charge me $ 20. Discussed and eager to get out of there I paid full price!
I spent the rest of my afternoon attempting to style the unstyleable! Thank goodness for hair clips and headbands!
I’ve since found a new salon, a stylist who was able to created a custom style that is very attractive and I learned to not ignore a red flag ever again.
