History

Established in 1979.

1979: Margy Jones opens a tiny stationery shop. Anticipating expansion, cleverly brands the store Papers Plus.

1990: Margy’s daughter, PK Mason, returns to GR. Mother-​daughter retail dream team is born. Neiman Marcus shudders.

2002: Stalwart local department store, Jacobson’s closes. Flustered locals turn to Papers Plus seeking respite.

2004: Store shelves collapsing under weight of giftware and tabletop lines. Becoming more about the Plus than the Paper…

2006: Jacobson’s building replaced with new development, featuring anchor tenant Papers Plus. Brides delirious over Juliska, Michael Aram, Simon Pearce, Vietri… definitely more Plus than Paper.

2007: Passing newcomer heard mumbling, «Papers Plus … is it a scrapbooking store?»

2010: Design staff added to assist customers with home décor.

2011: Newlyweds William and Kate visit America. Kate overheard sighing, «We would have registered here had we known you were so much more than paper!» Store immediately re-​branded.

Absolutely ridiculous I call on Christmas Eve to check what hours they are open. I am told by an associate that they will be open until 4 pm and when I arrive at 3:30 the store is closed.

I returned to Papers Plus, after having moved away many years ago, to help me select the perfect wedding invitation for my son and daughter-in-law’s wedding celebration. I was greeted with a warm welcome, making me feel right at home and as though I had never left.
I knew Papers Plus would have just the right selection from which to choose. Long distance planning and selections can be challenging, as the bride and her mother live in Texas and Florida, but with the professional help (and fun) from Molly, Cathy, Margy, and Ann, we put the invitations, notecards and tableware together with ease. These great women put their all into helping me. It was as though it was their party.
I loved Papers Plus when they opened in the late 70’s – the same year I delivered my son – the groom! I bought my son’s birth announcements from them! I continue to think they are the best. Their first-​class customer service, happy atmosphere and amazing inventory make the drive from Ann Arbor to Grand Rapids worth every mile.

Papers Plus is a lovely stationery, gift, and homewares store in Gaslight Village. If you need to get something for your fussy mother-​in-​law– or more to the point, to *impress* your fussy mother-​in-​law– this is the place to go. Wonderful lifestyle brands like Vera Bradley, Kate Spade, and Crane & Co. are represented here. The price point is on the higher side, but the store’s selection is top notch. They also carry greeting cards and wrapping papers that are a cut above what you find at the drugstore or Hallmark.

I am so in love with Papers Plus! The ladies were so wonderful helping my mother and I choose the perfect invitation for my wedding. I came in one afternoon with no expectations to purchase anything but after spending only a few minutes in their store I knew this was the place for me! My mom and I felt so welcome to take our time and browse with no pressure. After I made a selection, Jennifer sat down with us and we began to go over my budget and exactly what I needed. She helped me write out what to say on my invitations, color and font options and answered every question politely and professionally. We were in the store for almost two hours and she didn’t make us feel rushed to make decisions at all! Jennifer also e-​mailed me the proofs and said if I had any questions or wished to change anything I could e-​mail her or call the store. Once I received my proofs after a week I went into the store and finalized some formalities with the owner who was so nice and helpful. I truly felt like she genuinely cared about my experience and wanted me to get exactly what I wanted. And I did! My invitations arrived less than a week after my order was placed and I cannot express how pleased I am! They turned out beautiful and will set the perfect tone for my upcoming wedding. I cannot wait to send them out to my guests. I highly recommend Papers Plus over any online discount store. It was such a relief to be able to speak to someone face to face over any concerns and to be able to actually see and feel the quality of the product before the order is placed. Save yourself stress and anxiety and go to Papers Plus and let them take care of you!!!
