History

Established in 1994.

Moby’s Dive Shop was founded in Newaygo MI, and moved to Grand Rapids in 1996. The owner Andy previously manged he Skampt Scuba Shop in Grand Rapids from 1991 – 1994. Our goal has always been to provide honest and relaible product and service to our clientele.

We have carefully built the business over the past 18 years to try our best to improve accommodations, services, training and overall customer satisfaction. We also try not to be all things to all divers, as it is very challenging task in the Mid-West, but better to be better at fewer things than poor at most things.

Moby’s has an excellent staff of Dive Leaders and staff to teach, guide and serve you.

Meet the Business Owner

Andy M.

Business Owner

Andy grew up working in his small town family Pharmacy, spending summers swimming and snorkeling in the many Michigan lakes and in the Great Lakes during family camping vacations. Being in and around the water has always been a passion.

Andy earned two degree’s from Ferris State University, an Associates in Commercial Art, the other a Bachelor of Science in Business and Marketing.

Other responsibilities at FSU include an Assistant Hall Director role and an Orientation Leader job where he met his wife (of 28 years).

Scuba diving was very natural when first experienced in 1991 as a Scuba Shop Store Manager in Grand Rapids. This responsibility of running a shop was challenging yet enjoyable, When the Dive Shop partnership split up after a few years. The dream of owning a business and the idea of Moby’s Dive Shop was developed. Early April of 1994 with little money and a lot of support from a few close friends Moby’s Dive Shop opened it’s doors for business in May 1994.
