History

Established in 1936.

Autofixit was originally just a body shop. Mike & Mary Hoogerheide purchased the business from the third owner in May 2000. From there they have improved upon its original intentions to fully serve Grand Rapids area residents including full mechanical & diagnosing as well as full structual & body repairs.

I can’t even with this place! If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would! This is actually the third time I’ve visited this shop, and I’m more impressed every time. I wrote my initial review after the first visit. The next time, I popped in because the rubber thing around my door came detached at the top. I was pretty sure it wasn’t a big deal, but sometimes those little repairs surprise you, right? The guy at Auto Fix It came out to take a look, pulled a tool out of his pocket and re-attached that problematic little thing right then and there — then he said I was all set and didn’t owe him anything. No big deal. What!?! I couldn’t believe it. When does this stuff happen? These guys are like the relative who can fix cars that I never had. :) :) :)
Just when I thought my love for this place had reached full potential, our newer car started making a loud noise that even a dummy like me realized must be the muffler. I visited the dealership first, hoping it would be covered by the warranty. It wasn’t, and the dealership gave me an estimate for $ 425 to replace the muffler. (No alternative was offered as an option.) We decided to get a second opinion at Auto Fix It, the only car place I’ve ever trusted. I was hoping to save on the repair, but I was not prepared for the phone call I got — within an hour of dropping the car off, Auto Fix It called to say that there was a hole in the exhaust that could be repaired for $ 80. Eighty freaking dollars, versus $ 425. It seemed too good to be true, but it’s been a month, and the car is as good as new. I’m so grateful that I found this place!

My check engine light was on and my headlight was blown. They fixed the headlight, told me why the check engine light was on, reset it, told me what to do if it comes back on, and charged me nothing. Yup, nothing, as in $ 0.

I came in to get my headlights fixed. I already had the parts and needed an install. Service was fast and the people were friendly. In the end, the owner Michael Hoogerheide decided not to charge us but just had us tip the mechanic. My estimate at the dealership was around $ 200 and by contrast, the install at Auto Fixit cost me $ 25. I left feeling like a rock star.

On the way from Chicago to Grand Rapids we figuratively hit some serious weather and literally hit a serious pothole that made my right rear strut totally disconnect from the frame of my beloved-hated clunker. I was at a loss how to handle this situation. I was in town only for the weekend, and I didn’t know how safe it was to drive since the strut was banging around like a mosh pit of one within my wheel well.
Anyway, we gave Auto Fixit Body Shop a call, and immediately were reassured it would be okay. The owner said we could bring it in first-thing the following Monday morning when they opened, and he’d have it patched or totally repaired as fast as possible.
He delivered. Not only was my strut replaced before noon, but gave me a totally fair price and threw in two new brake lights for free. What Michigan magic is this?
I highly recommend the folks at Auto Fixit. If I ever have car troubles in G.R. again, this is the first place I’d call.

I went to another body shop in the area and they quoted me twice as much as Auto Fixit Body Shop. Someone had hit my parked car in a parking lot. The repairs came out great. They also detailed my car inside and out — which isn’t a standard practice with them, but I got a bonus!
Also, I had wanted the front of the car painted becuase it had chipped paint from rocks hitting it. They were honest and straightfoward. They said I really didn’t need to paint the entire hood (which was $ 900 quoted at the other body shop) for what I wanted to accomplish and charged me $ 25 to do paint touch ups on the hood.
Overall, Fair and honest. The only negetive is that it is in a bit of a rough looking area and they smoke in the office… but it will save your wallet!!!
