Its a great place to grab a quick bite. I am a fan of their sandwiches. They also have a decent collection of sodas. They could do better with salads.

Came here with my kids for lunch over their Christmas break. We ordered our food and waited 15 minutes. We had to wipe our own table off. I ordered a garbage salad which cost nearly $ 8. It was skimpy and not worth the cost. No roasted peppers came on it as advertised. My daughters ordered chicken salad sandwiches and were very disappointed. The bread was dry and they said the chicken salad tasted store bought, not homemade. The chili was«awful» as my daughter said, with little flavor. My son said he’d rate his ham sandwich as a 5 out of 10, stating too that the bread was dry.

I ordered pulled pork sandwich and was massively disappointed. Main spice seemed to be salt, and it was dry. I have never had a pulled pork sandwich I didn’t like until today. I took home the half I couldn’t bare to ingest and after some massive doctoring up, it wasn’t half bad.

The staff is extremely rude. They are slow as all get out. Asked for tip before we got our meal. I ordered a bagel and they were confused when they didn’t have any. Then I ordered a Caesar salad. When it finally came out, it had Italian dressing. I went up to the counter to ask for Caesar dressing and they said what they gave me was all they had. Very disappointed and will never go back.

I came here for lunch on the go. I don’t normally work from Goshen. I went to Electric Brew first, but they had stopped serving lunch and recommended I come here. I like how much they have to offer as they are also a butcher shop. Their sandwiches all sounded tasty. I went with the Godfather and it was a really great blend of flavors. I plan to come back and try something else as well as purchase some meat to take home.

I go here quite often for lunch and get giddy when the brie and mushroom soup is on. Love the signature sandwhiches. They also have a great big selection of vintage sodas that I love. Owners and employees are super friendly and never had to wait too long for food. Highly suggest!

My young adult daughter and I were shopping local on Saturday and decided to stop in to Mattern’s for lunch to give it a try since neither of us had ever eaten there before. We liked the idea of the deli/café made to order experience. The young lady behind the counter was friendly as she was an acquaintance of my daughter. We ordered the half sandwich, half pint soup of the day which in this case was the tomato bisque. The place wasn’t too crowded since it was just after 1:00 p.m. on a Saturday… seems we missed the bigger lunch crowd. Waited a short while for our orders, but not too long. My issue was they completely combined our sandwich orders. Daughter ordered turkey breast on honey wheat bread with various fresh veggies and yellow mustard. I ordered turkey on rye with different veggies including onion with brown mustard. We each had some of what the other ordered. I got her yellow mustard and she got my brown. She got my onions, I got her pickles, etc. The half order sandwich was much smaller than I expected as well. Just a small triangle size piece of bread. The tomato bisque was oily and not creamy which left a greasy stain across your lips after you took a bite. We had quite a laugh at that! We also ordered 2 tea’s from the self serve cooler. Total price was $ 19.97 which I thought was a bit pricey for what we got. I make a point to spend my money locally, however, I doubt I’ll be back for lunch anytime soon. They’ve been open long enough to work out the bugs at this point and somehow they aren’t «getting» it.

Very friendly service. They are very willing to help you out. The sandwiches are quite good. Good quality meat, both in the deli and meat counter.

I have not experienced the same service issues that some of the other reviewers have noted. Been in 3 times for lunch and everything has been great. The service had been exceptionally pleasant and speedy, even when they were busy. Sandwiches have all been delicious with fresh bread and high quality meats. It’s a very cool and relaxing space as well. I will continue to stop by for lunch when I’m passing through Goshen.

I very much enjoyed this local butcher shop and deli, which was a pleasant, casual lunch place. The interior is bright and airy with high ceilings, and seating extends pretty deep into the restaurant along the meat/deli counter. You order off their blackboard at the register, and they bring the lunch to your table. Enjoyed the reuben sandwich and thought it was reasonably priced. One cool feature is that they offer vintage bottled sodas. The meat selection also looked very good, particularly the pork chops. There is a very small specialty olive oil shop(different owner) in the way back.

Sorry, I want to give this place a better review… but there are some things not going well at Mattern’s. First, each day they have three soup choices but almost never do they offer a healthy choice; something without white flour in it. Second, they are a deli, and offer wraps as a menu choice. Yet, each of the last three of four times I’ve been there they«just ran out of wraps.» Perhaps they are a better butcher shop than they are a lunch deli, I can’t judge them on this. I’ve eaten lunch there more than once a week since they opened, and I’m beginning to believe that their best days are behind them. Bummer.

Where to begin-This local butcher shop/deli serves the best grilled pork chops around(every First Friday). Plus, their turkeys for the holidays are fantastic. I hosted my family for the first timet this past Christmas. The directions for cooking the bird were clear, simple and the flavor of the smoked turkey was excellent. One of my favorite places to go-every Goshen First Friday.

I don’t usually write reviews but I must support my fellow reviewers with regards to Mattern’s Butcher Shop and Deli. The staff is rude. I believe I encountered the girl that is being referred to in earlier reviews. We waited nearly an hour for three sandwiches and«the girl» proceded to bring mine on the wrong bread. She began to weave a story that they ran out of the roll that I ordered. When I asked if there was another type of roll she could put it on, she took it away and slammed it on the counter and miraculously produced the correct roll. Draw your own conclusions. And because we had to wait so long, we were there after closing at which time they turned off the lights in the eating area. REALLY! Selection is very limited and they again ran out of soup. The food was ok, but not worth the wait, attitude or price. Patron beware.

I brought a bunch of friends to try out Mattern’s with me. The girl at the counter was persnickety and impatient. We were all standing around looking at the menu(not ready to order) and she was quite upset that we weren’t in line. There was not enough of the«special» for all those who ordered it to eat it, but the special was quite tasty, we loved the atmosphere and the price was good, five of us ate for $ 35. I’ll probably be back, but seriously need to fix their service issues.

This storefront was a dress shop for many years. When that clothing store closed, Mattern’s took it over and it seems to be doing quite well, especially if my visit was any indication. It’s half butcher shop, half deli/café. My mom and I came here for a late lunch last weekend, on a blustery and chilly Saturday. We waited for quite awhile for our order to be taken while the girl at the counter answered the phone, scurried around and helped a few others. Then it was revealed that despite the chalkboard sign indicating three kinds of soup, they were down to only chili. Okay, we both like chili, so we both ordered half turkey sandwiches with a cup of chili. After a pretty decent wait, and only one sandwich made, they told us they were now out of chili as well. Of course we had already paid, so they made it up to us in dessert. Now, the pie was quite good. And the sandwiches were good too; the meat was fresh, the bread delicious. But it was still a bit disappointing given the lack of soup and the somewhat fumbled service. I really think they should be open later, and be more aware of their soup reserves. That said, everyone was friendly and what I did get to eat was tasty, so I would give them another chance. Perhaps my big-city standards are just too high ;)

Mattern’s is a beautiful deli in downtown Goshen. It just opened a few months ago. The menu looks very enticing and full of great adjectives to describe the signature sandwiches. Unfortunately I have not found that their sandwiches to be as good as expected. A month ago I had the pulled pork sandwich which was not a full meal and just some sliced pork with bbq sauce on top. Nothing else. The fact that I could not get a glass of water for free was also a bit annoying. Today I thought that I would give them another try and I had the Buffalo Chicken Breast sandwich. I was disappointed to find that it was just deli chicken slices with hot sauce poured over top and a slice of American cheese. Nothing else. So I hope that the sandwiches improve because the deli looks great and it helps improve the looks of downtown. I hope they can stay. Oh and they do have free WiFi, but no outlets to plug into.
