Bluegreen Vacation Shenandoah Crossing, Ascend Resort Collection

Great place to stay. We go every year and have started inviting friends along to enjoy with us. It has a little bit of everything. It is definitely more rugged and less luxury but is perfect for people who enjoy rugged with the luxury of a resort atmosphere with pools, clubhouse, restaurants but also horseback riding, small farm, animals, a lake and plenty of land to walk, ride bikes and explore. A great time for everyone.

We bought this «vacation package» in a Bass Pro Shop in MD. First off, this is not a vacation package. This is a bait and switch scheme to sell you a TIME SHARE.
We did our research and it is illegal at least in MD to force people to go to their presentations. So if you live in MD you DO NOT HAVE TO GO.
That said the resort was ok, the cabins were ok, not better than a Howard Johnson Motel. The ladies at the front desk were really nice but I do not like to be lied to.

Not enough plugs or outlets, no place to get coffee in the morning, keys don’t work most of the time, no maid service. Wouldn’t come here again.

Upon arrival great welcome at the front gate security personal. she is very welcoming she should be working at the front desk and the girl at the front desk should be in the security gate the front desk personal look vex and constipated look not even a welcoming smile. Then the sales rep for the time share after promising that it’s only 90 mins. of you time if you say NO. A video presentation is given for 90 mins. And afterwards your rep. Explain the same BS. you Just Watch IN THE PRESANTATION. Telling you that a time share is an investment. Timeshare are not investment
1)not a Investment it looses it’s value after that a car. Ask anyone one with a timeshare you can’t sell it .you can’t even give it away
2)all you are doing is prepaid you vacation
3)BASS pro shop should never affiliate it self with bluegreen resort and time share it’s bad for business.
Apart from all of the above if you can look pass that or somehow dodge the shady people op bluegreen this place is great for kids it experience some outdoor ruggedness with luxury. Great cabins and tree house, pool horse back riding, etc.

This is a time-​share resort, and we come here with family members who like to get everyone together here. It’s an ecological disaster-​zone, though they appear to have done some storm water runoff work since we were last here. Cabins are basic. Ours was clean this time, but it hasn’t always been that way, and the front desk has not, historically, been particularly responsive. Isaks (sp?) Tavern is overpriced, but better than the restaurant before the fire. That one was like a canteen. This new one is a notch or two higher, but prices are too high for mediocre food. General Store is overpriced for not too much available, so stock up at the local Food Lion and cater for yourselves. (Make sure you have pots & pans — they frequently go missing.) There’s lots to do with the kids, and it’s a good base if you’re visiting the local wineries. The BBQ Exchange in Gordonsville offers the best barbecue in the state!

I am not finishing up my stay at Shenandoah Crossing and wanted to send a quick email about my experience at the resort. When we first checked in, we were sent to room 206 up a flight of stairs with our belongings. When we opened the door to 206 clearly it had never been cleaned. The beds had been slept in, the soaps were out, and the tub was dirty. No big deal. We went down to the front desk and asked for another room.
The front desk then said «how would we know if a room is clean or dirty». Isn’t that the job of front desk agents? To know who has checked into rooms and who hasn’t? We then went to check into room 208. The room was cleaned and lacking any toilet paper. I called down to the front desk, who then asked us to come down and get toilet paper. I work in the hospitality and resort industry and run my own luxury camping company. I would have been appalled that anyone would have to go to the front desk to get their own TP.
The next day we decided to go to the hot tub. We dive over to the location to see what looks like vomit in the hot tub, that no one is cleaning. Even when we alerted staff nothing was taken care of. We then tried to go to the other hot tub, except it had been broken.
We came back to the room and wondered why it had not been serviced. This is a large resort! We called down to the front desk and they said housekeeping is EXTRA. I have NEVER stayed at a resort where they CHARGED for housekeeping. That is insane.
We then tried to get a late checkout, just one hour later. Again, we were told we would be charged for that.
Overall, this has been the worst hotel/​resort experience that I have had in a very very very longtime. Many improvements need to be made and I am shocked at the lack of staff knowledge and the carelessness shown.

Made a reservation 24 hours ago for my husbands 70^th b’day but then began having second thoughts after reading lots of negative reviews so I called to cancel. Good thing I did because they had booked us into a room, not a cabin as requested and we would have arrived and been very upset. It would have ruined his birthday because we were not interested in staying in, by all accounts, a small hotel room and would have had a booking problem on-​site with, as many reviews suggested, less than effective check-​in staff. If you book this place, be sure to call back and confirm you actually are booked into what you requested. We dodged a bullet. Whew!

It has a beautiful ambiance, it was nice to be able to walk up to the horses and pet them by the fence. There’s a nice outdoor pool with plenty of seating, spa and indoor pool were under construction, which is not a big deal. But we had a bad experience there. The front desk personnel couldn’t even fake a smile much less acknowledge my husband when he had a question. Left him standing there and wouldn’t even look at him to avoid talking it seemed. Upon check in, the lady was not enthused about life, again fake it, if you’re the first person a customer meets you’re also the first impression. This place is also a timeshare, so when we went to concierge, she was polite and tried to offer us a tour we were not interested in but appreciated the customer service. The room was less than clean, there was trash and dirt behind the bathroom door. Not that it was swept there but it was a big oversight for a simple fix. The last straw came at checkout, we got $ 55 of random long distance phone calls from our room when we weren’t even there. Not once did we pick up the phone. I don’t know many people that use landlines nowadays anyway, most cell services include long distance calls. This lady was cordial about it and said she would address it to her manager but there wasn’t a manager present that we could speak with this morning. Overall, not impressed.

Lobby may be new and beautiful but. The experience has been getting worse every year and this years is already off to a bad start. Showed up at 3pm and by 507pm no room.
The staff is completely handcuffed or callus or unwilling to help out. They appear to be way understaffed and unable to meet their 4pm commitment for check in time. They tell me the room is ready but not inspected yet but they refuse to even let me know what room. I have an exhausted 2 year old and melting ice cream and she could have cared less. Just quoted me policy and offered a bag of ice and an ice bucket. The line for check is is absurdly long and multiple people are getting frustrated in the lobby and the two additional staff members at the desk that wants to give you a sales pitch act like the swamped check in desk does not even exist. I will say the two women are treating everyone equally but dear lord please get your staffing levels up and FIX YOUR PROCESSES.

Not even staying, husband trying to get refund right now — and we just got here less than 20 mins ago! Room not cleaned well, no plastic bags for the ice bucket (bar area offered a grocery store bag with ice — but yet room has no refrigerator for it!) was told they never HAVE plastic bags for ice buckets. Hello!!! — remember that You-​Tube clip of hotel cleaning crews and how they «clean» (or rather DON’T!) glasses, etc? Where’s the sanitation here! Coffee maker and supplies stored in bottom of armoire, and there’s no where to put them if you try to use them. No room on tv stand, nor in bathroom — unless you just want to put it on the back of the toilet! Trash and sort in the drawer of the chest, and I’ve never seen such shoddy work in making the beds. I tried to straighten out the beds to remove the lumps from the hurriedly making-​up beds. Btw-​make sure to pull the door very hard to close, otherwise, it won’t close well unless you slam it, & even if you hear it click — it’s not totally closed! The only thing this has going for it — it does have a cute décor — except for the books in lobby that are all missing the covers! I should have seen it coming when the public bathroom at check-​in office was totally out of paper towels!!!
1 hour later: bathroom at check-​in lodge STILL out of paper towels!
We had to stay the first night or forfeit the $ 110.00 dollars. Upon climbing into bed — I noticed
that I had a visitor!!! What else can possibly go wrong???

WI-​FI code doesn’t work!!! This place sucks beyond all measure!!!
One thing that I DO like about this room: the «nightlight» in the bathroom!
Mgr «couldn’t» refund so we stayed the night, and the bed was actually comfy. Once again, I was greeted in the shower by a small flea-​size insect crawling on the curtain. What’s with all of the insects in this hotel???

When you are looking for a relaxing getaway come stay here! Horses, putt putt, gym, running path, marina, dining and so much more.

My wife and I stayed in a yurt, here, back in February/​March of 2014. It was off-​season, so, it was VERY quiet, and very nice. The staff were friendly at check-​in and check-​out, and, even more so at the general store/​deli. We spent a lot of time hanging out there, since the lodge was still being repaired.
The pools are heated, so, you can even swim when it’s nasty-​cold out, and there are a LOT of activities available. The horse based activities, you have to pay for; but, activities like mini-​golf and ghost stories around a bonfire are completely free, and things, like the bonfire, really add to the feel of the place. If you do get bored, though, there is a DVD rental office, and each movie was, I think, $ 2/​rental, not bad if you really can’t find something to do.
I only have two pieces of advice about staying at Shenandoah Crossing; stay in a yurt, and go off-​peak. The yurts are FANTASTIC!!! Rustic, simple, comfortable; but, they do let a lot of sound in, so, going at peak times means LOTS of people sounds, instead of nature sounds. The roof of the yurts are topped with a clear, plexiglass dome, and, I’ve got to say, waking up with the sun is, actually, REALLY nice. We loved the yurt, and will be back.
This is, by far, our favorite Bluegreen resort, to date.

Great place to live play and commute if you work in Richmond or Charlottesville. New Homes at The Crossing is affordable for retirees and first time home buyers. Built with quality and superb craftmanship! Richmond Building group model coming soon!

Totally impressed! Check-​in was a breeze and everyone one was very polite and friendly. My keys did not work but a call to the «desk» and 5 minutes later a staff member arrived with a new set. Truly 5 minutes! The bedrooms are a nice size, each with a flat screen TV and very nicely appointed. The beds themselves are top quality and comfortable. The kitchens are very well stocked with cooking utensils, serving utensils, eating utensils and pots and pans. The cabins could easily be called luxury, which makes this my kind of camping!
We are here for a wedding and the staff has worked to see that many of us are in the same general area, a nice touch that helps make the weekend even more fun.
During the night I find a medium sized cockroach (bug size is very subjective) in the bathroom sink, easily swooped down the drain so there was no need to put the bug under a glass and wait for some one else to take care of it. We are in the woods, we are camping, bugs are just to be expected.
I would come here again!

Nice place for a family vacation. We went for Thanksgiving and the catered meal was terrific. The condos are nice, nothing special but comfortable.

We have gotten into booking time here during the run of the State fair of Virginia. Yeah, it works out to be about an hour and change drive to, and from the fair each trip. Less than our drive from home.
I like this place. Our last two trips were in Yurts, which in themselves, are interesting. Word must be spreading because they were booked solid when we tried to make reservation early this year.
We were put in one of the older cabins (a tap in putt from the end of the lake). We did not know that had we asked beforehand the resort might have been able to help us with steps. We discussed this on arrival. As it was, we were given a cabin with manageable walks for us.
A week before we arrived, we received the expected call; we have an opening for an owner update. Care to be scheduled?
We said no. Told the gal we were coming as ‘tourists’; meaning we were on a strictly pleasure trip, and were not expecting to attempt to transact any business (the ‘sales’ pitch. That’s one.
During check in, we were pitched for an owner update. No, we said. We had explained what our trip was about, but thanks, but no thanks. That’s two.
At 20:30 (that’s 8:30PM for you city slickers) the phone rang. We have an opening in the morning. Care to have an owner update? No. That’s three.
At 09:00 (that would be nine Am for everyone) the phone rang. We have another opening. Care for an owner update?. No. At this point, I kinda/​sorta let the gal have it. In less than 24 hours we have told the resort No to an update.
Does No mean No?
Not here, I guess.
By this time, this relentless badgering by the sales staff was wearing on my nerves.
Our cabin was in much need of the oft mentioned, we update our rooms every 5 years treatment. It being 30 plus years old, was showing it’s age, some.
Aside from the beat up-​ness of the place, we had a wonderful stay. Once we got the spiders and webs out of the corners and bath’s we were in high cotton.
Only observation we have about the cabin functions (aside from it needing a good cleaning) was the TV. Being out at the end of the old units, we were able to get 3 or 4 channels on the TV, where we could see them. The rest, due to weak, leaky cable, looked as if the TV screen had been wiped with lard and glitter. Meh.
We made use of several of the on grounds amenities; the pool/​hot tub and mini golf.
Work, while woefully behind (according to the maintenance man I spoke with) continues on the rebuild of the main lodge. A new ‘Smoke House’ is up and running next to the pool complex.
I like the peace and quiet of this place. Next time, we will call ahead and arrange a ground floor cabin, which will make our broke down backs much happier while we schlep in luggage.
If you can get the sales people to give you some peace (No. Really. No does mean No.) you’ll enjoy your stay here. (Unplug the phone from the wall, next time?)

Had a fantastic stay with my family. There aren’t many places that can comfortably accomodate a party of 6 (ages toddler through adult) while including a list of activities and amenities for under $ 200 a night. Our 2 bedroom/​1 bath cabin was well appointed with an eat in kitchen where we cooked quite a few meals, gas grill/​picnic table on the deck, queen bed/​tv in one room, 2 twin beds in the other, pull-​out sofa in the den. Took advantage mini-​golf, pool/​sauna/​splash park area (towel service a plus!!), activity room, fitness center, outdoor chess, laundry room, pedal boats, s’mores with ghost storytelling by the campfire, movie night, and trails. Also participated in (what I felt were reasonably priced) pontoon rental, pony ride, and horseback trail ride – all very enjoyable! The staff were all very helpful, accommodating, and welcoming from check-​in to check-​out. They always had a smile and a wave and were genuinely concerned with enjoying our stay. I was offered a timeshare presentation, declined, and that was the end of it. Easy.
Not deal-​breakers by any means but worth mentioning… next time I’d book a unit at the top of the street. Our unit #83 was 35 steps downhill which is quite a bit of work after a fun-​filled day. Would like the fitness center to open a little earlier than 8am and maybe offer a fitness or yoga class. Bring ping pong balls as the dispenser was empty during our stay. The pool area would be perfect if there were few more umbrellas (tough to find a shady spot when it’s busy) and having the bar open (a frozen drink or lemonade right there could have served cool refreshment relief).
Outside of the resort, consider purchasing tickets for local sights like Montpelier – I didn’t get the chance to go, but the concierge offers a great discount. Honah Lee wine tasting/​bakery was wonderful. BBQ Exchange was delish and quick. Enjoyed Fabio’s Pizza spinach ravioli. PommeTo Go (affiliated with Pomme) should be opening this week. I enjoyed getting a dipped cone from Tastee Freeze – the staff were quite friendly and fun.
Sheetz Shmuffins and coffee via drive-​thru – Awesome!!!
I brought EVERYTHING but the kitchen sink from home not knowing all what they had onsite. Certainly don’t have to do that again. There is a WalMart and a Food Lion not far away to take care of your sundries.
I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for the great outdoors with a relaxing and beautiful atmosphere with the option of having an activity filled day.

They did everything possible to ruin a romantic getaway. Let’s start with housekeeping barging into our private cabin unannounced. Thank goodness we had the second lock. There was no warning knock. We let it go as an honest mistake– but then it happened AGAIN the very next morning around 8:30am. Different person. Again no warning knock or a announcement. What’s up with this place barging into private cabins?
Second– we receive a call re tour of the property.
Dont mind the call– that’s marketing. But I do mind a call at 9pm at night!
Husband and I were ready to leave– we will not come back and do not recommend to others– or bring extra locks for your door!

Very nice resort stayed in a yurt for 4 days. Has nice facilities pool golf lake. Only bad thing was the closes store is food lion an it had pretty poor selection of meat. Ended up back in charoletteville to a krogers.

We went here on the Bluegreen/​Bass Pro deal for my husband’s birthday. I was not impressed with the Bluegreen Vacation Club, but that is another story. This review will focus on the resort. Which we have learned you can visit without being part of that club so we will be back to try the Yurt or cabin. On this visit we stayed in the lodge.
First the lodge was pretty clean and pretty. It needed some area that one could go and read or chat. Our room was small and a bit dated on par with a mid level hotel room. There was a very strong fabre smell in the hall so not sure what they were trying to cover — thankfully it wasn’t in the room. I never could get the wi-​fi to work and it took several tries before the TV would turn on. Didn’t see a cleaning crew once, so we ended up using the same towels for both nights. We did get a very nice courtesy call the second night so if I had been pressed about towels, more coffee I could have asked.
The on-​site restaurant was great. We had breakfast there twice and dinner once. I’d suggest going there just for the food, but don’t go late as they closed at 9pm.
They had a game room/​activity room that was OK and a very nice gym. At the lodge were both indoor pool and outdoor. There were additional pools on the property, but they were closed. General store was open.
The property was beautiful with open fields, forest areas and many activities, boating, fishing on lake, mini-​golf, half BB court, tennis court, stable and probably more, but as it was in the 20’s that week we didn’t venture outside much. I did check out the stable and was pleased to see that the horses were all well cared for. Their 9 year old turkey was very entertaining and well worth the stop at the stables to see.
We drove around and their campsites were amazing — there were your normal ones with fire ring/​grill and then the super ones — paved, outside kitchen, tables and one even had a hot tub (cost on retail sheet showed super spot only $ 89 a night).
I must admit I was happy to find out that I can book a room in the lodge or rent manor house/​cabin/​yurt or tree house without buying into the club:) With all the activities we will have try them again in warmer weather.
