Reasons to Join
— We provide info on the fishermen, how the seafood was caught, prep
tips & recipe suggestions.
— You pay less than retail prices for higher quality fish.
— We pay fishermen better prices & give them advance notice so they
can better plan their trips and work efficiently.
— Unless you catch it yourself, you can’t get it fresher. We never freeze it!
— Our fisheries are well managed with many preventative & adaptive
measures in place to protect against overfishing.
— 5% of the share price is donated to support the fishing community.
History
Established in 2011.
California local seafood is some of the most environmentally friendly proteins you can get, as California fisheries are some of the most tightly regulated and well managed in the world. If you buy from a trusted source, you avoid issues of fraud and mislabeling, which is estimated to be almost 50% of all seafood.
Supply chains are often long, spanning multiple continents, making it impossible to truly know where your seafood comes from, whether it was harvested legally and even what species your buying.
Community Seafood saw the need to do things differently. By cutting out the middle man we can provide incredibly fresh, local seafood all while supporting our community’s fishermen. Both our customers and our fishermen benefit as we strive to reduce the amount of seafood exported (currently close to 90%, most of it going overseas).
Join Community Seafood. You can taste the difference.

Business Owner
Sarah Rathbone came to Santa Barbara to study fisheries at UCSB’s Marine Science Institute and ended up working in the fishing industry itself. After a season on a lobster and crab boat, she decided to keep a little drier by focusing on bringing local crab to the Santa Barbara Farmer’s Market and launching and then running Community Seafood.
