Scissors Edge

Sorry lovely ladies of Golden, I would not recommend Scissors Edge. I’m new to the area and thought I’d give this place a try for a basic cut. First… I had to call a few times before I even spoke to a person — there is no receptionist.
I arrived for my 9 am appointment a few minutes early… and my stylist did not come rolling in until past 9am. My consultation started immediately. I explained what I wanted and was asked by the stylist if i wanted a shampoo? Of course I do! I had never been asked that before as I thought it seemed obvious and was part of the service. My hair was cut without asking me about where my part goes… so now I have a cut for a part on the opposite my usual part.
I’ll save the readers the details of how the stylist heavy pressure sale lady’d me into thinking my hair was so dry I absolutely needed saloon quality products.
Once the cut ended… it was awkward! Like the end to a first date — I wanted to get up and out of there ASAP… stylist never offered to show me the back of my hair in the mirror, didn’t usher me towards the counter to pay, she just sat there. I finally got up on my own and went to the counter to pay. Come to find out, the Internet system had been down for 3 days and I was only going to be able to pay in cash. No one told me or prepped me for this — and now going to the bank needed to happen immediately so I could pay. This saloon was such a joke I debated leaving and never returning. I did bring my cash back… no one greeted me acknowledging my presence or thanked me for my honesty.
This place bares an Aveda sign for advertising… if I were Aveda I would ask the sign be removed. This saloon operated more like a Cost Cutters than any Aveda saloon I have ever visited.

I’ve struggled finding a good salon in the west suburbs, so happy to have found Scissors Edge! Compared to many of the Denver salons, this place is much more affordable. I’ve seen Stefani twice and had great cuts both times, plus she’s quick, so I don’t waste my day in the chair.

It’s a shame I have to write this review because Stephanie seemed very sweet. But unfortunately the cut and experience was a nightmare.
First the experience: I came in Tuesday afternoon for a haircut apointment and the salon was completely empty, and Stephanie greeted me and seated me right away. After a 30 second mediocre consultation I figured we were on the same page about fixing my bang mess and just cutting long layers. Then she asked «Would you like me to shampoo?». Is this not a customary thing during a haircut? I have never been asked this before? Being one of the types that doesn’t want to upset the stylist I just said if she didn’t think it was necessary then it’s fine not to. I didn’t want to put her out. But I clearly had creases from a pony tail and all kinds of crazy waves going on. She decided she would «just wet it». Cool. So she grabs the spray bottle, sprays my face and a bit of my bangs and leaves the rest of my hair completely dry and in the mess it was when I came in. At this point I told her I didn’t need a blow dry because really whats the point at this stage. So she went into the haircut, which she did dry, except for the wet portion of my bangs.
Now the cut: It looked fine when she was done. About 5 minutes later. She cut the layers a bit shorter than I wanted but I will chalk that up to the poor consultation. But here is the kicker. She didn’t even touch my bangs. Didn’t even look at them. And that was the one thing I wanted help with from the get go, the whole reason I scheduled the cut! So I brushed it off as being better just to get out of there and never look back. I was charged 30 bucks for a terrible cut that took literally 5 minutes and with no wash or blow-​dry or products of any kind. I could have gone to great clips for this. Also, I am not cheap, I am willing to dish out more than 30 bucks for a great cut, but not for this! So, I swallowed it and moved on. I was in the salon all of 17 minutes. No joke. And I was a new client.
The kicker: After I got home, I decided to wash and style it myself, to see what I was working with. Wow. The left side was a full inch longer than the right. None of the layers are blended it looks like random chunks of different lengths and the bangs, as expected were the same mess they were when I went into that place. So I ended up grabbing my scissors and evening things up as best I could on my own because I knew if i went in for a fix it would just be shorter and that’s the opposite of what I want. So now I am at square one again. Growing out a bad cut, with bobby pins and ponytails. And still on the hunt for a decent stylist.

If there is a god, I’d like to thank her for Stephanie. She took what was the most horrendous haircut of my life (that I got from an «upscale» salon in Boulder) and turned it into something chic and stylish. To fix the cut had gotten two days before, she had to cut a good portion off of my hair. My husband, who detests short hair, said «it looks way better than it did,» and from him that’s an A+. I’m very thankful that the salon could get me in the same day that I called, accommodated my daughter being with me in a stroller, and also gave me a great haircut at an affordable price.

I am always on the search of the perfect hair cut place that has a wonderful blend of affordable talent. I’ve been to a couple of the hair cut discount chains and have had hit or miss service… I know, I know, you get what you pay for. But I don’t dye/​highlight/​or process my hair in anyway. I respect the talent and time of the people doing my hair but seriously… I shouldn’t have to pay $ 80+ for a decent reliable haircut!
I am newer to the area and finally decided to stop procrastinating on getting my haircut. This place had the best reviews and prices in the area so it was decided I would give them a try.
I am SO glad that I did! They were able to see me that day. I was nervous about getting my long luscious locks chopped off. Stephani was my hair stylist. I showed her a picture of a style I wanted my hair cut. She did such a fantastic job! She styled it super cute and I left feeling all glam. She informed me of all the products she was using without being overly pushy about it like most other places I go to. I enjoyed her skill and trusted her so much I ended up buying some product she suggested for me and I love it.
You know how you end up leaving the salon looking fabulous and the next time you wash your hair you can’t even replicate anything close to as awesome as the stylist did it? She made my hair so manageable that I was actually able to style it on my own once I got home and into my regular hair care routine. I’ve gotten so many compliments!
For my haircut, product, and tip it ended up only costing $ 60! What an awesome deal for a great experience.
I almost can’t wait for my hair to grow more so I can go back again! I am a fan for life!

It took me three years after moving to the area to find a salon that will give me an affordable AND quality haircut ($ 30 without styling+tip). As a student, these can be hard to come by in Boulder! Fortunately, Scissors Edge is just down the road.

We just moved into the Golden area from Alaska. I was nervous about finding a new hairdresser, as I can be pretty picky! Got a haircut, highlight and brow wax with Stefani today. She clearly has a talent for hair design! I got an A-​Line cut, which can be difficult to make look even and balanced. She did an excellent job with the balancing, and the highlights look fantastic too. Even better, I was in and out for all three services in under two hours. This is a nice salon with a home town feel. Disregard the Tuesday $ 25 haircut, as they no longer offer those. Regardless, the prices are not bad compared to other Aveda salons in Denver (and even the Aveda salons in Alaska). I’ll definitely be coming back.

I was so worried about getting a new haircut (I was cutting near ten inches off) but there was no reason! This was one of the best haircuts I have ever had, I look and feel great. She took directions, and practically read my mind!

Had Jess do my hair yesterday. A dark brown with a hot pink streak, and it turned out GREAT! My only complaint is that it is a little pricey (was $ 110.00) for just color. I am not a seasoned dyer, so i’m not sure if this is normal price range. The experience was nice and the color turned out great.

Pretty upset about my haircut. Hoping they’ll fix it

As a 20 something, it’s hard to find a good salon that is affordable but does a good job. I just stayed working in golden, after being overwhelmed with the options I Denver, and out of money after visiting salons in my old suburb, I was happy with my experience at scissirs edge. Jess cut my hair, the experience was quick and conversational. I was told on the phone my haircut would be $ 30, $ 5 more if I wanted it styled. I should have specified at the beginning of our session because she styled it without asking so it was $ 35+ tip. Well worth it. Cute location, cute salon, cute haircut. Highly recommend.

I visited this salon yesterday for an appt. with Jess. I had never been there before and was pleasantly happy with the service and the cut. I was a bit nervous as I was getting long hair cut short but Jess is excellent. She listened to what I wanted and gave me a cute stylish short cut. Staff very friendly and appt. prompt. I would def. recommend this salon and will be back for trims.

I’ve had a difficult time writing this review because the staff there is so great. The lady that cut my hair was extremely nice and very easy to talk to. I really wanted to like my haircut because she was so nice. I decided to come here because of all the great reviews, not to mention the price for a haircut was only $ 25 (if you go on Tuesday).
Let me preface by saying I have unusual Asian hair because it’s very thick and I have a lot… and I mean A LOT of it. Without a doubt the one thing I hear every time I go to a new hair stylist is… «Wow, you have a lot of hair». I hadn’t cut my hair in over a year so it was very long. I asked her to cut off 6-​inches of my hair, didn’t ask for anything too special other than that. After she was done cutting, she asked if I wanted her to blow dry it but it seemed like she was a little busy so I told her I could just do it at home. When I got home… I started to blow dry my hair and while I was doing it, I thought something was a little off. My suspicions were 100% confirmed when I saw that my hair was crooked… CROOKED! One side was at least 1-​inch longer than the other. To illustrate how crooked it was… I was telling one of my guy friends about it and his response was, I’m sure it’s not that bad. To show him, I took my ponytail down and I (insert obscene word that starts with an s here) you not… he jumped back a little. put his hand up to his mouth and exclaimed «OH!» If that doesn’t tell you how bad it was. I don’t know what else to tell you. A guy was taken aback by how bad it was. And let me tell you. he’s not metro or into fashion/​hair. Of course when I think back about it now… his reaction was hilarious. But at the time, all I could think was, I’m keeping my hair up in a ponytail forever and never letting it down. But, instead of being that dramatic… I looked for a place to fix it. The lady who fixed my hair said that the original hair stylist probably didn’t know how to deal with so much hair. I won’t be back, but if you have easy hair (I have no idea what that entails), maybe you’ll have a better experience. In the end… it turned out to be a good story to tell my friends and family so they could laugh at me (A LOT).

I made an appointment at this place because i read such good reviews on Unilocal.I had a great experience! Amanda W cut my hair and she did a great job. I am that person who never gets my hair cut because I never know what I want and always end up hating what i get done. She did an amazing job and she was very nice. She did exactly what I wanted.
I moved to Golden about 3 months ago and I found my new salon!
They have great prices as well. Can’t beat Tuesdays… only $ 25 for a women’s haircut.

Great place to get a walk in mens hair cut. It was fast and looked great. Thursday is mens day and cuts are $ 17. I will be back again!

Great deal (I happened to pop in for a $ 20 cut and style on a Saturday, price is usually around 35), friendly and down-​to earth staff, great location, fantastic cut that was exactly what I wanted… need I say more?

I can’t sing their praises enough. This little shop deserves ten stars. And I don’t say that about just anywhere. They don’t have a website, so I’m not positive of their specials but I believe they’re closed Sundays and Mondays. And Tuesday is Men’s day. So getting an appointment is kind of hard on Tuesdays. I let the boys play that day. Wednesdays? Perfect. Lisa is amazing, as is JoAnn. Lisa always does exactly what I want her to do, even if I don’t tell her. JoAnn is the highlight master. And you know what? They’re CHEAP. CHEAP CHEAP. To get my hair washed, cut, dried, and styled? $ 25. To get my hair washed, cut, highlighted, dried, and styled? $ 90. I DARE you to find that anywhere in Denver. I used to be able to just walk in for a cut in between jobs, but they’ve started picking up a lot of business so I usually make an appointment. But you don’t have to book years ahead, usually just a week is fine, sometimes less.
They offer other services like nails and tanning and massages and hair extensions, but I’ve never taken advantage of those. I’m a Plain Jane. But really, these girls know what they’re doing, they’re pleasant to chat with, and at prices that can’t be beat. Who doesn’t want to spend a couple hours in Golden, anyway?
