Excellent Mexican! We’ve been going here since El Corazon closed in 2014. Service is consistently good, friendly. The dining area is clean, neat. Food is really, really good! The chile rellenos are spicy, taste homemade. For a special treat try the carne asada — an awesome plate with seasoned steak, sauteed onions, fried potatoes, shrimp, rice and beans. Margs, chips and salsa — all excellent. Desert — you must have the fried ice cream; it is delicious and is nicely presented with strawberries, whipped cream and a cherry on top!

Would HIGHLY encourage everyone to stay away. I made the mistake of telling my friends this place was good. Ugh! The waiter, Anthony, was as rude as I’ve ever experienced. After 20 minutes waiting for our queso, when asked, Anthony said ‘oh, yeah, I forgot that. Do you still want it?’ (This was after another table came in after us, were served & almost finished before we received our app). When our dinners eventually arrived, they were wrong. He set one down & went to retrieve the others. Upon returning, he slapped down two plates and promptly whisked away the original ‘right’ plate saying ‘this isn’t yours either’. I feel sorry for the person he most likely served it to. Please, stay away from this establishment. It’s not worth the headache. The owners should focus on customer service as a priority, not as an after thought.

I’ve been coming to this place for 16 years. Great authentic Mexican food run by great people. Plus, it’s affordable and they’ll get you in and out. If you don’t know what to get, ask for a #12 and a corona. You won’t be disappointed!

By far my favorite! Don’t let the outside fool you. The chile relleno with the vegetarian green chile is the best. And I had to go out and buy Gran Gala to try, emphasize try, to duplicate the Golden margarita.

I came here with some coworkers and had an extremely average experience. Basic décor, mediocre service, bland food. Okay prices but not the greatest value for what you’re getting. I don’t plan on coming back.

Horrible Mexican food. Dried out fish tacos that tasted like rubber and stale chips. The salsas are the worst I have ever tasted. Should be called el no go. Avoid this place if you do not want to ruin your intestines.

Love this place. Food is always really good, prices are reasonable and there’s almost never a wait. The crispy chile rellenos are outstanding, not too spicy.

I love Mexican food. My ideal lunch date is margaritas with chips and salsa. Maybe throw in guacamole and/or chilli relleno. I did it all here. A friend suggested it and about 10 of us met up there for margaritas. It’s small on the inside but didn’t feel packed. The service was very friendly and our server did a good job keeping up with our crew. We all ordered pitchers of margaritas, both the house and an upgraded tequlia. I thought they were great! They weren’t too sweet as some can be. The guacamole appetizer was fresh and delicious and came with fried tortilla chips. I also got the chilli relleno plate and loved it. I’m a chilli relleno addict and I’m pumped to have found this place. I usually don’t care for them crispy, but this promised to be a famous home made recipe so I tried it. I don’t regret it. The salsa was yummy too, not to spicy but a good flavor. I don’t know how we missed this place but we will be back for sure!

This is much more of a bar like atmosphere. There were a bunch of drunk people and even the waiters and waitress were doing shots with the customers. The food was extremely low quality and was not even hot when it came out. Better quality food at Taco Bell and I always hate to eat there. Spend your money elsewhere.

The place was fairly empty and the service was fine. The drinks were tasty but weak. The food was somewhat plain and could do with more seasoning. Wasn’t terrible but wasn’t awesome, and I won’t be back.

This is wonderful Mexican food! This hole-in-the-wall«neighborhood» place was outstanding. The salsa is spicy good –the homemade tamales are awesome — everything we ate was delicious — and the atmosphere is inviting. Even the locals were friendly, joked and interacted with us. We were there with a large group(20+) and had a great time. One of the servers, Antonio, was so friendly, inviting, engaging and accommodating. Being a large group with multiple tables, we asked him about separate checks and he said no problem we can work it out; however there was another server in charge and he was not so accommodating and he was very rude. He kept reminding us that we did not tell him — we were burdening him — in no certain terms, he did not let us forget we were inconveniencing him. He took over the processing of the bills and was extremely put-out by us. We left the minimum tip but We made sure to tip Antonio well as we appreciated his attitude. Food was a 5 — Antonio was a 5 — locals a 5 — rude server was a 0 — so a 3 overall

I read all the reviews, and we had an entertainment book coupon, so we thought we would give it a try. I agree will all the reviews that the refried beans are excellent. They are very freshly made with cheese on top. I had the Pollo Asada tacos. These are four soft shell corn tortillas with nicely spiced chicken on top with guc and lettuce on the side. They do have varying degrees of hot sauce, so be sure to ask for how spicy you would like. Service was good and they have a daily 2 for 1 beer and margarita happy hour from like 2PM. to 6? or something in that range. I was a bit disappointed in the chips and salsa. The chips are not freshly made and seemed like they were from a bag. However, all of our choices were very good. It is quite cute inside. I would not have come in as it is a bit divey on the outside, but after reading Unilocal reviews, we gave it a try and were not disappointed.

Really? I took the wife here based on the positive reviews. I actually feel sorry for the people that reviewed this joint highly, they have obviously never enjoyed an authentic home cooked Mexican meal. I have seriously had better at taco bell. I will never be back and never even think of this place again. And what the heck is up with those stale chips and salsa, I should have left after that sign. The wife’s green chili actually looked and tasted like stokes seasoned with black pepper. I waited a few days to finish this review to see if my opinion had softened… It most certainly has not!

I have had this place bookmarked for a while, and we finally got to try it. I am seriously wondering if I went to the same place as the other reviewers? We came in and found a table. It took our servers a long time to acknowledge us, bring chips and salsa, and take our order. They were seriously short staffed in the front of house, as there were two guys working around 16 tables. We thought about leaving to go somewhere else, but since the place was packed, we figured we’d tough it out. After we placed our order, we waited. We watched as another table with 5 kids get the kids’ meals first, while the 3 adults waited. After about 5 minutes, they finally got their meals, which they had to rush through because their kids were almost done with their entrees. And we waited. And watched as people who ordered after us were served their food first. It couldn’t have been too hard to do a burrito, tacos, quesdilla, and enchilada. Especially after we started eating them. My chicken burrito was so bland, I couldn’t tell I was eating chicken. The enchilada sauce was not flavorful. The only thing that really had any flavor to it was the sour cream on top. There were a couple of harder beans in the burrito, which I assume come from being over cooked. My husband’s tacos were so spicy, it took a while for the ‘burn’ to get out of his mouth. The spice was to cover the blandness of his tacos. My kids, who love refried beans, pushed them around on their plates until they were done eating. My son hardly touched his quesadilla and my daughter didn’t eat more than a bite of her cheese enchilada. Overall, we were very disappointed and we will not come back. I debated giving only one star, but the two friendly and hard working servers bumped it up to two stars.

We had a craving for Mexican food, and we had a good coupon for this place, so we went. Our coupon was a «bogo» from the Entertainment book, and it was cheerfully honored at the restaurant. The restaurant was very easy to find on South Golden Road near the pizza parlor, but the parking lot is a bit tight — not a whole lot of room for parking. You can’t tell much about the place from the outside, but inside it is very cute, and very traditional. We liked that it appeared clean, and well-maintained. You can even see part of the kitchen from the dining room, and it looked to be in order. We ordered margaritas to start, and here’s a tip for you. It is cheaper per ounce to buy two, 20oz margaritas instead of buying a liter. You’ll get more, and pay less. The drinks, by the way, were pretty good. They weren’t too sweet, and they had adequate alcohol. One, twenty ouncer was enough for me. On the menu, we were delighted to find a number of vegetarian, and vegan options. We especially like that they opening offer«whole beans» in place of «refried beans,» and they also have a «vegetarian» version of the green chili that can be substituted for a few cents more. I went with the Combination Plate because you design it yourself. Just pick one, two or three items, and they’ll bring it out with rice and beans. I went with three, cheese enchiladas, and opted for the whole beans. The beans came in a cup a regular size soup cup, but the rice was hardly noticeable on the plate — like a tablespoon or two. The enchiladas themselves were rather small as well. Nonetheless, I liked the flavor of everything, I liked the service, and I liked this cute, little restaurant. I would go back, but I would probably go back more often if the portion sizes were a bit larger. My wife had the Veggie Fajitas, and they seemed to be a good value for $ 8.00. There was a good variety of vegetables, but a bit too many onions for my wife’s tasted. I ate most of those for her. I noticed that they only sent the dish out with two, flour tortillas that were about as big as two corn tortillas. It seems there should be a few more, maybe four altogether, for that dish. Nonetheless, these, too, were delicious. It was a good, afternoon snack. We also liked the chips and salsa. On a scale of 1 to 10, the chips were about 5.5, and the salsa about a 7. Not our favorite, but still quite good, and still complimentary. They didn’t charge us any extra for extra salsa.

This is more like a 3.5STARS and potential returns in the neighborhood if needed to be. Was here with Hubs after work. Tried to find some decent establishment to have something to eat, and I suggest to Hubs about El Amigo Mexican Restaurant. In the same so called strip mall, some sort of it. there are like a Pizza eatery a couple doors away, but to El Amigo Mexican Restaurant we went. Wednesday March 21st2012. Time about 21:10hrs ish. Right when we entered, we were greeted by the server and given the menu. The dining area seemed like they put«the „old old“ west décor»… with a touch of Mexican flare. Since it was just us, I like the«quiteness» to have my meals here. We were the only patrons dining in at that hour. Perhaps its late to have so call DINNER, but those are the times, we can have dinner after working long hours. The menu is simple. Here was what we order that evening : * El «Bronco» Chimichanga(Hubs Main Entrée)($ 6.95) * Fajitas De Camarones(My Main Entrée)($ 10.85) * Shredded Beef Tacos($ 2.00) * Mexican Coke Cola for Hubs The chips and salsa was just MEH. Our food came like about 10 to 15 minutes after we order. Everything was done piping hot and fresh, which Hubs rate his order 3.5 stars. The portion of the food is huge, and filling. The pricing of Main Entrees from El Amigo Mexican Restaurant are reasonable. As for me, I dont really fancy my order of Fajitas De Camarones. The dish comes«sizzling» on a hot plate. Its just shrimp with onions and bell peppers. At least the shrimps are cooked just right, NOTOVERDONE. I so wish, if the dish have more flavors and HEAT in them AKASPICY! Unfortunately it does not. *Sad Face* Oh well. As for the Shredded Beef Tacos, I opt for the ones that comes with Soft Tortillas instead. Nothing fancy nothing stellar. But since the waitstaff and the server is indeed accommodating to our needs, this establishment has potential for us to return. Perhaps my next visit, I might order some other thing rather than their Fajitas De Camarones. *Note to Self* @51/2012

Foods legit. The waiter was lackadaisical but maybe understandably? Unilocal has the joint closing at 10:00pm. We got their at 8:45pm but after we finished eating they closed the joint and our waiter said they close at 9:00pm. I used to friggin hate LMA diners too when I worked restaurants! I’d go back if I was up this way. The al pastor tacos although not off a spit were still tasty with little chunks of fresh pina. Salsas were meh. Sure, I’m a salsa nazi but what’s so hard about having good salsa? Quince.

In town on business tonight and had a hankerin’ for good Mexican food. I went to this place because the fellow Unilocalr’s provided some good reviews. This place was great. I had the pork la Mexicana. The pork was tender and the special sauce was sauteed with jalapenos and onions. Perfect spiciness and awesome flavor. The service was great as well.

Family run, service is wonderful, courteous, vegetarian compliant. Do not let the front of the place turn you away, it’s what’s inside that keeps this restaurant going, now since 1985. ¡La comida es sabrosa y rica! Los hermanos son cortés y agradable. Recuerdan sus clientes porque ellos volven a este restaurant a menudo. Cuatro estrellas.

I am never in Golden, but found myself there yesterday after a meeting and was hoping for some yummy, cheap mexican food… I found it using my handy Unilocal iphone app– El Amigo! The old strip mall is nothing to look at but inside is functional and welcoming. You get to seat yourself. Staff was friendly, food was tasty, prices were super reasonable. What else could you want?
