Camden Denver West

Upon first moving in, we were very content with the apartment. But then things started going downhill very quickly. The AC broke in July, and it took them 3 weeks to finally get it working. Our dog almost died of a heat stroke, as we didn’t know it wasn’t working until we arrived home, and it was well over 100 degrees in the unit for 21 days. The appliances have slowly fallen apart. The microwave handle came off just yesterday, and given the pace at which maintenance works, it won’t be fixed for weeks. The kitchen sink is disgusting, as it’s white porcelain and shows nasty stains from the former tenants. The dishwasher doesn’t even work. It takes a minimum of 3 rinses before you can even consider eating/​drinking from the dishes again. You pay for the amenities, but don’t count on the pool or hot tub to always be in operation. The hot tub was closed for several months this winter because they were waiting on a part.
The office staff may very well be the worst I’ve ever encountered in a rental unit. They are not friendly and are nothing but robots working to enforce every intricate detail of the lease for their corporate owners.
Overall, the location is great but is overshadowed by the pure incompetence of the staff and the deteriorating appliances. When our lease is up, we will be moving to Montrachet or looking at other developments in the Golden area.

I relocated from AZ months ago and I’m so pleased I chose to live at Camden Denver West. The location is awesome to hiking trails and the town of Golden has great dining. My apartment is very clean, updated and has a full size washer and dryer. I have a dog and love that the complex offers a dog park too.
The office staff is so professional and helpful. They made my out of state move so easy.

I’ve been here for 4 years. It all started nice, but turned into a disaster. This is my last lease and I will try to keep away from this place in miles. The biggest issue is, of course, the ever increasing rents. While they try to justify higher rents with the overall increase, the market cannot explain why a guy from the street can get much better deal that someone already living in Camden. And I am talking like $ 250/​month better deal, which happened to me when renewing my lease the last time. I went online and saw that Camden offers the same apartment like mine for $ 250/​month less that what the renewal offer was for me.
This was for the people who are thinking of staying more than one lease. For those who just want a short stay, Camden apartments are really cheap inside. Windows especially are a complete crap. If you do not mind having large chunks of ice on the inner side of your frames both windows and balcony door then Camden is your place. Overall, not worth a single dime, stay away.

My mother always told me that if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. So first the nice. The proximity to hiking trails is wonderful. And that’s about it. I have never written a review this vitriolic because I don’t often believe the hyperbole that gets tossed about on review sites, but Camden should be avoided at all costs. Sorry mom.

It’s really as simple as that, so I recommend going across the street to the Montrachet as it’s more affordable and much nicer, and from what I’ve heard, the staff and residents work hard to establish mutual trust and a sense of community. Camden is not a community, it is a corporate entity that will do everything and anything to nickel and dime you, including lying to you about what you will owe before you sign on and what you end up owing when you decide to move out. All the other reviews are accurate (except the guy who wrote about your car being stolen, but he sounds awesome, doesn’t he?!); Camden is the Comcast of apartment complexes. They don’t understand the concept of customer service on any level. They will raise rates for people who want to stay while offering someone off the street a deal you as an existing tenant can’t get. I assume this is part of some strategy to take advantage of ridiculous rent rates in Denver at the moment, but one would expect someone at Camden corporate to have gone to business school and understand that it costs four times more to bring in a new customer than to retain an existing one. It’s actually incredible to have been a part of such a shocking customer experience. In kinder, more empathetic moments I feel a little bad for the staff at Camden because after dealing with their corporate staff, it is clear that nickel and diming to get a slight increase in profit is systemic at this company. The staff likely want to be better as they seem like genuinely nice people, but can’t due to the restrictions and goals placed on them.
Here is my somewhat elitist comment that you will either appreciate as a review reader or not. By operating as it does, Camden seems to attract a lower class of tenant. Cars drive onto and around the property late at night making lots of noise with silly mufflers and the like. A younger person than me would describe it as ghetto or trashy, especially when you factor in the cost. The pool is a disgrace with non-​stop smoking and drinking that makes it rather unsuitable for young children, especially on hot summer days. Basically, there are a lot of abysmal people living at Camden, and I have seen more than a few one-​bedroom units with more than 6 people living in them, but Camden just wants money to hit sales goals from corporate and couldn’t give a toss about creating a nice place to live where you can get to know your neighbors. If you consider yourself an upstanding person who is fortunate enough to be able to afford Camden’s high rents, I would highly recommend you look elsewhere as Camden, while expensive, is a haven for the type of people who can’t even be bothered to pick up after their dog.
And that leads me to my favorite story about this truly dreadful place. The grounds seem nice at first, but upon closer inspection you notice there is a serious rabbit problem with droppings covering nearly all of the property. That’s actually not a huge issue given the location and it’s what one might expect, but Camden saw the bigger problem being dog droppings, which are there, but not everywhere. Instead of a rational approach, which might entail hiring a company to clean up both rabbit and dog droppings, Camden decided to institute a dog DNA testing program (I’m serious) where all dogs had to have their cheeks swabbed so that Camden could identify pets whose owners were not picking up after them (again I’m serious). I thought this was very funny only because I don’t own a dog, but I decided to ask Camden how they would pay for this expensive program, and they told me current residents wouldn’t pay and it would be covered in future resident rates. If you’re reading this looking for an apartment, that’s you. Camden thinks you’re a schmuck who should pay for their lousy management, and the amount you pay will increase for every month you stay in your unit. But Camden has a doggy DNA program that hasn’t seemed to reduce the amount of dog dropping and certainly hasn’t addressed the real problem of rabbit droppings, so hey, that’s something.

Finally, good luck in your search for an apartment! I hope you find a nice home. I hope you found my review helpful, and I apologize if my vitriolic tone seems a bit extreme, but I think anywhere would be a better option for you than Camden. I barely made it six months, and another month would have resulted in this review being all caps because that’s how you know someone is really mad on the Internet :)

I’m torn between wanting to come back to live here or finding something reasonably priced and less luxurious… I adored having the trails right outside my door. I loved the cleanliness and quietness of this place. The price is something I can’t control and personally it’s absolutely over priced to a Colorado native such as myself. Every time I had an issue with our apartment Maintenance was on it. Dana, I adored. She was so understanding with us if we ever had payment issues prof I locked myself out. Like i said, it’s expensive. But you get what you pay for. Unfortunately we can’t afford this place no longer but if you can it’s well worth the cost.

DO NOT RENT HERE! I AM WARNING YOU. This place is an absolute crap hole. This place looks nice from the exterior, but heed my warning, they are junk on the interior. Pair this with an incompetent maintenance crew and a completely useless management staff, you have yourself a dump to live in. We had nothing but a horrible experience at this place. We paid over $ 2000/​mo for a lousy 2bd/​2ba stink hole. It’s riddled with large spiders and worms, plumbing leaks, poor fixtures, and the lowest grade appliances available. You can hear your neighbor walk across the floor and flush the toilet every darn time. It’s as if the architects had no idea this place was intended for multi-​family living. We are bothered by a 3 yr old playing in the unit above us. Now this isn’t right. I love kids. But to hear them walk across the floor above us is down right annoying when all you want is to NOT hear anyone. If you enjoy the outdoors, BEWARE! There are mounds of dog crap throughout the entire property. It’s down right gross to attempt a walk around the place. The hot tub is a nice feature, but no matter how well you wash off, you will stink of chlorine for days. And don’t turn the jets on, the darn thing foams up like nobody’s business. The staff here doesn’t care about you or your belongings. So don’t expect peachy smiles and a positive sentiment from them. Try Montrachet across the street. I’m sure you’ll be MUCH happier.

Camden west apartments are really great! My apartment is huge and everyone is friendly. Every time I have needed something fixed, it is fixed immediately. The location is perfect for shopping. There is a mountain trail right behind my apartment, and I hike it every day! No complaints at all!

I think if you spoke to most residents at Camden Denver West you would get a really good review. Unfortunately, Unilocal seems to always attract the negative. The facility is kept very clean and safe. Plus, there’s plenty of parking. I love having an attached garage. Lori, the new manager is fantastic. She really listens and tries to resolves issues as quickly and efficiently as possible. I have no complaints with the staff. Nice pool, jacuzzi and work out facility. Great views, near shopping, movies and restaurants and easy access to HWY 6, HWY 93, I-​70.
There’s approximately $ 100 in additional monthly expenses for water/​sewage, waste valet pickup and cable for the building that are required. I suggested they include that in the monthly rent. I prefer knowing all fees up front.

Have you ever wanted to wake up feeling safe? Well, you won’t here. The Camden offers a large area to park your vehicles, which is streets from the jail. If your car or any property happens to get stolen they will lie to you and not even help you. Every night while you’re sleeping in your illy painted walls and unsealed windows, just remember that eventually your car will get stolen. The office workers are worthless for everything. They don’t know their own policies and treat you like you’re an animal. I don’t think I have ever been respected by a single person in that office that is a female.

Camden is awful. I have never experienced anything like it. The rent doesn’t seem that bad until you learn that you have to pay for valet trash. $ 40ish dollars for cable, regardless if you want it or not. Washer and dryer are not included in that price. $ 60 cleaning fee when you move out, even if you clean yourself. All of these things I could have been ok with but the staff is the worst! Lori and Jose, on the maintenance staff are the only people worth speaking to. I had so many issues with different things and people were rude and unwilling to help. There were a lot of little things but I had one huge issue with a leak that turned really bad, really fast. I had submitted a maintenance request on the 24^th of July about water being on the floor. David on the maintenance staff came to check it out and found no leaks. Later there were more leaks on the bathroom floor. David came to check it out again and found nothing and installed splash guards in the tub and told me that I was getting water on the floor. I explained to David that I was not, the water was appearing on the floor in the morning before showers took place or randomly at night when no one had been home all day. He flat out told me that what I was saying couldn’t be true and began arguing with me. I asked to speak to his supervisor. So later that day I got a call from Travis, who is not worth speaking to either. He pretty much told me the same thing, that David was correct and that I could not be telling the truth. So completely frustrated, I let it go. Water still appeared on the floor and I could hear dripping in the middle of the night but could never see where it was or pin point where the sound was coming from. Five maintenance requests later and a month and a half later, I move clothes in my closet, that shares a wall with my bathroom, to find a basketball sized mold spot on the wall from water had been leaking and no one found. I sent a maintenance request and the next day people were there to cut out the moldy drywall. However, when I came home from work that day they had left the drywall on the bathroom side of the wall with mold all over the inside of the drywall!!! I took pictures and went down the the office to speak with someone. the manager was there that day and I spoke with her. I didn’t show the pictures right away but told her the issue first and she told me that I was being untruthful and they got all the mold there was. I then showed her the pictures of the drywall covered in black mold and she asked me to email her the pictures and she would take care of it. I didn’t trust anyone at this point and had someone stay at the apartment the next day to make sure the drywall was taken down. It’s a good thing I did because maintenance showed up to put up new drywall and paint. Fortunately they end up taking down the moldy drywall but after a 10 minute argument and someone putting their finder through the soggy, moldy drywall. Even after all that I never received an apology for being called a liar or any of the trouble. This place is the worst! Do not move in here.

They raise your monthly rent after the end of EVERY lease, yet someone off the street could sign up fot a new lease hundreds less per month.
Small garage
Force you to pay for their cable. If you want satellite, you still pay for cable.
Morale of the story:
If you dont live there for long, its a great places to live. After three years you’ll end up paying about $ 300 more per month.

We’ve lived here for over a year now, and I have to say it is a double-​edged sword living here. On the good side you’re seconds away from the mills and all the cool things Denver West has to offer, just a quick drive to Downtown Denver. You also have the option of a private attached garage which is hard to come by. You’re also right on south table mountain, the workout facility is free and the pool is decent. Now for the downsides: Cheap as hell appliances, over priced rent and a bull crap Comcast bundle which you HAVE to pay for in you rent. We had a pretty annoying neighbor above us as well, but I can’t really fault Camden for that. They don’t scrape and de-​ice the stairs like they should, so I’ve flown down the cement stairs like a slip & slide more than once over the last two winters we were here, and they don’t allow bbqs on your porch… though that is because of JeffCo rules. Also, pet deposits are $ 500 dollars, so just be warned up front. We have a cat and that’s still what they charged us. We’re ultimately leaving because they’re increasing our rent by $ 200 a month for a one bedroom, and you don’t get nearly enough for what you pay for. All in all I’ve enjoyed living here, but I think there are better places to live for the rent they charge you here.

I lived there for about 3 years in 3 different apartments throughout the complex. It was pretty nice when I first moved in, but over the course of the 3 years it went further and further downhill. Slow maintenance, plenty of apathy in the front office (with the exception of Michelle), and the pool/​gym area wasn’t the cleanest. On top of that, one year the outdoor hot tub was broken all winter long, which is when most people use hot tubs, not when it’s hot out. There was always some excuse why something wasn’t working or fixable, but minimal effort in actually fixing the problem (s). Finally I gave up, moved across the street to Montrachet apartments and it’s the complete opposite! I’ve been a very happy tenant ever since moving into Montrachet.
