History

Established in 1985.

Tanganyika Wildlife Park is a private, family-owned zoo that receives no government subsidies like most zoos. They started as a breeding facility for rare and endangered species over 30 years ago. Today, Tanganyika Wildlife Park is one of the most successful breeding facilities in the world with more than 30 breeding programs for animals like the Amur leopard, clouded leopard, African honey badger, snow leopard, white-handed gibbon, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, etc.

In 2008, Tanganyika Wildlife Park opened to the public and began to share their world-class collection. Tanganyika opened with 15 exhibits in 2008 and has grown to 39 exhibits in 2015 including species like white tigers, okapi, siamangs, pygmy hippos, southern black rhino, etc.
