Turtle Alley Chocolates

I had the good fortune to find this treasure last week. I was staying in Rockport and usually head to Bear Skin Neck for treats to bring home. Being busy catching up with family that I went to visit, I didn’t have the opportunity to do so. On the last day of my brief vacation, I had a meal with my aunt in Gloucester and decided to do some quick shopping there, before heading home. I was on the main street in downtown Gloucester & asked a store owner if there was a candy store in the area. He told me that Turtle Alley was on the next street over, parallel from where I was. If you like Reese’s, you must try their peanut butter balls. Amazing! I had the milk chocolate. I’ve tried a lot of chocolate peanut butter candies and these were the best. The buttercrunch was also excellent (I chose the dark chocolate, but they have milk chocolate as well). I also enjoy coconut, and purchased dark chocolate coconut «haystacks» and also a Mounds-​type candy. They are chocolate overload… you could have one piece at two different sittings… half a portion is more than enough sweetness! They also have penny candy (my kids, although grown, still like the memories of candy necklaces, candy dots that you eat off the paper, and rock candy on a stick) & some novelty items. It was my last stop before heading home on a 2-​hour trip. The non-​pareils and turtles were calling me during my drive (everything, pretty much, is available in dark & milk chocolate). The girl that waited on me was very patient & pleasant, and a young man who was making candy, greeted me as soon as I walked in the door, as he was closest to the entrance. I will make a point to go back here when I visit the area in the future. Enjoy!!!

Stopped here while visiting Gloucester. My friend loves chocolate and so do I so I was really excited when I walked in. You literally see the workers making chocolate as soon as you step in. I bought a few Chocolates, Caramels, and Candy and they were all pretty good!

My cousin and her boyfriend came back from their trip to Massachusetts a week ago from a Thanksgiving weekend. They brought back gifts and Turtle Alley was one of them. Turtle Alley’s turtle cluster chocolates are amazing! Made with fresh, quality ingredients in small hand crafted batches, if you like chocolate in general; you’re bound to fall in love with Turtle Alley instantly. My favorite has to be the cashew turtles with any type of chocolate. If I ever venture out into MA, I’ll definitely come to this store to try more of their concoctions!

When my family visited Salem a few years ago I brought back Turtle Alley Chocolates to my co-​workers who raved about them.
Lately, my sister has been working hard on some family matters so I wanted to send her a treat and chose Turtle Alley. She has declared that the peanut cups should be illegal.
I ordered by phone, the service was courteous. The person who took my order went out of her way to explain that the order would not be shipped until after the weekend.

Any time my family and I head up to Gloucester we always end up getting something from Turtle Alley. Consistently wonderful people serving a consistently wonderful product. Each of us has our favorites and there is always something new to try. The reason I feel compelled to write the review is that we had never had anything shipped before. We and had a very last minute request for party favors that were reasonably priced and made it on time for the party. Another great experience. Truly great service is difficult to find. Truly great service combined with a truly great product is noteworthy. Make a note of it!

Fabulous! My husband is a Nichols fanatic, but I am firmly in the Turtle Alley camp. Friendly staff and fascinating candy-​making machines dripping with molten chocolate. Try their spicy chipotle bark and chipotle turtles.

i grew up on nichol’s chocolates (as my mom worked there for a bit), so i originally felt like a traitor going to turtle alley. here’s the thing, though… turtle alley really shouldn’t be overlooked. this is some serious serious stuff. the lovelies at turtle alley have the golden ticket recipe for chocolate, and they come up with some amazing concoctions.
as much as i cringe at the term, i would consider myself a chocoholic. i am an extremely healthy eater, but i’m not thin because i need chocolate several times a day. this is real. turtle alley makes excellent, smooth chocolate that makes mainstream, brand name chocolate taste and feel all chalky and gross. the turtles are UNREAL. the non-​sticky caramel and the salty nuts and the perfect portion of chocolate on the top and the bottom make for an amazing treat.
i’m a big fan of the almond bark, and basically anything they serve covered in milk chocolate. HA. i can’t even narrow it down. the dark chocolate is good too, btdubs, but i just really like their milk chocolate. they have a ton of different options, and at one point they had a chipotle turtle, which was FANTASTIC.
everyone is super friendly at both turtle alley locations.
it was absolutely dreadful living down the street from turtle alley. i’d walk to the train station before they opened and get back into gloucester after they closed. torture. stupid 12.5 hour work day.
make sure to check out turtle alley around fiesta time. they do a chocolate-​covered greasy pole display in the window. it’s super cute.
