Kenneth Chan Photography

Kenneth did our family photo shoot twice, and we’ve loved the work he’s done both times. He gets great candids and posed shots. He has a great knowledge for places to shoot and puts incredible time and care into the touch up of the shots. We don’t hesitate one bit in highly recommending him for any photo shots.
Kenneth is not only a photographer, he’s also an educator. He also taught my children the art of digital photography. I have them take photos with my phone now as a result of the things they’ve learned from him about composition and set up.

Kenneth is a very good photographer. He knows how to sit people, so they look their best. He can show you how to pose. His work was on time and he responded immediately. I would recommend him as a photographer.

We found Kenneth on Unilocal and he scheduled a family photo shoot with us and our three children. He was so accommodating to come and meet us all the way from globe! As soon as the shoot began my 5 yr old refused to take pictures and threw a tantrum! Then the 3.5 yo decided he was tired and finally the baby tried to crawl away! Kenneth not only kept a light hearted attitude the whole time and kept snapping pics– but despite the non cooperative episodes he managed to get some of the best photos we have ever taken! It’s almost like he photoshopped well behaved kids into our shoot! Thank you Kenneth! We recommend you to all our friends!!!

Kenneth is awesome. He is very relaxed in his approach and professional in the final product. It is always a bit of an ordeal to take a family photo. We have two active little girls and a special needs son. Kenneth, who is also a long time friend, is very patient and works quickly which really helps my family. He was also willing to try lots of different settings and look for a good shot that worked with all sorts of combinations of people. Stephanie, his lovely wife, has also been a big help on these shoots. I recommend Kenneth highly and without reservation

I worked with Kenneth last year on a home staging project, and he did such a terrific job that I decided to hire him for my fitness photo shoot. I live in CA and he in AZ, but he is so trustworthy and so talented that I didn’t want to hire any local photographers but Kenneth.
As for the fitness photo shoot, the shots had to be taken perfectly because the pictures were going to be submitted to a fitness competition that would feature me as a main model for a calendar. How well the shots were taken was the fine line on whether I won a main spot in the calendar or not. But Kenneth nailed it! He really nailed the job perfectly! Kenneth was so detail-​oriented and so meticulous that he took the time to ensure the lighting was right, the mood was right, and the posing looked natural and beautiful.
And Kenneth is so easygoing and has such an affable nature, that you can’t help but feel at ease, even when doing a photo shoot in a bikini for a fitness competition. Kenneth made me feel so comfortable that my shots definitely showed how relaxed I was, rather than awkward or ill at ease. And what a creative mind he has. My son was part of my photo shoot and Kenneth made the session really fun and worthwhile for him. Because let’s face it – what child is willing to tolerate a long photo session? But because Kenneth encouraged my son to pretend he was a super hero, the photo shoot turned from a chore into a really energetic and fun session! When I showed the pictures to other people, one of whom was also a photographer, that person readily professed that Kenneth did indeed have talent and creativity in capturing the shots he took.
Finally, I told Kenneth that the submission requirements for my fitness shots were extremely tight that he literally had only a couple of days to return the final shots back to me. And once again, Kenneth didn’t fail me. He worked through his Thanksgiving vacation, which he could have otherwise been spending with his family. Kenneth edited and cleaned up the shots, and made sure that the pictures were of the correct format and size for the fitness photo requirements.
I know I can and will trust Kenneth with future projects. He’s just that good and that professional that I cannot think of hiring another.

I hired Kenneth Chan to come to our home in San Ramon and do my daughter’s senior pictures. Because the right lighting outdoors is so critical, he came out at 7:00am and spent 2 hours. He shot pictures in various location and with various props & outfits. And even took some headshot pictures of my husband for his band flyers, as well as pictures of our two daughters for our Holiday Card. Kenneth was awesome! And the proofs were posted online in 2 weeks as promised.

I was part of the «First-​Time Grandmas» group with Bobbie S. and thought Kenneth was wonderful. His explanations were technical enough to be useful, but clear and relevant enough to make sense. As a former educator, I appreciate good instruction, and Kenneth has a gift for relating to his audience on the most effective level. He’s very down-​to-​earth, so at no time did I feel too intimidated to ask questions. He taught through his own beautiful work, and explained just how he was able to achieve the various effects. Now I just need to put what I learned to use!

My daughter and I took a basics class from Kenneth which we purchased from Amazon Local deal. Kenneth is a great instructor! Knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating, he had a terrific presentation but stopped frequently for questions, hands on practice with the cameras we had brought, and additional relevant information. Can’t wait to go out and practice with aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings now!

Kenneth was amazing to work with for our executive photos/​corporate headshots! We had used another photographer originally who unfortunately didn’t have enough experience in this area and the photos looked like passport pics. Kenneth was very flexible with a tight schedule because we did these photos alongside a board meeting and made everyone feel really comfortable. He clearly has great intuition for helping people who aren’t used to being photographed feel comfortable in posing, which makes a big difference in the final product. The photos he took of our team turned out great, making use of natural light for a much more warm, yet professional set of final photos. I’d recommend using him for your photography needs in a heartbeat!

I recently purchased Kenneth’s Amazon Local deal which included three photography classes (Basics, Adobe Lightroom, & Hands-​On Practice Clinic) for the awesome price of 79 dollars!!! This 4 hour session was super informative and very hands-​on. I currently use a Canon 7d with a 50 mm and 17−40mm L as my go to lenses. I have a very clear understanding of the ins and outs of my camera and now prefer to shoot in Manual. The other class member had a Nikon 7000 and was also able to learn everything I did from Kenneth. He has a full working knowledge of Nikon and Canon cameras. His patience and deep knowledge has made me a big fan and I plan on taking 1:1 classes in future to further my skills in specialized photography.

Kenneth is fantastic – we hired him to do our corporate head shots after working with him at a private event. The event photos were amazing so we wanted to bring him in to capture our small start-​up team – which he did with flying colors! He really went above and beyond! He came to our office, arrived early, and fully prepared – he made all of us (including our office dog!) feel so comfortable in the spotlight and made sure that we were happy with the final result. His personality and energy are wonderful and we all not only had a great time but we got very professional head shots that we’re so excited to feature on our website. I would highly highly recommend Kenneth for head shots, corporate photos and special events!

Since getting head shots with Kenneth, I got a new camera over the holidays that I have not learned how to use yet other than the default auto setting. I heard that Kenneth also offers photography lessons for beginners so I decided to take a personal 1-​on-​1 class with him since I’m going on safari and I want to learn how to take awesome shots. Needless to say, it was fantastic! He walked me through the basics of what all the dials are for (P, auto, M, A, etc) as well as photography principles like playing with depth of field, ISO settings, aperture, and shutter speed. We talked about composition, lighting, when to take pictures in RAW mode and I’m confident that I’ll be able to take much better shots next month when I head on vacation. Thanks again!

I hired Kenneth to do a 2 hr introductory class on food photography for my team — he did an awesome job!
Pre-​class:
We worked together to define the exact curriculum & format of the class. Since most of the team didn’t have a lot of photography experience, Kenneth recommended a one hour theory and one hour lab/​practicum class, which worked out really well! Kenneth also had some really insightful questions that helped me think through what I wanted the team to walk away with.
Class: Theory
The content Kenneth covered was perfect — broad enough that the team got a sense of the concepts/​equipment/​techniques/​vernacular of the photography space without being overwhelmed, but deep enough in specific areas that the team walked away with a pretty good understanding of 2 – 3 concepts. The examples Kenneth provided were extremely helpful too — you could quickly begin to see & understand the difference between a more «professional» shot and an off-​hand beginner shot. Kenneth also talked through the artistic and technical elements of photos — I found that really helpful for internalizing the «photographer’s eye».
Class: Practicum
This was probably my (and many others’) favorite part — getting to take pictures and play with the photography equipment & techniques we’d just learned about! We set up a few scenes and talked through the various aspects– lighting, composition, etc. And both live, during the shot, and after, we were able to compare a straightforward shot with a more experienced and nuanced shot.
Finally — Kenneth is just great to work with! He brings really strong technical understanding of photography & digital media and pairs it with a thoughtful, warm and very client-​friendly approach.

I took a food photography workshop with Kenneth yesterday – he was great! It went at the right pace, he showed us some really helpful tricks and valuable techniques and tools. I’m excited to put the new learnings to use, I think it will really improve my shots.

Kenneth came to our company and taught a group of our photo editors and bloggers about food photography. He spent an hour presenting introductory concepts from camera specs to lighting and composition, explaining even more technical concepts in terms that were easy to understand.
Our team really enjoyed learning from Kenneth and I definitely recommend his educational sessions for individuals or groups!

Kenneth is really easy to work with. I found him online and had 4 days to pull together a «photo booth» for our company holiday party. Luckily Kenneth was free. He arranged to have an assistant at our party that would help guests pick and print photos they wanted right at the event! The prints had our company logo, event name and the date on them and they looked amazing. He even added a snowflake at my request.
I appreciated that although EVERYONE was late to the party due to an accident that had shut down 280, packed 101 and an accident on CalTrain that delayed people by nearly 2 hours, Kenneth was on time! I could breathe a little easier as I crept along in 5mph traffic knowing that at least that part of the set-​up was taken care of.
The event went later than expected and Kenneth just kept on working. He was very understanding about the party getting a late start.
Once the alcohol started flowing and inhibitions were lowered, people really got in to the photos and I saw some great shots in the free online gallery Kenneth set up for us. He sent it to me just hours after the event was over (1:30am!) and I was able to send it out to all the attendees early the next morning.
At our party, our company held a raffle and Kenneth donated 3 free 8×10 prints to our event which was awesome! Thanks for the generosity, Kenneth!
Overall, he was great. The photos looked great, the price was right and the vibe was positive. I would definitely hire Kenneth and his camera to capture another Gigya event!

Kenneth photographed a work event that I was a part of. Not only were his pictures great, but Kenneth masterfully handled the group. I would use him again in a heartbeat.

Kenneth rules! He helped take professional headshots (and fun group pictures) for our professional business fraternity at Stanford. They came out fantastic. He’s a great guy to work with and I highly recommend him.

Kenneth shot my theater company’s production in San Francisco and did a fantastic job. He was communicative, professional — both before and after with email communication — and during the shoot, was efficient and prepared during the shoot, got our photos to us in a timely manner, and the best part — the shots were GORGEOUS. Our plays are highly physical — and that is what drew me to Kenneth’s work in the first place. He captured the action of the play, including dance numbers, jumps, fast movements amazingly, and the shots themselves were gorgeous. I did not know Kenneth before the shoot — I found him on Craigslist and selected him based purely on his portfolio. I would recommend him to any Bay Area theater or dance company looking for a photographer. He is outstanding.

I did a worksho with Kenneth for Scott Robert photography. Kenneth was one of my favorite photographers. He made me comfortable, told me his vision so we could work together and overall a great person I got along with. In the end I ended up with some amazing photos. I highly recommend having Kenneth do your photography, you wont be disappointed.
