History

Established in 1974.

Kevin Schneider bought Rock Gardens Mobile Home Park and Rock Gardens Rafting in 1989, turning it into the Glenwood Canyon Resort and ultimately the Colorado Adventure Center — one of the largest activity centers in the entire state with locations all over Colorado. In 2014, the Schneiders and their staff are celebrating their 25th Anniversary. My Husband wrote this in first person. It actually goes by Glenwood Canyon Resort.
NOT A RESORT, MORE LIKE A TRAILER PARK IN A VERY NICE LOCATION. When we booked the reservation we were told that we would have to pay in full at the time of booking and it was nonrefundable. This is a location that wants to be sure they have your money so no matter what your experience is you can’t leave and you can’t make changes due to unforeseen circumstances. We never experienced this before, even at locations that truly were resorts and were booked full.
I have a 40′ fifth wheel. We arrived at 12:15 PM, 1 hour and 45 minutes early which is unusual for us but this was a short drive from Grand Junction, Co. The kid behind the counter told me that we would have to wait until the 2 PM check in time because spaces were not available even though the check-​out time for RV’s is 12:00 PM. He told me they needed time to clean up the sites. He recommended I use a road side rest area nearby and return at 1:45 PM. As I left the office I walked down to the parking areas and noticed at least 12 open spaces that would accommodate my rig. When I returned to the office I began talking to a second person because the kid was selling T shirts. I explained to her my situation and offered to pay for the additional night so I could park my rig and they would have the benefit of double booking the spot for the previous night. The kid interrupted the conversation and told the other person he would take care of it. He then told me as way of an explanation that he had to follow protocols. He charged me $ 23.00 for a two hour early check in. We full timed it for about a year and now take frequent trips all over the country. This is the first time I was ever treated like this.
There were Bear sign warnings all over the camp, yet the dumpster was over flowing and could not be secured. Two days later it was emptied, however a steel bar painted the same color as the dumpster was used to prop the lid open.
IM used the men’s restroom once. The toilet was not secured to the floor properly and appeared as though it would just tip over.
They have a restaurant and other attractions, however because we felt we were treated so poorly we did not use them.
THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT YOU ARE TOLD AT THE TIME OF BOOKING: IT YOU TRAVEL WITH FIREARMS BECAUSE YOU ENJOY THE SHOOTING SPORTS OR FOR WHATEVER REASON, THEY DO NOT ALLOW FIREARMS ON THE PROPERTY.
It is a shame because this location is excellent. You are just off the river and it is beautiful in the canyon. The only thing holding them back is how they treat their guest because they are losing business as a result of their protocols.

This was the icing on our trip we took a ½ day trip with Stu he was amazing and very ez on the eyes (we called him our bronze God) Jk He was very thorough and was all about safety and making sure we had a great time (don’t go with stu if u don’t want to have fun) The whole staff was great and friendly. The price was great was reasonable this is a must … Oh please tip out ur guide and let them know what fun u had … We have made friends for life … Love this

Just went on a half day rafting trip and would highly recommend Rock Gardens for rafting. Our guide was safe and fun. We did not take advantage of their zip line course, campgrounds, cabins or RV sites but they look like they have nice facilities — especially the campsites along the river.
