I’m so surprised about the last review on here because my experience with Dr. Montalvo was beyond perfect.
Just had my first visit because my skin has been very dry and unruly from the change in weather and since his reviews on Zoc Doc were amazing, I thought it was worth going in. His staff is super cheery, warm and helped me with everything. I was seen right on time and the doctor was incredibly professional. He’s also very funny and cracked a lot of jokes, which I appreciated and it made me feel less nervous. I asked a million questions and he happily answered them all. Not only did he target the areas I was concerned about, he went the extra mile to make sure what my daily skincare regimen was and gave me tips on what to not do and avoid. Everything went perfect and everyone was just so nice… I even saw one of the receptionists helping an older lady leave the firm and making sure she was okay. I left feeling like I just saw someone I’ve known forever! Already told my roommate and boyfriend to make an appointment with him ASAP.
I never write reviews on Unilocal but my experience was so wonderful, I just had to. I will note that he spoke fondly of his family and it’s a shame that one of the reviews on here attacks him with a reference about his parents. Uncalled for and not an accurate representation of this office.

Terrible Dermatologist Experience
We had a family visit, myself, my daughter and my son. All three were terrible experiences. I am sorry I did not stop at the first. My family has a history of Melanoma, my grandfather died from it. I went to the visit and indicated some odd growth by my nose. This guy took a biopsi, then called me several days later… yes it was basal cell carcinoma (skin cancer). Meanwhile, never offers to do a full body check during the initial visit nor after determining I had skin cancer. I then asked why no further investigation… the response… well if you would like to come in for another appointment… it is up to you. My daughter had a mole removed. Unfortunately, the wound has not healed and continues to look like a stabbing/​butchering. Perhaps now I understand the Butchering… as this guy explained how his father was a butcher and his mother was a seamstress. He got the butcher gene, but received nothing from the seamstress. How Harvard can give a degree to such an inept person… really, very disappointing. I now need to take my daughter to a Medical Doctor that can help with the scars of the butchering. My son went for acne treatment, and received a topical cream… which has had minimal effect. No facial wash nor other direction was given to this teenager. As one of the other prior patient review said… to much of a hurry to provide full indepth assessment of the situation. Who needs this doctor.

I have been seeing Dr. Montalvo since he began practicing in 2001 and could not be happier with the service he has provided over the years. He is approachable, professional and truly takes the time to listen to and address all of your concerns. I have recommended Dr. Montalvo to countless friends and family, all of which still have shared a similar experience. Beyond the Dr. himself, his assistants and staff are extremely warm and welcoming. They have always done everything in their power to accommodate my needs and preferences. If you’re looking for a fantastic dermatologist I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Montalvo at the Illinois Dermatology Institute.

The most disappointing and rudest visit I’ve ever had with a doctor. Honestly, i cannot believe that doctors like that are allowed to operate out there. Please, do not go to him!
I came to him with what I thought was a wart on my chin. He briefly looked at it and said: let’s shave it off. I raised my concerns that it’s on my face and i need to know what it will look like afterwards. After that «Dr» said that he doesn’t have time for questions like that and he has other clients to attend to and walked out. Can you believe it??? I left in complete shock!
