This is by far the best Japanese restaurant in the Milwaukee area. The food is always hot and you get a portion comparable to the price. The lunch bento boxes are the way to go here! Dinner tends to be more expensive, but the food is really great so it’s worth it once in a while! :)

Really enjoyed our dinner there tonight. Got seated as the last 4 at a Hibachi grill and were served very promptly. The Hibachi chef was a lot of fun and great at his craft. The assembled group, most of us not knowing more than a few people, was aged from 5 to 85 and all had their phones down and laughing. Now that’s saying something in 2016! Top 3 items we had were ginger salad, plus shrimp and fried rice prepared at our grill. Have lived in the area for decades and never went in until tonight– glad we did.

Food was great!!! Some of the rolls had too much cream cheese which made them extra heavy. The Black Dragon roll had my eyes roll back in my head. The rolls were on the higher end of price. I eat sushi quite often, and for the rolls that we had while good, I don’t think they were that expensive. Every thing else considered, I would return. Susan the waitress is the sweetest and very helpful!

After going to Samurai several times before, I was completely disappointed when we stopped in tonight. So much so that we left. My kids have always ordered their hibachi dinners with noodles but this evening we were told that we had to order a side of noodles in addition to the dinners. The waitress even said it was ‘just a little bit’ for $ 5! I will drive all the way across town to Fujiyama’s from now on — we won’t be coming back to Samurai!

Go anywhere else but here! See some roadkill? Go for it. I guarantee it is a better option. The food was horrendous and our server didn’t say a single word until we were walking out of the door. The atmosphere was odd and we were uncomfortable from the time we sat down. There’s just something off about this place…

I’m from south Florida and we are a Mecca of great sushi. That being said getting off the plane and driving 15min to this restaurant was a very pleasant surprise! It’s very close to the airport it right of route 43 and has great food. We order the hella hot roll the amazing roll and friend rice. The service was great, the food was even better and the place was pleasantly busy, it obviously has a following Of happy loyal Customers. The rolls had great flavor, generous proportions and a killer price point. The rolls were huge and delicious with a unique twist on sushi with amazing combinations and fun unique rolls. It’s definitely worth checking out if your In the Milwaukee area!

Good food and great lunch specials. Service can be slow but overall, good place for sushi /maki rolls. Vegetarian options are better for lunch.

Normally service is pretty good, but today we sat for 15 minutes and no one even brought us water. When two people were seated next to us and the waitress came to them within a minute, we realized it was time to go elsewhere to find food.

The sushi was great, and the prices were good, but this is the worst service I have ever received and I will not be returning. Long waits on the waitress even though it wasn’t busy, and she was incredibly rude, and not at all knowledgable.

Unilocal experiment: Dined here without even looking at the menu and ordered solely based on Unilocal recommendations! Yum, yum, and yum! Looks like your typical strip mall sushi joint inside and out. The food, however, is far from typical — it’s pretty damn good! I had the vegetable gyoza(amazing dipping sauce!) and the Crazy Tuna roll(crazy good!). The servings were quite large. I could barely finish the Crazy Tuna roll. Service was average, but I was consumed with trying to defrost from the cold outside so I didn’t really care one way or the other how friendly the staff were. Two things that kept this place from getting five stars: 1. The saddest little teapot you’ve ever seen. It leaked everywhere and probably should have been eighty-sixed a long time ago. 2. It is really expensive! The Crazy Tuna roll was $ 17! That’s a good $ 5 more than what I think it would go for at other local sushi places. That being said, I’ll be back in a heartbeat the next time I’m on that side of town!

Samurai is very close to my work(so close that I can gaze upon my building while nomming on some sushi), so I come here during my lunch when I just need to get my rice and fish on. The place is always packed with business people, so they must be doing something right. Unlike what one would expect from a strip mall locale, Samurai is clean and not at all spooky. However, service can be hit or miss. One particular waitress takes her time(read: my precious lunch time) to mosey about without much urgency. But I’ve also enjoyed a rather snappy waitress who didn’t mess around. Let’s call it waiter roulette. I’ve order several rolls and none have blown me away. I honestly can’t recall any distinct or flavorful… ummm…flavors. On the other hand, nothing has been bad either. Samurai serves some solidly mediocre sushi. But who am I kidding… I’ll be back. When you gotta sushi, you just gotta sushi. You know?

Been here a few times and went last night for dinner. The sushi is pretty good but the prices are quite high. I think there are better sushi places in Mke with lower prices. Service was good. Looks like they have a lunch menu that might be a pretty good deal.

My favorite sushi restaurant in all of the great city of Milwaukee. Now, hear me out. The atmosphere here is poor. Like, in a strip mall with Polaroid pictures splattered all over their walls as you wait for a seat. But, get past that and the freshest fish awaits you. Hibachi tables, sushi bar. Yum. Yum. Yum.

I asked for a custom roll and received exactly what I described. In addition the tuna sashimi was very fresh and a firm cut. Really first rate raw fish. The portions are generous. They offer broad variety to accommodate friend that don’t like sushi. Prices are moderate. I like this place and will make it a stop on my next visit.

This place is fantastic. The food is consistently quality and the location makes it easier to get to than any of the places on the east side or downtown. The atmosphere is casual, and take out is a breeze. Hibachi isn’t too bad either.

Best Japanese on the Northshore I’ll start by saying I don’t frequent this place enough. As a cost conscious kinda of guy I typically go during the lunch hour. One can still get a lot of great food for a good price. If they’re not too busy they’ll fire up the hibachi for you. Otherwise, you’ll have to order off the menu. I could care less because I would rather avoid smelling like what I ate just for a show of flaming volcano onions and flying eggs. The food is consistently good. Perfectly packed rolls full of goodness, noodle dishes, hot soup, and salad with the amazing ginger dressing keep me going back. I usually go with a plate of sushi and chicken hibachi. The udon noodle dish is a four star, too. The service is quick(which I appreciate during the lunch rush) and not too chatty. I can’t stand servers that talk so much your food goes cold. You know the type. If you go on the weekend you may want to make a reservation for a hibachi table. They get really busy. Take-out is good, too. My dings– the price and the size of the restaurant. It can feel really cramped when there is a full house. But, then again, a packed house is a sign of greatness. That said, I digress and need to return sooner than later.

This is my go-to place for Sushi in the North Shore area. They have hibachi tables too but haven’t done those(although I have seen David Gruber enjoying his hibachi here one night). Having been here just a few times, I have had good service on all times excluding my first time. I was a bit taken back at the slow service, confusion, and wrong items being delivered but I am glad I gave it a couple more chances at redemption. They have great sushi and are very well priced too. I have had the sushi, the rolls, and the sushimi that are all very good. I would go with a couple standard rolls and choose one of their deluxe rolls since these are more expensive.

Lunchtime review seemed busy for a Monday 1:00. My sister and I were seated quickly and drink orders were taken. We were seated next to a loud talker. Ugh. You know the type… They are usually in a car or walking with the bluetooth earpiece. But in a restaurant??? Awww cawwm on! Other tables had conversations, but you don’t need to project your public address. I for one would like a choice in what I eavesdrop in. They had a selection of 5 Saki to choose from along with Japanese and domestic beers. We had shared a sashimi 10 piece and a plate of 3 rolls.(see pic) Both came with salads. The decorations are nice the booths looked cozy with good use of space. The east wall is running out of space for Polaroid birthday pictures. Salads were good. We finished then, we had a wait for the main course as they were busy. I got up to check the bar and only one guy working with 3 customers in back before I sat down the meals came Spicy tuna roll although large was not very spicy to me. The yellowtail and eel and cucumber roll were better. The sashimi plate was delicious. Green tea ice-cream was very good. Service was attentive and friendly. Can’t fault her if the sushi rollers were lagging. This could be an off day. I’m not giving up on you because you’re only 2 miles away. Total bill 37. +6 tip.
