This is a crap company with crap customer service I would never recommend them to anyone. I got my engine replaced in my Mini Cooper in January and in August the car started exhausting white smoke, all maintenance had been kept on the car on time. When I brought it to them they wanted me to pay to fix the radiator just to see IF that was the problem because they didn’t know. Then they wanted to tell me that my warranty wasn’t covered because it was a head gasket (which is a part of the engine) and lastly they told me that they didn’t have any of my information in their computers because their system has crashed. Convenient don’t you think? Stay away from these people they’re crooks!

was stuck to use this shop due to a extended warranty i purchased with my car.
this place will lie to your face and if you dont know any about cars you will have your car fvcked up and will loose everything if you dont take them to court after they try to work on it. Each time they said they would call and update (which went on for a good month) they would never return calls. Every time i would call to see what
else was wrong with the car that they tried to fix i got the same lame answer that they were still testing it or they found a different problem which had nothing to do with the original problem of the car. After 2 weeks of waiting and being bullshitted by them i scheduled to pick my own car up and did and drove it back to work to find transmission fluid dripping from under the car and also a few hundred dollar aftermarket part i had on the car disappeared somehow and but was lucky to get it back before they were able to sell it for profit. oh did i mention a sheared engine mount bolt and snapped hood latch which they denied that they broke (more bullshit).
You get the point… like wheres the customer service?
well after i had it towed back the DAY AFTER i picked it up repeat what happened above for another 2 – 3 weeks. Extremely strenuous while working a full time job… you will be pulling your hair out.

i told them to put a new transmission in to save their time and mine but NO… i guess helping ordinary people like themselves is not what they do. DONE

These guys are terrible. They will lie to your face with a straight face. I had my egine rebuilt here Of which they told me would take a week, it took 2 weeks and when I gOt the car back the horn wasnt working, it was shaking like a tree in a storm, had an oil leak, motormounts were broken and the acted like they were surprised. They new they screwed it up and thought they were dealing with some rookey. Rohaund is the most crafty, slick. Dishonest person you could ever deal with. They do not what so ever take responsibility for their screw ups! I am taking my car back for the last time so they can fix what they screwed up and if I dont get the answers and work completed, WE ARE ALL GOING TO COURT AND THEY WILL LOSE. ALSO BBB WILL BE CONTACTED AS WELL IF THEY ARE REGISTERED.

I have an extended warranty for my vehicle through Modern Engine. I’m going to be using such warranty today and I couldn’t be happier with Modern Engine’s staff customer service. I had a few problems with my warranty since the dealer who I purchased my vehicle from was very irresponsible and did not follow through with a paperwork deadline. After speaking with Modern Engine staff (Janet, Andrea and Armen) they were very professional and took care of my paperwork right away. The attention to detail and their concern for my situation gives me the assurance that I will get exceptional service even after my warranty expires in three years. I highly recommend Modern Engine to all those that are in need of extended warranty when purchasing a used vehicle.
Update after dropping of my vehicle:
I just dropped off my vehicle and Modern Engine staff continued their excellent service. I was being charged an extra $ 10 by J&J Towing just to use my Visa card to pay $ 30 for three mile of overage. I was very lucky that Armen was next to me… he came to the rescue and let me borrow $ 30 cash so that I won’t have to pay the $ 10 for using my credit card. I was actually planning to pay the $ 10 charge since I did not have any cash with me. I was never told regarding the $ 10 extra charge for using a credit card. Armen really showed how a company cares about their customers and strive for excellence. I was even told not to worry about the $ 30 until I come back and pick up my vehicle. Thank you again, Armen and Andrea! It feels great to know that my vehicle is in good hands.

WARNING: STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! TRUE STORY! We got an estimate over the phone for an engine replacement on our family van. When they got the van and had the engine they then called to add over 900.00 more! What are you to do when they say they will not warranty the work UNLESS you replace added items! The FIRST TIME the van was returned the carpet in the van as well as the upholstery was filthy! Full of GREASE & DIRT! The driver’s side door panel was all jacked up as well. The Cruise control was never hooked back up and the AC was going off and on! After about 6 – 8 weeks the van developed a loud knocking noise. I took it to an independent mechanic that diagnosed the problem so that Modern Engine could not say we did anything wrong. SO THE 2ND TIME I TOOK IT BACK they assured me they replaced the necessary parts! We got it back and it was idling high & now the AC was not working at all. So we drove back 2 weeks later and 2 blocks away as i was following my wife i see smoke & FLAMES coming out of the van! She stops at the light as people are flagging her down and is screaming thinking the van will blow up! I had a fire extinguisher and thank God was able to put the fire out! THE 3RD TIME they said they replaced the whole engine again!!! It came back to us STINKING FILTHY, FILTHY FILTHY!!! We took good money 2800.00 for a NEW REBUILT engine and was the worst experience of our lives! We bought a new car the week before because my wife would not get in that van again as she did not TRUST the work done by Modern Engine! I took the filthy van that they basically ruined to a car detailer to clean the carpet and the rest of the interior. I sold the van and i PRAY the new owner of the van does not have any issues, BUT I doubt it… I gave them the Modern Engine paperwork which is worthless IMHO! TRUE STORY STAY AWAY!

I called this company requesting a quote on a remanufactured engine for my truck. The price they gave me was excellent comparing to the quotes I got around the area where i live. The staff was very helpful and they even towed my car in the shop to do the work on my engine. I personally had a great experience with these people, plus I got my car back in a week!!! I can say I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family.

Armond you know me, my brother Mark took his car to your place and you had it for over a month and didn’t fix the car. My brother is now out $ 3,000 because of your shop. Not to mention your employees were extremely rude to both of us. This is not how you run a business if you want return customers and want people to refer people to you.

I am not sure what happened with the other people who wrote reviews for this place but my experience was the complete opposite.
I bought my warranty from Rays Auto Sales on Magnolia and when my oxygen sensor went bad I took my car into Modern Engine since that part was covered by my warranty. I was greeted by friendly people and they took my car in right away. I thought I was going to have to wait a long time for my car to get fixed but they actually got me in and out very quickly. I loved the service I received and would recommend their warranty if you are buying a used car.
Thanks guys I hope nothing else goes wrong with my car but I know I can count on you guys if something does happen.

I was suprised to see the negative feedback on Modern Engine… def not the case for me :)
I’ve had numerous bad experiences with mechanics through the years. I have an old honda civic that has given me significant problems in the past… So, as you know, its hard to find honest mechanics that will deliver on time for a price thats actually «AFFORDABLE». I landed upon Modern Engine by surprise as I was hearing awkward noises coming from my engine and I happen to be in the glendale area. Glad my car made it there! I was already having a bad day but the girls working in the front were SUPER nice! They were very comforting and told me that everything will be OK. They even offered to drop me off at my home since I didn’t have a car. Modern Engine ended up replacing my engine for an amazing price and my car was ready in just a couple of days. My car sounds great!
Thank you Modern Engine… I will be referring you to my family and friends with engine troubles!!! :)

Honestly, I’m very disappointed. When you take in your car, you see no difference because the work is never done right and my car ends up dirty for some reason.

THIS PLACE WAS A NIGHTMARE!
Car over heated, brought it in… two weeks later they call and tell me it’s ready. I leave work mid day and head over to pick it up. Car is still being test driven when i get there. THEN they tell me, after i left work to get my car, that they need to sort some more things out and its not ready to be released. WTF!
Thats jus the beginning!
They tell me itll be ready later that day or the next morning. next morning comes. no call. I give them untill noon before i call them. They then tell me the car isnt ready still and that i will get a call as soon as they know when itll be ready.
NO CALL FOR ANOTHER WEEK!
After a week i call them and ask them whats going on. They tell me some story about the car misfiring now and they dont know why. NOTE: the car had never misfired prior to bring it in. So they say they will need to keep the car untill they figure it out OR… get this… they say «our work is done and this is a new problem so if you like we can release the car to you and you can have someone else fix this misfire issue» … jus let that sink in.
I say fuck no you broke my car you have to fix it. They end up replacing a cylinder that takes them 2.5 weeks to order. Finally the car is ready. I pick it up and as im hopping on the freeway what happens? The car jsu wont go past 3500 rpm… Take it back. 3 more weeks. They five it back… No check enghine light on runs fine for a few days, then boom, misfire, check engine light back on.
At this point imdone with them doing more and more dammage to my car that i take it somwewhere else and pay more money. Im taking them to small claims court to pay for the additional work.
You get what you pay for is the lesson here i think.

STAY AWAY! They do terrible, shabby work and are customer service is non-​existent. My mechanic (who I also dropped) took my truck here to get the engine and transmission rebuilt. It was supposed to be a two week job about. Cut to 10 weeks later I finally had it! Boy thanks! They have more excuses than answers. I also think they used it to make runs before they did work. I ended up getting parking tickets in Glendale that they never took care of, even after they said they would. I only found out when I renewed my CA registration. And now, not even 10 months later my engine is shot! Took it to two friends places and both said engine needs to be rebuilt, and can’t believe it’s not even a year. AND, it never ever ever ran right after I got it back. Took it to my (not presently) mechanic and he could not ever get it right either. It would stall out, and just not run right at all. They are terrible, and I wouldn’t send my enemies to get their vehicle ruined by this hacks!

The quality of work performed by this business is low and they cheat you on parts replacement. They count on the fact that %99 of people have no clue about what it takes to rebuild an engine. They were unlucky in the sense that I happen to be in that %1 category whereby I actually verified their work after the rebuild by placing the engine on a stand and performing a detailed inspection. I discovered the following:
1– Did not install water pump gasket!
2– Did not install timing chain cover gasket!
3– Installed the thermostat upside-​down!
4– filled the radiator with plain water, not coolant!
5– Did not install exhaust manifold gaskets!
6– Did not reinstall water pump divider plate
7– Did not install water pump sleeves.
8– Lost/​misplaced heat shield.
9– Installed fuel filter in the wrong direction.
10– Did not install carburetor to manifold gasket.
11– Did not install clip required for securing throttle cable to the carburetor.
12– Installed the wrong AC, water pump, and alternator pulley. I had to buy the correct one from ebay as the one they installed was for a car without AC.
All of these are serious violations of the basics of their business which is to rebuild engines. The above omissions and/​or errors are inexcusable. Also, not putting back the correct parts that were on the car and replacing it with whatever is just outrageous. Think three-​times before trusting this establishment to rebuild the engine of your vehicle.

Very Friendly expertly answered all the questions that I had… John at A Star put the heads on the car and all is excellent nothing to complain about the altima is running perfectly and their price was very reasonable, I do Highly recommend them
